And Your Enemies Closer status update

Somehow still grinding through the fic that's also taken over my life. I'm about halfway done with it at a current word count of 17.5k, and it's looking like it'll be 5 (maaaaybe 6) chapters. I've jumped around in writing certain sections, but I did knock out about 1k of the next chapter today so *gestures vaguely* you know what's under here:

every now and then my soft spot for bloom and stella reignites, and each time i'm reminded how beautifully the series avoids tropes and favors subtlety in terms of character dynamics and relationships. with bloom and stella, their friendship never started as a trope. their friendship was never motivated by the need to fabricate a dramatic storyline. instead, their friendship started as an innocent and curious fascination that blossomed into something resembling a twin flame dynamic. their friendship stands out because of who they are, how they meet and how they need (and keep needing) each other in their respective stories. it has always been about the characters rather than tropes or caricatures or means of advancing the plot.

Historians having huge debates on whether Arcadia was the first fairy or the first witch. Only the few want to consider that Arcadia may transcend fairy/witch classification.

Faragonda and Griffin regularly argue about this and they both are too stubborn to admit that the only way to know would be to ask Arcadia directly.

Tecna gets to ask Arcadia about this and they just answer that they are the first magic user and that's it.
