Big Block of Voyager Fic Recs

I got bored today and made a big list of all of the Voyager fics I’ve really loved. Many of them are years old. Many of them are by the same author or same group of authors. Most of them are dark, most of them have a good deal of sex, and pretty much all of them are Janeway-centric, because that’s how I roll.

I just started reading Voyager fic, so this is really helpful and 100% up my alley! Thanks for helping me catch up on years of incredible-ness. <3

I feel like we seriously need to talk about these gifs: The oh so gentle way he reaches out and caresses her arm, as much emotional as physical steadying.  The way they turn their faces towards each other in perfect unison. The way they react to jostling somehow by going towards each other (rather than in the same direction)… like their instinct is to come together for support no matter the circumstances.

Also they both just look really pretty here with their perfect hands and her romantically starting to fall out of its confines hair and their worried little faces and perfect profiles and sad eyebrow raises and glorious cheekbones and his oh so kissable lips.

This so perfect.

You can see that even with the whole crew around them they seek comfort and assurance in each other.

She doesn’t just take his arm - he lays his hand over hers. This is such an intimate gesture. (Also why did that woman have to walk in front of them right then?)

Now look at that. That’s not just relief, that’s “I need to touch you all over to make sure you’re really not dead” relief.

That’s “Let me truly look at you again before I leave you for two seconds in case you die on me again

And finally, this is “I’ve seen half of my crew down, but Oh God, not him, please not him” angst.

These two are just so close and intimate with each other.

You called?

I feel like this needs to make the rounds again.

It’s more than worthy, don’t you think?

More than worthy. This post can constantly be on my dash for all I care!

Wow. Such a connection! Live on my dash, kthx. Also that one GIF, #3…can we title it “The Caress”?

There is so much more here than just “captain and first officer.” In any of the gifs, really. Can you imagine Kira going into Sisko’s office with a peace rose, or Riker sobbing over Picard’s body? No. Because the Janeway/Chakotay dynamic is more than that and should have been acknowledged through the end of the series. *sigh* but I guess that’s why we have fanfic

This post is such pure, essential J/C.

They care so deeply for each other and their relationship is just so very special.

She touches him all the time:

But he’s also so concerned with her well being.

And then can I just ask how so far we missed this:

Cause they just hold hands. On the bridge. In front of everyone. Completely unapologetic.

Their love and support of each other is just so damn beautiful.

I must reblog this every time it comes across my dash. It’s in my contract

if it weren’t for this scene I would’ve agreed with the whole ‘captain’s casual fling’ theme they were going about. why tailor-fit him to the only person abord whome Kathryn have personal history and can’t be together with?

nothing tears the fragile veil between fiction and reality like the phrase “star trek: voyager got obama elected”

ok so @thefordokami asked me to explain this and explain i will because it’s one of my favorite weird star trek stories

so in the early 90s jeri ryan was married to a guy named jack ryan, who worked for goldman sachs and had some political aspirations in chicago. when jeri got the part of seven, she commuted to la from chicago and it was a big strain on their relationship and the marriage kind of fell apart. they got a divorce. later on, jack ryan was running for one of the us senate seats for illinois and the press (who were looking for a way to make a senatorial race interesting and decided that diving into ryan’s former marriage to a celebrity would do the trick) unsealed the divorce case, revealing that he had done some, for lack of a better word, turdish things during their marriage, he dropped out of the race, and his replacement republican was handily defeated by young barack obama. so without voyager, it’s possible that obama’s political career, which eventually led to the presidency, would have been very different, and basically the world is a weird place and everything is connected and if i ever got kicked back in time i’d just stand in one place sweating because literally everything leads to something else that you’d never expect and the timeline is unimaginably intricate and delicate

Hidden Figures (2016) dir. Theodore Melfi

this echoes what white women do today.

This was maybe my favorite thing about Hidden Figures. It did not let white women off the hook for one second.  Kirsten Dunst’s character was passive at best and openly racist at worst. There was another white woman who, while never openly racist, was deeply passive until the last moment.  The movie was, in many ways, an indictment of white feminism and I hope the white women who have seen it were paying attention.

THIS IS ACTUALLY FACTUAL AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED MORE

“Knowing that they were losing “valuable product” due to their slaves’ propensity to swim, slave owners began taking drastic steps to protect their property. One of these steps was to instill a fear of the water by dunking disobedient slaves in water until they nearly drowned and by creating fear through stories of creatures living in the water. Thus it didn’t take long to excise or destroy the West African swimming tradition from African- American culture. The Jim Crow laws that were enacted after The Civil War prohibited blacks from the popular seaside resorts in places like Atlantic City, N.J. and Revere Beach, Mass. And by the 20th Century, as the swimming pool began to gain in popularity in the United States, the color line prohibited blacks from enjoying this pleasant recreational skill.

In addition, self-segregation also played a role in limiting those of African ancestry from getting in the water. I remember my Aunt saying to stay away from the pool because, “black folk don’t swim.””

Such a long and consistent history of anti-Blackness and swimming. Long before police openly assaulted little black girls in McKinney, GoodWhitePeople™ were enforcing White Supremacy and segregating swimming pools.

Next time you hear someone ask questions like, “Why don’t black people swim?” Or “Why are so many black people afraid of dogs?” And, “Why are there do so many black people live in poverty?”…..let ‘em know that those aren’t coincidences. These things didn’t just happen naturally, all on their own. There’s a reason for it, and you don’t have to be an historian to know they’re all interconnected through slavery, endemic racism and persistently racist cultural norms.
