“Nice landing.” The last thing Sanji had expected to find while cutting across an open field was a dragon. For a while, he had considered hiding away behind a belt of trees, letting the beast circle and land without giving himself away. But the more he stared, the more he realized it wasn’t a normal dragon. The cook couldn’t know for certain that it was a zoan or a Mink, but he thought it might be safe to assume they were the latter.

“You gonna accept it, or not?” The plate of hot food was shoved closer still despite Sanji’s nonchalant expression. He wanted the boy to eat, hence why he had whipped up the dish in the first place, but he wasn’t about to force feed someone if they couldn’t stomach food.

“It’s lovely up here, isn’t is?” The day was hot and bright with not a speck of cloud in the sky, but the ocean breeze that swept in through the open window in the crow’s nest provided them with much needed ( and much appreciated ) relief. “Get’s a little stifling sometimes, but that’s why I like cracking all the windows open. The view’s pretty great too.”

He mostly meant the glimmering ocean, and partially meant her.

The young woman was sobbing by the time the pirate finally yelled to let her through. The glares of those around her and the little feet of her arachnid friend against her shielding hands making her incredibly emotional. She didn’t understand why everyone was so afraid. Goliath had just wanted to say hi, she was very friendly. And yet she was treated so harshly. The shopkeeper had even tried to squish her. Hence why Anna’s arms remained firmly placed over the top of her. And Sanji’s words, though attempting to set her free, only upset her more as she scooped the tarantula into her hands and pressed her against her chest.
“She’s not a thing!” She yelled, a hiccup sounding from her immediately after as bright blue eyes filled with tears stared at him “Her name is Goliath and she’s my friend!”. And with that the young woman pushed past any remaining crowd members, pulling at the front of her midnight black shawl to hide the spider in her hand as she ran; not even caring as she dropped the little bag that had been swinging at her waist as she did so. She finally came to a stop a few alleys down, slumping down against a wall and quietly crying into her arms.
Her mother was right. People outside really were terrible.

For as long as he could remember, he had made only two promises he intended to keep throughout his life; to always cook and feed people with an open heart, and to never intentionally hurt a woman.

He had broken that second rule without meaning to, but he still felt immense guilt when she locked those water-logged eyes onto him. His heart seized, and he thought her stare alone would squeeze the air from his lungs. “No, wait —— I didn’t mean it like that!”

She brushed past in such a hurry that he didn’t have time to apologize. Grumbling and grunting to himself, Sanji scooped up the little bag she had dropped. His intense phobia of spiders wouldn’t keep him from finding her and returning it, but he would hope ( very secretly ) to himself that she wouldn’t have the creature when and if he found her.

It was with blind determination that he did find her hunched in an alley, weeping into her arms because of his cruelty. The guilt still lingered, but it was worse than before. In the time it had taken for him to find her, he had thought too deeply. He blamed himself, and he wouldn’t be surprised if she hated him. But because he had her bag, he knew he needed to approach.

Cautiously and still keeping distance between them, Sanji called out.

“Miss? I’m sorry about hurting your feelings earlier. I know it isn’t an excuse, but I’ve.  .  . I’ve always been afraid of bugs and spiders. They freak me out. But even if you still have it, I wanted to give you back your bag. You dropped it when you ran off.”

“Here——” Gently as he could, he brushed aside a portion of her hair. On a hot day like today, it helped to cool down in any way possible. Sadly, the only way he could think to help her was to place the side of an ice-cold water bottle against the side of her neck. “Not too cold, is it?”
