With the solar eclipse coming up this month, here’s some things to keep in mind

Do Not: Buy a strange looking plant from an old Chinese man running an exotic flower shop

Do: Invade the fire nation while they are at their weakest

The heroes must solve the final obstacle - they must solve ancient, eldritch ruins left behind by the Elder Gods. The GM hands a picture of the ruins to the players. It’s a timed calculus test photocopied from a textbook.

Your illusionist can perform any illusion the player can perform in real life.

Your bard can perform any song the player can perform in real life.

Your assassin will be Skyping into the game session from prison for the next five to ten years.

Difference between Paladin and Cleric

Cleric: Warrior of a god powered by a god fighting for the values of their god

Paladin: Warrior of good powered by a god fighting for the values of good

“ A paladin swears to uphold justice and righteousness, to stand with the good things of the world against the encroaching darkness, and to hunt the forces of evil wherever they lurk. Different paladins focus on various aspects of the cause of righteousness, but all are bound by the oaths that grant them power to do their sacred work. Although many paladins are devoted to gods of good, a paladin’s power comes as much from a commitment to justice itself as it does from a god. “ -PHB 5e

As you can see, not every Paladin depends on a god

it’s why paladins are charisma based. they are powered by the belief itself, where clerics are powered by the thing they believe in.

True adulthood…

…is making a jam, Nutella, chocolate raisin and dairy buttons toastie, because nobody can tell you not to.

And playing games that become almost like a career in their own right

Your characters bargain with dark forces for occult knowledge, but after they sell their soul they just get told things like “did you know that in medieval times, people were actually fully aware the earth was round?”

An NPC who is a warrior. Switching to the other side will end the war quicker, cleaner. There’s been so much death, the fight is only pushed on by revenge for the recent battle.

—————————————

and there are various NPCs on either side who can give the PCs quests to end the war, each one a little different, like totally wiping the other army out, or killing the other ruler, or just signing a peace treaty

Villains are commonly portrayed as geniuses and mad scientists who use advanced science to take over the world. In reality, the most evil comes out of ignorance and the rejection of science.

That’s the difference between a villain and a bad person

A bad person throws a rock at a window.

A supervillain puts a force field-protected railgun on a low-orbiting satellite, aims it at something expensive, and makes their demands.

Beyond this, consider how these professions might vary depending on who the customers are - nobles, or lower class. Are they good at their job or just scraping by? Do they work with lots of other people or on their own? City or village?

For younger characters:

  • Apprentice to any of the above
  • Messenger/runner
  • Page/squire
  • Pickpocket
  • Shop assistant
  • Student
  • Looks after younger siblings

(Images all from Wikimedia Commons)

Also consider:

Candlemaker Ferryman Factor (looks after business for an employer in another city) Tiler Cutler Beekeeper Apothecary Interpreter Furrier Moneylender/Banker Winemaker Tinker (small trader who repairs stuff) Nightsoil collector Customs officer Also a bonus for animal related professions: Fowler (supplies game birds for eating) Warrener (catches rabbits on your land for you to eat) Ostler (looks after your horses) Falconer (looks after your falcons) Cocker (looks after your fighting cocks)

A game where everything is steampunk, but it uses traditional fantasy dnd rules and settings, the only difference is that all nouns have the prefix ‘steampunk’. Never explain these in more detail than ‘you know, this but steampunk’ while shrugging your shoulders.
