You knew as soon as you’d been surrounded with cameras while you were dancing that things were gonna go bad. But when you saw the look on Letitia’s face as she slid her way through the parted crowd, shades concealing her eyes, you were done. Quavo was the nigga you'd found yourself in trouble over. You knew him from back when you'd first got on, back in 2013. He'd always been one of your industry friends, so when you'd spotted him tonight, it wasn't a question for you if you'd party with him. He was sweet to Eva and Hays, as well as your other friends, and y'all were having a ball turning up. Until Sage the Gemini came on. Rednose was your demise.
Eva had been laughing her ass off for the better half of fifteen minutes, and you couldn’t stop your eyes from rolling. “It ain’t that funny.” You grunt and she snorts. “Tish is about to get all up in your ass.” Eva placed a hand over her lips after saying the curse word and you huff. “I told you it was a bad idea.” Hayley adds as you wave them both off. “You’re not being helpful.” You admit and Hayley shrugs. “I wasn’t trying to be, babes.” She denies. “You better get to her before she gets to you.” Is all the advice Eva gives before she and Hayley step back, getting lost in the pumping beats and screaming of other club attendees. You drag your feet, hands moving to tug at the bottom of your dress as you walk towards your girlfriend of six months.
You'd met her back in April of 2022, by August you guys were dating, and now here you were, about to get your ass handed to you all because you got a little too tipsy and a little too excited. You catch her, hands flying up just as she opens her mouth to lecture you. She also wore her newest set of grills, you'd ordered them for her as a Valentine's gift and you had yet to see her in them, too be truthful, it was throwing you off, because she looked so good.
"That's not you telling me what I was gonna say." she's being teasing, but you see the disgruntlement, all on her face. She was hurting bad off of the media attention this complete misunderstanding was getting. The shade room couldn't wait to try and unpack the cryptic stories you and Quavo alike had both posted. It started with Rednose, he'd tried to push up on you while you were dancing with Eva and you'd promptly caused a ruckus with the way you'd handled him. Of course all the media cared about was the grainy video of you "shaking ass" on him, it was all they wanted to focus on. That and Quavo's claims you were switching up all of a sudden.
"Quavo?" she says his name with knit eyebrows and she looks visibly unimpressed. "Stop it." you plead, and you reach for her hand, crowds be damned. "He pushed up on me, ask Evs, it was hardly anything, I pushed him off of me so fast, and that's what started all this." Letitia can't be too mad, she thinks of the last few months, the trolling, the events, the media attention, the hateful fans, the death threats, the toll it's probably taking on you. She thinks of that night with Kehlani, the way you'd looked so hurt when you'd seen it plastered all over your Instagram and Tiktok feed. She was certain that it felt the way that she felt in that moment. She felt horrible.
Seeing someone else, a guy, especially pressed up against you. All for the same man to run to his Instagram and try and trash you because of a bruised ego.
"You have to believe I'd never do anything to hurt you like this, Tish." you genuinely feel shitty over all this, and it really wasn't your fault. Most people took a look at your face, took a look at your body and felt that because of the way you outwardly looked it gave them access to things that weren't there's. Like your body was no longer yours and instead was something for them to drool and ogle over. That was why you cared so much for Tish, because she was different. Because she pushed you to have hope for better, because she showed you that there was better than what you'd had before. "I know." she says after a moment and she's nodding her head, shoulders slumping as she breathes out. "But I think I have a solution to this." she says and your shocked.
"Yes, it might not be full proof. At the end of the day people are attracted to pretty things." she wraps her hand around your own, tugging you towards her as you light up with a smile. "But, people seem to approach you so callously because they don't think that you're off the market." your eyes scan over your girlfriend's face as you try and take in what exactly she wants you to understand. "We're gonna be on tour together for one month, but you're gonna be gone for almost five." she reminds you. "I don't wanna have to worry about losers trying you when I'm not there to get to you, understand?" she says and you nod along, showing you're listening. "We'll go public."
It's a phrase you've replayed in your head since the day you realized you were falling in love with Letitia Michelle Wright. It was a month in, you'd fallen asleep at her place and woke up to her sitting against the headboard reading her Bible.
