Sympathy for the Devil

It was a cold and rainy October night, Sam could vaguely hear the crack of thunder and the patting of the rain outside of the Bunker. The young Winchester sat in his chilly, brick room, huddled up with a blanket and cup of coffee while he searched away on his laptop.

Ever since things had calmed down with the whole avoiding the apocalypse thing, and finally destroying the Darkness, there hadn’t been an abundance of cases for him and Dean. Things has been more quiet lately, they would go on the occasional hunt, usually nothing too serious. A vamp nest usually being the most complicated of their hunts, which seemed to pale in comparison to some of the things they had dealt with in the past. Sam sat on his bed, looking though the police data bases and news reports, trying to find any kind of lead. He glanced over to his clock on the nightstand. 11:30, Great Sam thought. It was getting late, Dean was already passed out, he had been drinking most of the night, which meant there was no waking him until morning.

Deciding he wasn’t sleeping anytime soon, Sam decided to put on some music quietly. He didn’t listen to music much, but lately had found it rather comforting in his newly found down time. It took a moment for Pandora to load, and Sam had already gone back to searching the internet. Sympathy for the Devil by the Rolling Stones began to slowly pour from the speakers. Ironic, Sam thought to himself, seeing as Lucifer and the hunter had finally set their differences aside, well as much as you could with the devil.

His eyes we’re scanning the computer screen, slowly getting lost in what he was reading. Suddenly, the room become increasingly colder, Sam looked up, surveying his bedroom, but to his relief finding nothing. He looked back to computer screen, dismissing the change in temperature. Sam continued reading for a moment until the the music began blairing from his laptop. “..Just call me Lucifer Cause I’m in need of some restraint.. ” the words seemed to scream at him, Sam quickly jumped out of bed to see a figure leaning against his doorframe with folded arms. The unknown intruder slowly walked into the light, revealing a familiar face.

“Lucifer..” Sam said in a rough, yet soft voice.

“In the flesh,” the figure spoke as he stepped into the light revealing himself to the youngest Winchester. It was easy for he devil himself to make his way into the dark, dimly lite bunker. But of course, he had to wait until the eldest brother was already passed out. Dean wouldn’t like having him there at all, so he waited until he was far passed out to make his way into Sam’s room.

Several weeks had passed since they had dealt with the darkness…aka auntie Amara, gosh…he was happy that was over finally. He hated the woman, even if it was dads sister. So, he had nothing better to do than pester poor Sam and the wards on the bunker didn’t exactly protect them from archangel magic, so…he snuck in.

“Mmm great choice,” he said looking at the laptop where the music was playing from and gave the younger male a small smile as he folded his arms across his chest and took a few more steps closer to the bed. “You don’t seem all that surprised to see me Sammy, were you expecting me?” He asked with a snarky smile as he surveyed the room. “Don’t worry, Dean is passed out on the couch, bottle of whiskey still in hand…I don’t think he will be coming up any time soon,” Lucifer stated walking to the edge of Sam’s bed now and plopping down on the corner of the bed.

“Gee Sam,” he said looking around the dimly lite bedroom. “You call this place your home but, this room seems hardly welcoming,” he said in reference to Sam’s lack of decorations in the bedroom.

The hunter had chills as the archangel spoke, he wasn’t sure if it was fear or maybe he could sense the overwhelming power of his grace. Sam had always been more perceptive to energys and spirits, some would say he was even kind of psychic.

He wasn’t sure if he was surprised or not. “Expect the unexpected” is almost a perfect motto to fit the hunting lifestyle, not much surprised him anymore. Sam was more curious as to why Lucifer was here. He knew they shared a bond, being his vessel and all, so it probably wasn’t hard for Lucifer to find him and get inside the Bunker. There weren’t many things that could reastrain the devil.

“Heh,” Sam gave a half laugh and looked down. “I haven’t had much time to decorate,” he said shortly, while folding his arms. He did kind of agree tho, his eyes skimming the almost empty walls. Art had always been something he was fond of. It would be nice to have something to look at besides empty brick walls, only decorated by the random maps and case information were haphazardly stuck up there.

Sam’s glinting hazel eyes wandered back to meet Lucifer’s, he hadn’t really noticed how blue they were until now. They we’re actually kind of pretty. No, Sam thought, stop getting distracted. “Let’s cut to the chase,” he said in a forced harsh tone, trying to seem more cold than he actually was. “Why are you here?”

