I've considered it extensively and how the fuck do you decide that Soceity or the earth or the west or whatever the fuck it's a Metaphor for is:

A) a submarine which famously do not carry many people

And

B) is fucking Yellow, why the fuck would it be yellow, the paint would be taken off by the ocean for God's sake

Maybe it’s literal. Like.. maybe the beatles believed the earth was an actual yellow submarine. Like an advanced form of believing the earth isn’t round.

I thought about that too and the sky is Blue not Yellow, so why is the submarine yellow?

how to find literally any post on a blog in seconds (on desktop)

there are so many posts about ~tumblr is so broken, you can’t find any post on your own blog, it’s impossible, bluhrblub~

I am here to tell you otherwise! it is in fact INCREDIBLY easy to find a post on a blog if you’re on desktop/browser and you know what you’re doing:

the tag system on desktop tumblr is GENUINELY amazing for searching within a specific blog! 

caveat: this assumes a person HAS a desktop theme (or “custom theme”) enabled. a “custom theme” is url.tumblr.com, as opposed to tumblr.com/url. I’ve heard you have to opt-into the former now, when it used to be the default, so not everyone HAS a custom theme where you can use all those neat url tricks. 

if the person doesn’t have a “custom theme” enabled, you’re beholden to the search bar. still, I’ve found the search bar on tumblr.com/url is WAY more reliable than search on mobile. for starters, it tends to bring posts up in a sensible order, instead of dredging up random posts from 2013 before anything else

if you’re on mobile, I’m sorry. godspeed and good luck finding anything. (my one tip is that if you’re able to click ON a tag rather than go through the search bar, you’ll have better luck. if your mutual has recently reblogged a post tagged #croissant, you can click #croissant and it’ll bring up everything tagged #croissant just like /tagged/croissant. but if there’s no readily available tag to click on, you have to rely on the mobile search bar and its weird bizarre whims) 

url.tumblr.com/tagged/croissant/chrono will bring up EVERY post on the blog tagged with the exact phrase #croissant, but it will show them in reverse order with the oldest first

I'm getting so sick of major female characters in historical media being incredibly feisty, outspoken and public defenders of women's rights with little to no realistic repercussions. Yes it feels like pandering, yes it's unrealistic and takes me out of the story, yes the dialogue almost always rings false - but beyond all that I think it does such a disservice to the women who lived during those periods. I'm not embarrassed of the women in history who didn't use every chance they had to Stick It To The Man. I'm not ashamed of women who were resigned to or enjoyed their lot in life. They weren't letting the side down by not having and representing modern gender ideals. It says a lot about how you view average ordinary women if the idea of one of your main characters behaving like one makes them seem lame and uninteresting to you.

The Indian government’s definition of “forest” still encompasses plantations of a single tree species, orchards and even bamboo, which actually belongs to the grass family. This means that biennial forest surveys cannot quantify how much natural forest has been restored, or convey the consequences of displacing native trees with competitive plantation species or identify if these exotic trees have invaded natural grasslands which have then been falsely recorded as restored forests. 90% of Denmark’s Jews survived the Holocaust, because starting at the top, Denmark’s government and prominent citizens and all the way down emphasized this.

Denmark had, in essence, inoculated itself against Nazi propaganda because its citizens believed that Jews were not “other people.” As Bo Lidegard writes in Countrymen:

Being a Jewish Dane or a Danish Jew might have made you a little different, but it didn’t make you other people.

Unlike Niemoller, they didn’t have to see atrocities visited on a series of Other People and only start caring when it happened to themselves. They understood it as happening to themselves from the start. Because their Jewish neighbors weren’t Other People.

Many of them didn’t even see it as “resistance work” on behalf of the Jews because it was simply fighting back against an attack on their own community.

Communities in which there are no Other People save lives.

growing up, my dad made a point to distinguish between "the rich" and "the wealthy" and a mildly confusing thing to me is that "eat the rich" has always really meant "eat the wealthy."

rich people have lots of money. they have a mcmansion, they send their kids to college without debt, they vacation somewhere overseas every year, but they work. these are your brain surgeons. lawyers who own their own practice and are absolutely rolling in it, A-list actors and other celebrity entertainers. but because they work and are reliant on income, unforeseen things can absolutely ruin their lives. in america, particularly, a sudden need for expensive healthcare can be life-changing. rich people are millionaires on the high end, and making six figs on the low end.

wealthy people have lots of money because they own things. they do not work. they can get away with absolutely anything under the sun. wealthy people are billionaires.

if you can't distinguish between these two groups, you will continue to fall for going after the rich.
