OK so has anyone else had intense nausea after getting an IUD fitted?

My rating of my experience getting an IUD is:

Pain levels:

  1. The speculum - a little painful at first, then painless after the doc relaxed it a little. She also used a little one on me. Thanks doc! 1.5/10 pain
  2. Clamping onto the cervix - painless. She used loads of numbing spray and I didn't feel a thing. 0/10
  3. Measuring the uterus - mercifully quick but my god. Like a little stab. Lasted less than a second but was like an intense period cramp. 3/10, mostly low based on quickness.
  4. Actual IUD insertion - everything up to this point had me thinking "this isn't so bad", but this was about as bad as I expected. It was extremely painful, lasted about 5 seconds (the actual fitting). Felt like the worst period cramp ever. Milder (but still bad) cramping persisted for like 10 seconds after. Giving this a 7/10.
  5. Aftermath - the pain is not that bad per se, but it's constant and meds are not touching it. It has started to get better after 10 hours. I would say this has been the worst part of the whole experience. 6/10.

Would definitely say that if I had been prepared for the aftermath pain I would feel better about it, but honestly it took me by surprise. The doctor and nurse were lovely, and my partner was there too holding my hand. It was very painful, ngl, but I did it. I would say I would reccomend it, but I'm very stressed about the fact that the aftermath pain has basically put me out of action and I need to prep for a conference on Sunday.

If you're having it done, I would say get the following day off if possible.