Lucifer sat on the bed his arms crossed and his legs slightly dangling over the bed, he was a tall man but his feet still didn’t reach the floor of the tall bed. His eyes settled on Sam when he began to speak of not having time to decorate, his brow quirked but he didn’t say anything else on the matter. If the man didn’t want to decorate that was his own deal. Right…why was he there. He thought of the question when Sam asked him and truthfully he missed the company of the hunter, or anyone really. He didn’t really have any ‘friends’ or family…well he did have family but for all he knew they all hated him, or somethin like that. Lucifer cocked his head slightly his eyes scanning Sam over before speaking. “I can’t come say hi?” He asked giving the other man a small half smirk as he let his arms unfold from his chest and rest at his sides. “How long as it been? A few months or so?” He asked his brow raised a small confident smirk playing on his devilish lips. @mooosifer (just like this moose)

Sam scowled at Lucifer as he spoke. He still wasn’t sure what the devils motives were, it definitely didn’t seem likely that he just wanted to say hi, that had never been the case in the past.

“Ya I suppose it’s been a few months,” the hunter remarked dryly. Sam was somewhat bothered by the fact that Lucifer was sitting on his bed, he always hated people touching his things without permission.

The devil seemed more friendly and genuine than usual, which was even more perplexing. But Sam sensed no immediate threat from the archangel. He slowly backed up and sat down on the chair in the corner, Lucifer watching him intently as he did so. The hunter felt more at ease sitting down. “I’m having a hard time believing you just came to say hi.” Sam smirked. “I’ve never really considered us friends.” His tone became more sharp and he shot Lucifer a sarcastic smile.

@swiggitty-swucifer

Lucifer cocked his brow as Sam spoke and let his arms fall to his sides, his head tilted to the side as he watched the hunter. “Oh but I think we would be such good friends,” he teased and smirked slightly nestling himself on the hunters bed a bit more then looking back over at him. In all honesty the devil just wanted to have company and the youngest Winchester was the first person who came to mind. His brothers hated him and his father was no company, so, there he was.

“Well Sammy…maybe i just wanted some company?” He said leaning forward slightly and bringing his legs up so he was now sitting on the bed, his legs crossed. The devil watched Sam cross the room and sitting on the chair in the corner, was he purposely staying as far away from him?

Sam felt increasingly uncomfortable watching the devil get comfortable on his bed. He still wasn’t sure Lucifer just wanted company, giving their past, there wasn’t much trust on Sam’s side. But nothing bad had happened so far, maybe the hunter was letting his nerves get the best of him. He knew what it was like to be lonely, not having family. Sam was lucky enough to have his brother, he Lucifer didn’t have anyone. He probably hadnt for a very long time. Maybe he did just want company. The compassion Sam felt for every living thing sometimes frustrated him. But maybe the fallen angel needed it from someone. The tall man sunk back into the chair more as his muscles relaxed and his scowl faded. Sam’s eyes met Lucifer’s cold gaze. “Why do you want my company?” He questioned in a newly calm tone. @swiggitty-swucifer

Lucifer stared at the moose for a second when the question was asked, his brow quirked and he gave him a soft smirk. “Why not?” He asked quizzically. “Sam, like it or not we have had well…history together, you were supposed to be my one true vessel. Remember that?” He asked grabbing a near by book on Sam’s bedside table flipping through it and lazily looking at the pages.

“Plus, I figured you would need help on this case huh? It’s a hard one to crack but, I think I may be of some assistance,” he mused snapping the book shut and looking back up at the other man. He held the book up slightly and shook his head “I know you think it’s a nest of vamps but I can’t pick up there horrible stench, believe me,” he said with a roll of his eyes as he welcomed himself to look at the police reports that Sam was going through earlier. “Defiantly not a werewolf, tsk…this is a tough one huh Sammy?” He said smirking at the moose.

The Hunter’s frustration grew slightly watching Lucifer man handle his books. He was kind of particular about how they we’re kept and handled, something Dean always made fun of him for, but he couldn’t help it. Trying to let this go, he thought about what Lucifer had said. It was true, angel’s were more sensitive to things, especially archangels, and it may be helpful. As much as Sam didn’t want yo admit, Lucifer had been helpful the last time he decided to show up and follow the hunter around like a lost puppy. Sam ran his hands through his hair, as he often did when he was flustered. He sighed before speaking, “Okay. You were actually pretty helpful the last time.” Sam looked over to the archangel sitting on his bed, “It seems like a vampire attack, but the victims aren’t drained of blood. Dean and I thought it might have just been a sport kill, but apparently it’s not. Do you sense anything? I’m not really sure where to start looking.” The Hunter’s eyes met Lucifer’s with mild desperation. @swiggitty-swucifer

Lucifer flipped through the pages of the files, his brows furrowing slightly in confusion as he tried to figure out just exactly they were hunting. Yes, archangels were a lot more sensitive to energies, but this one was a tough one to crack. “Hmmm this is a tough one Sammy boy,” he said his eyes scanning the papers then he snapped the folder closed and smiled at Sam. “But I think I can help you there, it’s defiantly not a vampire, it’s one of those…oh what does your arrogant brother call them? Jefferson starships?” He asked making a slightly disgusted face. He shook his head and stood up, case file in hand as he walked over to where Sam was sitting and handed him the file.

