Hello! There’s been an influx of new hires at my retail job bc we are essential workers, and consequently, for the foreseeable month of April, I’m not working more than one day a week.

I am woefully underemployed but cannot apply for un/deremloyment bc of a technicality on my taxes. My genealogy commissions have also more or less come to an understandable standstill because people cannot afford to commission me during this pandemic bc they are also losing their income.

My goal this month is $700. I feel guilty for struggling when everyone is struggling but this is just the way it is. I would very much like to be commissioned but also understand why people are not able to at this time. My cashapp/Venmo are @lesbiandykely. Comment and I’ll DM my PayPal

April is also my birthday month, if anyone is feeling particularly generous. Please help and reblog, thank you 💖💖

Please reblog, I am literally only working one day a week!

hello!! i just wanted to make a quick post about how i turn 23 next week 🥺 april 18th! naturally, i don't have high expectations about celebrating with everything that's happening in the world right now. But honestly speaking birthdays have kind of difficult for me ever since i entered my 20s, so it would mean a lot to get encouraging messages and the like this year 😭 if you read this and keep this in mind, thank you !!! It really, really means a lot!

some people have asked me about presents and while that's extremely sweet, there's nothing i really need right now except good energy and money since there are things i was working towards before i got laid off 😭 so here is my paypal if you'd like to send me something! I'm also really looking forward to hearing from yall on my bday 🥺

Trump will deliver killing blow to the USPS

The USPS is about to declare bankruptcy. It’s at the center of the longstanding plans for disaster recover and has been since the Cold War. It’s the only institution that could (for example) deliver covid meds to every home in America in one day.

But Congress has decided not to bail out the postal service, despite Art 1, Sec 8 of the US Constitution: “To establish Post Offices and post Roads.”

Maybe it’s because without a USPS we couldn’t have a postal vote in 2020?

The proximate cause of the post office’s bankruptcy is the pandemic, but that is merely the finishing blow. The USPS was murdered in 2006, when Congress passed the Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act.

The Act gave the USPS a mere 10 years to “prefund its future health care benefit payments to retirees for the next 75 years.” That is, to set aside cash to pay medical bills for future employees who hadn’t been born yet.

The Act gave the USPS a mere 10 years to “prefund its future health care benefit payments to retirees for the next 75 years.” That is, to set aside cash to pay medical bills for future employees who hadn’t been born yet.

The USPS’s murder is straight out of the neoliberal playbook: “1 Defund, 2 claim crisis, 3 call for privatizatization, 4 profit!”

As Lambert Strether points out, it was a bipartisan act of murder, cosponored by the “centrist” Democrat Henry Waxman.

Killing the USPS looms large in the Trump admin’s (nonmetaphorical, actual) privatization playbook, “Delivering Government Solutions in the 21st Century Reform Plan and Reorganization Recommendations”:

The proposals are for USPS to become a Wework clone or franchisee, but not to become a publicly owned bank - a common line of business for other nations’ postal services, natural based on the amounts of cash they handle.

The USPS is the nation’s second largest employer of veterans, with 630,000 employees. Trump is about to allow it to collapse so that UPS, Fedex and other private firms can skim off the most profitable parts of its business and leave rural Americans totally isolated.

The loss of the USPS would mean the loss of the last truly universal federal program in America and would unduly hammer the people whom Trump claims to love – veterans and rural voters.

I read a diary at Daily Kos which suggested that if half the households in America bought 2 sheets of Forever Stamps, for about 16 bucks, it would provide enough funding to keep the USPS alive. How fucked up is this? We’re trying to save the fucking Postal Service, which is in the fucking CONSTITUTION, from Republican sabatoge. There is no such thing as a moderate, or patriotic, Republican. They are anti-American Fascists.

don’t miss the fact that this is coinciding exactly with the push to increase mail-in voting, which would seriously jeopardize Trump’s reelection. you can’t have mail-in ballots if there’s no postal service, right?

Americans, please text USPS to 50409 and ResistBot will send a message to your senators and congressperson telling them to save the Post Office.

i did it yesterday and it couldn’t have been easier. my senators are both pieces of shit, but that doesn’t mean i’m not going to give them an earful about this.

Texting resistbot was SUPER easy, and I got an email reply from my senator’s office today confirming my email went through. Please do at least that!

If you’re from the US! Go out and buy stamps this week. Brave the line, wear your mask, but buy stamps!

The USPS is facing privatization by the GOP greed-mongering idiots, but let me tell you why this is bad

First of all, the postal service is in the constitution. You know, that thing the GOP pretends to care about when it suits them. It’s designed to make communication available for even the poor. It’s the only service that reaches many rural addresses, ALL addresses, in fact, and other shipping services will leave packages to them because of this. It’s the only service that is as cheap. Fifty cents to send a letter across country. The next cheapest service is $13. They are not subsidized or funded by the government, but make money off mailers and advertising and junk mail...and stamps.

This vital service employs over 600,000 people, services every place, rural or poor. If it is privatized, it will be the end of accessible shipping for the lowest class. Make no mistake, it’s not just greed, this is an attempt to take one more thing from the 99%

Buy stamps! If we all do, we can save them!

Reblog and spread the word!

Stamps can also be purchased via phone, online, or even by fax.

Right now they have T. Rex stamps!!! Buy a sheet because they are really cool, or pick from a number of other neat options. Don't send much mail? No problem! Turn those stamps into fun little magnets, stick them on your laptop or favorite notebook, or start a collection like your great uncle had!
