Summary: Fitz takes Jemma to a Christmas lights display, and under the guise of playing to her competitive side, sets everything up to ask her an important question.
Notes: Thanks to @huntxngbxrd for always being so damn supportive and for giving me the central ideal of this with the letters game. This also fullfils the “Light” prompt for @aosadvent2018.
Sneak-Peak:
They track along a random path, and Fitz gets a bit nervous when Jemma stops more time than he anticipated to criticize the biologically-incorrect features of the birds that decorate the tops of trees. Fitz takes advantage of the chance to place his jaw on her shoulder and whisper on her ear, “Hey, Jem. You know I love hearing you talk about the anatomy of birds.” She scoffs, and he grins, though she can not see his face. “But let’s try to enjoy this and not get too wrapped up on the science of it, yeah?”
She turns around inside his embrace, and Fitz can’t help leaning down to kiss her cold nose and then kiss her pout away. Her eyes are soft when they break apart, and his heart is beating so hard inside his chest, once again, that he almost spills the beans right there.
“But, Fitz, getting wrapped up in the science inaccuracies is half the fun!”

She shakes her head, but the words for an excuse don’t come to her lips, so she ends up just shrugging. Robbie frowns at that, and his hold on her wrist tightens a bit; he is now holding her hand hard enough to leave a bruise, and that is good. It means she won’t have to debate if she dreamt the whole thing tomorrow morning.

An update to the Rural Scotland AU series (vaguely inspired by Call the Midwife and maybe with a hint of All Creatures Great and Small)
This is the final chapter to the long-promised sequel to “Caledonia, you’re calling me” and “Five Senses.”

Preview:
It’s past five that evening and all the ingredients are in the pot, and her first attempt at bulked-up spaghetti sauce doesn’t smell half bad as Daisy stirs it over the burner. While she waits for the water for the pasta to boil, she listens to her neighbor hammering away at her piano through the living room wall. Not Christmas music—the woman never plays Christmas music—but something that sounds a little on the melancholy side. Daisy pictures her seated at the piano, her gorgeous dark curls hanging in her face as she plays…alone on Christmas Day.
Feeling brave, Daisy picks up her phone.
It’s Christmas…it couldn’t hurt to ask.
Are you home alone tonight too?
A good eight minutes creep by before the music stops, and Daisy sees her phone light up a moment later.
Yeah. Sorry, do you want me to lay off the piano?
The tone makes Daisy respond quickly.
No, just wanted to ask if you wanted to come over for dinner. I’ve got a lot of spaghetti (but fair warning, it’s my first time trying to cook it)…
She has to toss her phone aside to turn down the flame as the pot of pasta suddenly begins boiling over, hissing on the burner, and by the time everything is under control again, there are two messages waiting.
Thanks…I might take you up on that. I was just going to be eating leftovers tonight.