“It’s quiet obvious Sammy, I don’t know how you didn’t catch it earlier on,” he said with a playful smirk. “And I thought you were supposed to be the brains of the Winchester operation,” he teased now pacing around the small dimly lite room. “Now…id put those nasty littler vermin’s to rest before they make more, because your not dealing with just one. There are several and more in the making Sammy,” he said looking at him again. “You kill the alpha, it will get rid of all of them, so….you may still need my help locating this so called alpha,” he chimed smiling at the moose man.

Sam listened and observed the archangel intently as he skimmed though the file. A Jefferson Starship? He thought to himself. The hunter was so sure they had destroyed all of them when they finally got rid of Eve, but it did fit the case. Sam took the case file as Lucifer handed it to him, he began skimming over it again. Maybe the angel was right. He and Dean had no other leads, this might be an idea to bring up to his brother.

Sam rolled his eyes hearing Lucifer’s comment about him being the brains. He knew he was usually the one who put the clues together, and he was kind of embarrassed that hadn’t thought of it. Sam ignored the thought, he needed to focus on the case, especially if they were dealing with multiple Jefferson Starships.

“Thanks,” he said quietly, still looking over the case information. He looked up at the angel pacing around the room, it seemed out of the usual for him. He dismissed the thought, going back to their case. “Well, It’s too late for us to go out looking for the Alpha tonight, Dean and I will go out again tomorrow. Do you have any ideas of where the Alpha might be? I was so sure we got rid of all of these things….” Sam trailed off, still fixated on Lucifer pacing around the room, “You know you can sit down if you want,” he added quickly, his soft hazel eyes glinting in the dim lighting.

Lucifer watched him intently as he skimmed through the files smirking slightly when he saw Sam roll his eyes at his comment. The devil chuckled and rolled his eyes back playfully. “That I don’t know Sammy boy, but, I know where you could start looking,” he added giving a small nod then glanced at him. His expression softened up again when he was…invited to sit down again. Well as if he needed permission for that, but that meant the younger Winchester was warming up to him again. That he was at least a bit thankful for, that’s the reason he came to see him right? Sam was probably the only human being that had sympathy for the devil.

“Aww you’re so sweet Sammy,” he teased but took the offer sitting at the edge of Sam’s bed again. Luci looked around the room for a moment before turning his attention to Sam, his cold blue eyes fixated on the hunter before he began to speak again. “You look tired Sammy, i mean…I don’t know much about being tired or getting sleepy but you look like you could use some. Especially if you have to go hunt ‘Jefferson starships’ tomorrow.”

“Where would that be?” Sam questioned Lucifer. Any lead on the alpha at this point would be helpful. They weren’t the easiest things to gank, especially a full nest of them. A small smile crept up on the hunter’s lips hearing Lucifer’s sarcastic comment. Sam studied the angel as he sat on his bed, his eyes were heavy and tired, but he didn’t want to go to bed yet. His shimmering hazel eyes met Lucifer’s, as he questioned Sam. “Yeah…” He replied, giving a half laugh. “I’m fine though, I can stay up a little bit longer.” Sam felt like Lucifer didn’t want him to go to bed yet, but he wasnt sure why. He nervously looked around the room, trying to avoid eye contact. The hunter didn’t know what to say, though, he felt like he should say something. He finally looked up, his gaze met Lucifer’s cold, cobalt eyes. Sam began to feel flushed, but he tried to play it off. “So… ” he started, his voice soft. “You wanted company… What do you want to talk about?” Sam questioned the angel shyly. @swiggitty-swucifer

Lucifer glanced over at Sam and raised a brow, he smirked slightly his arms folded across his chest. Sam was well, being nice to him. Now not a lot of people were this nice to ‘the devil’ but sam was not just a 'normal’ human. And this was why Lucifer liked the man, he was also humble. Such an interesting human indeed, maybe all of dad’s creations were not useless.

“Company hmmm yes,” he answered a little spaced out. His thoughts were elsewhere, he was a little thrown off by the kindness and sympathy he was being shown. “I’m not much of a conversationalist,” he admitted looking away from Sam again and around the room. His brow furrowed slightly as he thought of just what they could talk about.

