Christmas Surpises.
((Warnings: Food, food mention, nausea mention, throwing up, pregnancy))
Thankfully Merlin remained asleep until after Shy left. Eva went to gently wake him and started plating up breakfast as he got out of bed. She was sipping at a mug of ginger tea when he greeted her at the table with a kiss to her forehead.
"This all looks great babydoll"
Eva hummed in appreciation through her mouthful of blueberry muffin and they ate in relative silence.
Once Merlin was finished (well at least as much as his nerves had allowed him to eat) he disappeared back off to the bedroom for a moment. Eva finished her ginger tea, hoping that it would keep her stomach settled for a little while longer.
She tapped at the small gift box on the table, starting slightly when Merlin cleared his throat behind her. She turned in her chair to find him on one knee, still in his boxers.
"Eva, baby doll, I have adored every minute I have spent with you so far. Knowing how much you trust me after all you have been through just makes me feel all the more loved and I know I want to spend as much time as I can in our future continuing to help and support you."
He opened the ring box that had been hidden in his hands to reveal a simple, small stoned ring.
"Eva, will you marry me? Please?"
She took everything in as he spoke, completely touched by every word, even if she was fighting back nausea.
It overtook her just as she was about to answer him. She clapped a hand over her mouth and bolted past him to the bathroom, emptying everything she just ate into the toilet.
Merlin soon joined her on the floor, rubbing her back and holding her hair out of her face. "It wasn't that bad was it?" He chuckled attempting to lighten the mood.
Eva shook her head, giving a watery chuckle, wiping her mouth and leaning into his arms.
"Was it something you ate babydoll? As far as I could tell you ate the same thing I did"
Satisfied the nausea had passed she felt safe to speak. "No." She carefully got to her feet. "Give me a moment to clean up ok?"
Merlin nodded left the bathroom, slightly worried. Once done Eva slipped passed him, grabbing the gift box from the table and pressing it Into his hands. He looks at her curiously, lifting the lid to find a new gold tree bauble with neat black glittery cursive across it.
"For next Christmas." Eva explained quietly. Merlin looks down at her then back to the bauble, running his thumb over the words, not quite processing what it meant.
"Read the words properly Mer" Eva giggles softly, waiting for him to realise.
Merlin looked between the two again, eyes widening as the realisation dawned over him, nearly dropping the box. "R-really? Eva you mean it?" Eva beams and nods, giggling as he scooped her into a delighted hug.
He set her gently back on her feet, leaning in to kiss her, tasting toothpaste on her lips. He brushes his nose against hers when he pulled away. "So about my question?"
Eva nuzzled into his chest. "Is it even really a question? Of course I will marry you. I don't want this with anyone else."
