Between these two... Sorry Chris, Nick is just more fun, even if he can't punch a boulder into submission.

Beware the Ides of March [x]
OF ALL DAYS THIS WAS THE BEST DAY TO DO THIS
SCREAMING.
15th march on other sites is just like 'its mid march I guess??' but on Tumblr it's all 'hey remember when we all teamed up to murder a politician? We should do that again' as if we were all personally there to kill Caesar
Hey if a bunch of immortals feel safe coming out on here, I’m not going to judge them.

do people really. why do people tag their hate as they thing they hate. do they want to invite discourse onto their home or. what's the logic there
Which Bioshock character do y'all think would make the best muppet?
Frank Fontaine.
it would make all the events leading up to BioShock 10x funnier to imagine the only muppet in Rapture to either a) somehow have the perfect disguise that looks exactly like a human man for his Atlas persona or b) just puts on a toupee and rips off his 'stache and nobody suspects a thing
Also Andrew Ryan having a serious beef with a muppet
“There’s no plausible evidence that Republican voters are opposed to acts of sedition but will begrudgingly tolerate them if that is the only option available. Trump’s Republican competitors had been parroting nearly all of his flamboyantly ridiculous policies, only to be shot down by those very voters. You can offer up a Nikki Haley, but it will go nowhere. You can lob a Ron DeSantis onstage, full of hydraulic fluid and have him mimic the same Trump mannerisms and grievances and demands for violence—not just persecution but bullet-to-the-head violence against immigrants—and they won’t bite. They like Trump. They want Trump, and when presented with candidates who are not facing 91 criminal charges, not found to have committed sexual assault, not proven to be a lifelong tax and bank cheat, and not the ratbastard personification of malice, they will not bite. This is a movement premised on ending the government itself if that’s what it takes to assuage paranoia about globalist cabals and plotting immigrant hoards.”

Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about what’s possible for characters vs. what the audience sees. (This might feel really obvious or redundant to talk about, but I just need to get the words out of my system)
In Steven Universe, when a character can’t do something, it’s a bit of a big deal. They struggle with it, they fixate on it, entire episodes may be dedicated to this thing they’re unable to do. When a character can do something, but doesn’t, it’s never focused on or called out. But when it does finally happen, it underscores a huge moment for that character.
As early as episode 10, it’s confirmed that Amethyst is able to bubble Gems. The action itself is not a big deal for her. Maybe she’s done it lots of times offscreen, where the audience hasn’t seen it. But since it’s our first time seeing her do this, it underscores her growth in this character arc, as she sends her tormentor and kindred spirit away.
On the other end of things, Garnet’s refusal to ask questions in the present ends up being a highlight for her backstory–she’s only shown asking questions in the far, far past, to highlight her very first moments of being in comparison to how firm and completely certain she is of herself now.
One can assume that Greg has always had some manner of social life outside of Steven and the Gems, but it has never once been mentioned who his friends are or what he does when he’s not working or hanging out with Steven. To wait until after he’s reconciled with Pearl to mention any sort of social action underscores how much he was letting the past get in the way of his friendships before this point. Considering this same episode is about Pearl doing the same for her social life highlights that further.
No one ever calls out these actions, or lackthereof, within the show. Things that aren’t happening lay in wait, to emphasize important moments in a character’s development.
All this is to say…
boy howdy they must be saving up Pearl shapeshifting for an absolute doozy.
Now THIS is a post that aged well

You can’t win as a woman in fiction. Be too positive, you become a Mary Sue, have flaws and those flaws are why almost nobody likes you. Be moderate, you have wet-cabbage personality, be exuberant, you are an unrealistic example. Have strong morals, and you’re badly developed, be morally corrupt and you’re hated with such vigour fans will send hate mail to the actress who plays the character. Be kind and soft and in love, you’re a representation of sexism, be cruel, harsh and cold and you’re just a bitch. Be a complex, realistic, ambiguous character, and either your flaws or your positive traits will be ignored or blown out of proportion and into oblivion. There is no winning for female characters.

I know this is nothing in the grand scheme of her awfulness, but it's amazing how every other complaint JKR has about the way she's treated by the public is just- what comes with being famous. And yet she treats this like a unique witch hunt she has to go through for being a visionary. It could easily be solved by not having as much of a public persona, especially on social media, but she doesn't want that, she wants to be treated like a public intellectual that the MassesTM have to listen to without any of the drawbacks of fame or (godforbid) public debate (like people disagreeing with you). She basically wants to walk up to a mic and speak to a gagged audience and the place she attempts to do this is... twitter, because her actual cultural importance isn't enough to get her published in The Guardian. Or any of the other avenues where she could more easily enjoy her tiny little transphobic echo chamber without having to deal with direct backlash. She could stop this anytime by simply accepting that her cultural and financial capital can't buy her a captive audience, but she keeps going. She doesn't even need any more money! Insane rich person behavior of someone unused to be told no. Completely out of touch with how the world works and her actual importance in it.