“So it’s just you and your brother in this uh…huge place huh?” He asked once again looking at the moose.

"Uh, yeah," Sam said softly, feeling somewhat relieved that Lucifer had started the conversation so he didn't have to. He wasn't sure what to talk about in the slightest. "It is kind of weird though," he finally continued giving an soft laugh, his tone becoming more relaxed."We were so used to cramped motel rooms, and now it's hard to find each other sometimes the place is so big.", Sam said, a small smile growing on his face. He looked up to Lucifer as he finished speaking, locking eyes with the angel. The hunter's gaze lingered for a moment before looking away again. The uncertainty of how to steer the conversation crept up in Sam's mind. He was uncomfortable talking about himself at times, and felt that he should ask Lucifer something in return, but wasn't sure what. Silence crept over the room for a moment, the rain patting rhythmically in the background. "So..." Sam finally spoke up. "How's Adam doing?", he asked with a trace of remorse in his voice. @swiggitty-swucifer

It starts with “Dad’s on a hunting trip and he hasn’t been home in a few days”, and then, you become part of the adventures of two brothers, a fallen angel, a grumpy old man and a car, getting to know the people that become part of their lives, from The Roadhouse, a badass nerd, a phophet and to the wayward girls. And suddenly, you become the invisible passenger of the Impala, and you fall in love with the show, the characters and the cast. And even though the show breaks your heart, it brings you an incredible joy, because for a moment, this show and these characters make you forget about the terrible aspects of your life and it makes you go on even when you don’t feel like it. You find a place where you finally belong, a place where there are more people like you and for once, life doesn’t seem so scary anymore. And yeah, these characters don’t exist, and I will probably never meet the amazing cast of this show because I’m broke, or the people I met on the internet thanks to this show, but it’s still there. I’m part of this and we have built this. And the best of all is that I found my family. Happy Supernatural day.

THIS. Very well put.

Sam’s weary eyes glanced over to the clock in the dingy motel room. 12:47. Dean had been gone for over an hour on his food run, and Sam was beginning to worry. They had finished up a fairly easy werewolf case late that night, and checked into a hotel room before deciding to get something to eat before hitting the sack. Sam pulled his phone from his jacket pocket, and dialed Dean’s number. He put the phone to his ear, it rang several times before getting his brother’s familiar voicemail. The phone beeped as he hung up the call. Where was his brother?

The hunter’s eyes grew heavy, he needed to get some sleep soon, but the apprehension over his missing brother, among other things, was keeping him from sleeping. Lucifer hadn’t been letting him get more than 3 or 4 hours of sleep every night. The fallen angel was becoming increasingly more difficult to shut out of his mind. Sam’s eyes darted around the room, but there was no sign of Lucifer, which relieved him greatly. Sam sighed, glancing to the clock again. His mind wandered and raced, going over every possibility of what could be going on with Dean. He hoped that maybe he had met some girl and gone off with her, which wouldn’t be unusual for his brother to do. Though, Sam had the feeling that may not be the case. The hunter laid back on the bed, shutting his heavy eyes for just a moment, and before he knew it, Sam had slipped off to sleep.

His slumber was suddenly interrupted when someone jumped on the the bed. Sam’s eyes shot open, seeing Lucifer sitting at the end of the bed. “Good morning Sammy,” the angel said,”I see your brother isn’t back still.”

Sam looked over to the clock, it read 4:23. Alerted by the loss of time, he quickly sat up looking around the room for Dean, but he wasn’t there still. The hunter grabbed his phone from his pocket, still nothing from his brother. Sam sighed and looked over to the angel. “You don’t have any idea where he is, do you?” He questioned sternly.

Lucifer gave a shrug and gently shook his head. “Not a clue Sam. Maybe I should have woken you up earlier so you could have started looking for him,” He replied in a sarcastic tone. Sam rolled his eyes hearing this. He knew he needed to figure out what was going on with his brother, he had been gone far too long. Sam thought hard about what to do in the situation, he knew Lucifer wouldn’t be much help seeing as he didn’t care for Dean. Plus if they were apart, he could pester Sam. The angel tended to hang around more when Dean was gone.

Suddenly, Sam had an idea of someone who could help. He grabbed his phone, and began scrolling through his contacts. “Who are you calling Sammy?” Lucifer questioned, trying to peer over at his phone. “No....really? You’re calling him? The one demon I can’t stand? Who took my thrown from me?” He shook his head. “I thought we were friends Sammy.”

Sam ignored Lucifer’s comments, rolling his eyes once again. The phone rang a few times before a familiar raspy voice answered.  “Crowley? I need your help,” The hunter said assertively.
