Hauchefaunt is the ONLY NPC that is worth their salt (appreciation post) (spoilers)
Ok, look: all the way through 2.0, the twilight zone and Heavensward the WOL has a lot of allies right?
WRONG!
The WOL has a shit ton of people who see them as a tool, a weapon to be used to further their gains, a person who will be mourned if they die, but who ULTIMATELY will be replaced with the next crystal bearing soul that is spawned on the planet.
The scions: every single one of them are about using the WOL to achieve their ends and put down the primal threat. "Sorry to do it ol chum, but you're up again." yea I bet it breaks your damn heart. Even Urianger, whom I love and adore, uses the WOL to further his studies.
ALL of the City-States: every last one of them is using the WOL. Hell, if they could use the WOL to solve their refugee crisis they would! (oh wait... We DID solve it.)
Ishguard: Mother loving ishguard is nothing BUT backstabbing, self serving holier than though lieing, cheating bastards. Hell! It literally part of their founding principles!
And then.... And then there is Hauchefaunt. (you get this more in the Japanese story than the English, but it's there)
Hauchefaunt LOVES the WOL. At first it's Eros. A little bit of hero worship, a little bit of physical appreciation, a giant heaping of admiration, but it's there.
When things get tough and times move on, the love changes. Philia and Ludis are there. When you need someone who understands, when the WOL needs a shoulder, Hauchefaunt is there. He knows just when to be quiet and when to make comments that are just shy of rediculous to make the WOL smirk. "A smile better suits a hero" is powerful for many reasons, not the least of which is, as long as you can smile, you can make it through another day.
When things get their heaviest, when things get damn bleak, when we're facing foundation shattering truths, by that time Hauchefaunt is in full Philia. The love is unquestioning and he will stand beside the WOL as long as he can.
And he did. He absolutely did. He never demanded. He never used. He only asked "what more can I do to ease your way".
The old adage is true: you don't know what you've got until it's gone. But I know with his lose, the demands got more grating. The abuses of my so called allies became more obvious. The incompetence of allegedly strong leaders became harder to bear.
His sacrifice is what this WOL fights for. I would hate to disappoint him.

- Ryne joined the Twins with their Baby Crushes when you were super supportive of her even when Thancred was being kinda a dick and not managing fatherhood right and the Twins try to like coach her on that
- One of the younger Viera siblings but I don’t know exactly which one likes you and which one has to put up with her bullshit

I don’t even remember where I was going with this except that the Dangai would toss them into an alternate universe and it’s supposed to end up Shinji/Ichigo/Kisuke, but other than that, it was as much a surprise to me as anybody else when I found this tiny random snippet in my docs lmao.
