Who else grew up on the Slavic folk tale of the Baba Yaga?
In Germany we did. Most of the stories we were told when I was a child were quite dark and full of myths and magic. I was fascinated with these kind of stories and I always wanted to hear more. (Kath)
The Baba Yaga is an ogress who steals, cooks, and eats her victims, usually children, but she is also a guardian of the fountains of the water of life. She is a famous witch of the East who appears as a deformed or ferocious-looking old woman.
In Slavic culture, Baba Yaga lives in a hut standing on chicken legs. The Baba Yaga is also reffered to as the boogeyman. She's one of the most terrifying creatures Russian parents scare their children with. This referrence has also found it's way into the John Wick movies, describing John Wick as the Baba Yaga or the boogeyman.
