Look, I agree that trying to sell folks on original fiction by citing fanfic tropes is asinine, but at least "oh, it's got enemies to lovers!" tells you something substantive about the plot and characters. I once had somebody try to convince me to read a work of original fiction by telling me that it has a romance with a height gap.

Hey gang, looks like Audible is pulling some shit at the moment (what else is new). Basically, they've opted everyone who uses the platform into a "hide all erotic content from the search function" agreement whether you wanted to have that type of content restricted or not.

It's not even just happening to content listed as erotica. It's anything the Amazon censors deem as "erotic," and given their propensity towards censoring LGBTQ+ content as inherently more sexual than het content, I can see this getting abused really quick.

I became aware of it when Laura posted this on her Instagram a short while ago and sure enough, when I logged in and checked my settings, I'd been opted into it.

As Laura points out in the above video, you can't opt out of it on the app; you have to log in to your account on a browser, navigate to Your Account, Settings, and then uncheck the little box:

Image ID: a screenshot from Audible showing the navigation page for an Audible account. On the bottom right of the navigation bar under Preferences, a box labeled "hide erotic content in searches" has been ticked and circled in red to highlight it.

I rarely use Audible unless I'm being sent something to review, so I never would have noticed this. But yeah. If you've been wondering why you can't find your favorite romance authors on Audible anymore, this could be why.

I started April off rereading/relistening to Work For It by Talia Hibbert for a subreddit book club. I also decided to reread Undone by the Ex-Con since Olu, one of the MMCs in WFI, is introduced in it. Several people in the book club discord felt like they were missing information on him since WFI refers to events from Undone. I will say that even though WFI is advertised as a standalone, there's definitely some pertinent info that would help Olu's characterization that doesn't quite carry over to Undone. I bought the Just for Him series, which included Undone, back in 2019 and it's interesting that Undone is the only one of the three stories in it that Talia hasn't rereleased.

Anyway, favorites this month were Firelight, Beg For It, and Moon of the Turning Leaves. I own Love with a Chance of Zombies, Breaking Him, Beg For It, Undone by the Ex-Con, and Work For It, which I listened to on Chirp. Everything else was from either Hoopla, Libby, or physical books from my public library.

Our hearts may be spoken for by those with sweet eyes, little smiles, and so very many needs, but that does not mean that which makes us us is gone. And I hope . . . part of me hopes anyway that in seeing me do this, Marjana knows more is possible. I would not want her to believe that because she was born a girl, she cannot dream.

I kicked off my birthday month by rereading Pacts and Predicaments after recommending it on a particular subreddit and it had been a minute since I'd revisited one of my favorite kinky couples. Several books I'd been waiting for came out in March, so it was a great reading month. Favorites this month were Black AF History, The Fractured Dark, James, The Other Side of Disappearing, and There's Always This Year. I own Pacts and Predicaments and Black AF History, which I listened to on Libby. I also listened to There's Always This Year on Libby because I love when Hanif narrates his own books. Everything else was from either Hoopla or Libby.

  • Pacts and Predicaments - Jo Henny Wolf
  • The One in My Heart - Sherry Thomas
  • The Night Eaters, Book 2: Her Little Reapers - Marjorie Liu and Sana Takeda* **

Love when my horny little recs for underhyped authors strike a chord 😈

Just look at this perfection from Tanked by Mia Hopkins:

Carefully, he untangles my panties and throws them on the floor. He runs his hands over the shafts of my boots. “I have been fantasizing about fucking you in these all day long.” He holds up my left leg high in the air. I stare as he closes his eyes and kisses the leather edge of my boot, then trails kisses up the inside of my thigh. His cock jerks. The tip brushes my bare skin. It’s wet. Hang on. A leather kink? Angel? Very interesting. He looks up at me. “I’m going to be between your legs for a long time,” he says, smiling that wicked smile. “So let’s make you more comfortable.”

Inevitably enjoyable...

Nora Roberts going off. :)

...this escalated into a particular poster telling me to “open my mind” to the idea as Roarke told Eve he wanted children in a previous book.*** Listen, sister, check your entitlement at the door. What absolute arrogance, telling me to open my mind to kids. Hello, these are FICTIONAL CHARACTERS, ones I created in a series I control. Plus wanting’s not having. I write what I write, and I have good reasons—explained far too often. Don’t like it, don’t read it. And don’t think you can tell me what to do, what to think, what to write. Yes, Gentle Reader, I said that. I am not here to be a slave to certain reader’s wants, needs, whims. Again, I write what I write, and these are MY characters, in my books. Not yours. They are yours to enjoy or not, but they belong to me, they come from me.

She then goes after people who're claiming her long-suffering social media manager is no good or too rude.

Here’s what I say to that. Bite me. I write the books. Laura handles the social media—in addition to other things. It’s a lot, for both of us. And both of us love our work and try to do a damn good job of it. You don’t like what we do and how we do it? Go somewhere else. Seriously, go away.

Go read the whole thing. It's a joy.
