Caster Semenya is a cis woman who has intersex characteristics, so she has slightly elevated hormones. She’s a lesbian, a SOUTH AFRICAN lesbian which is a particularly marginalized set of people in the lgbtq+ community, married to a woman and has done nothing wrong but be an exceptional professional athlete.  So tell me why the fuck TERFs are calling her an ugly man who “probably has a little penis” (quoting more than a few of them) are CELEBRATING what is happening to her? Forcing her to take testosterone dampeners to even be allowed to compete?

I mean, I know why bc TERFs are often off the damn chain with antiblack racism and the obvious transphobia but lol, intense perisexism too?A whole goddamn cis lesbian is a great target, now? And TERFs cry about being called disgusting, right wing fascists? oh aight

An absolute outrage.

I deleted my original reblog because I forgot to add: The reason why you don’t see too many Trans Exclusionary Radical Feminists caring about a cis lesbian is because most of them genuinely don’t care about lesbians in any material way because they vast majority aren’t lesbians at all. Most modern TERFs are straight women and have their roots in other conservative movements like Evangelical and Catholic Tradwives. They’re not going to care because she’s next on the hitlist after all the trans women are gone lmaooo

Bllllloooooop!

This whole time terfs have been saying “it’s biology which makes you a women :) taking chemical hormones is mutilation :)”

And now there’s a cis woman with slightly raised hormones, but is still a woman, and has been AFAB, and raised a woman, and identifies as a woman, and the only reason anyone knows about her intersex characteristics is because her medical history was illegal leaked…and suddenly she’s not a woman. Which means that other intersex women, women with PCOS, women with hormone imbalances (which is commen af for menopausal women), also aren’t women.

Every so often a movement will trip up over the curtains and reveal the actual truth behind something. Terfs sprout a lot of bullshit about protecting “real” women, and preserving womanhood, and how womanhood is this holy thing. If you belief what they say, then you might be under the impression that they care about womanhood the most out of every other section of feminism.

But then the curtains come down and you see that womanhood is defined as being “like them”, and if you aren’t like them then you just aren’t a woman. You can be cis and excel in your field at an international level, but if you can’t conform to be like them then you’re not a woman, but rather something to be hated. It’s intense, intense misogyny, and why terfs will always walk hand-in-hand with conservatives. Because for all of their cheap supporting “real women” talk, the second they can find the same use of rhetoric to shit on the marginalised then they will.

fuck terfs.

alright which one of you fucks decided to dig up two or three year old ‘dirt’ (it was a true post about trans men sometimes trying to take up womens spaces) on mod H (someone i have not conversed with in years), apparently make a burner tumblr, and IM me (mod D, who did not found this blog and never wanted to be the only active mod and PUT THIS BLOG ON HIATUS AGES AGO) about it first thing in the morning

Yeah so if you’re not intersex your opinion on whether or not we’re inherently LGBT does not matter

Don’t mention in your pride month posts what /you/ think the consensus is because either way you’re wrong. “The general consensus intersex people have is-” stop. There is no consensus. LGBT intersex people are consistently discussing this and the weight behind this discussion.

The only consensus we have come to is that y'all only bring up intersexism with regards to the acronym and it’s obviously performative

Happy anniversary to this post

Happy Pride month y'all

“Intersex advocates are rejoicing at a paper released by three former US Surgeons General. The surgeon-generals called for an end to forced medical surgeries on young intersex people.

Dr Joycelyn Elders, Dr David Satcher and Dr Richard Carmona were the 15th to 17th Surgeons General respectively.

The three condemned genitoplasty and other procedures, which are often performed on infants with intersex traits.

Intersex advocates, human rights groups and even the World Health Organization recognize ‘corrective surgery’ can cause more harm than good.

The paper comes as a new study revealed people who did not have forced surgery grew up without predicted problems.

The French study found ‘so far no major concerns have been reported from patients and their families’ and ‘with appropriate medical care and psychological support, it is possible to defer genital surgery’.

mod D hiatus

hey i hate running this blog alone and I'm completely unable to do the things that y’all deserve from it so I'm taking it on hiatus for now guys! sometime I'll talk with mod C, the blog’s founder, (i’m still in contact with her she's just off tumblr) about whether I should bring in new mods, wait for her king arthur esque mythical return, or just let it die, but for now? bye everyone I really do love and care for you and I really wish I could do better but I'm completely not equipped to run this blog alone and I don't want to be keeping the askbox open for people to come to me with really important questions that I really can't answer on my own. I'd rather be off limits than be letting people down, because you guys seriously deserve good content and an attentive, responsive, communicative, knowledgeable mod and I can’t provide this.

(other mods if you’re reading this feel free to keep posting but i doubt you’re reading this i haven’t seen any of you do stuff on this blog in An Eternity)

Was wondering if you or any of your followers had an answer. I'm intersex, assigned female, and was put on estrogen while going through puberty. Now I'm 22 and want to transition to male. Will taking female hormones in the past affect taking male hormones now in any way?

I can’t back this up but I’d assume that past hormone therapy doesn’t affect HRT, since I’ve never heard anything to indicate otherwise. Followers?—mod D

Hi Mods, I'm Peggy Cadet. for the last few years I have been going to the Philadelphia Trans Health Conference. This year (on Saturday, 9 September, there will be a session for intersex transitioners to meet and compare notes. Could you use this blog to help publicize this? Peggy

I mean I can publish this ask—mod D

hey uh how come you use the old intersex flag? afaik its been replaces with the one created by the australian group cos like, the one similar to the trans flag has a lot of gross implications that intersex people are a strange mishmash of blue and pink and idk that's icky

it’s been like two years since we’ve talked about this i guess, but we did talk about it before, i promise

iirc one of the reasons is because we don’t agree with all of OII’s stances but I don’t really recall what their stances are

I know not everyone likes the stripes flag, I personally have been saying for a while that I think every intersex individual can use the one they prefer (and ideally that allies trying to make icons etc should make both options available? I talked abt this for a bit a while back but I don’t remember if it was here or on my blog) but I know stronger opinions have been voiced by this blog in the past. anyway i wouldn’t really say the stripes flag has been ‘replaced’ since a lot of people still use and prefer it

Because they associate it with the H slur. That’s a big reason a lot of intersex people loathe that flag.

Wait, the purple and yellow OII flag is associated with the H slur? Or do you mean the stripes one? I know there’s a h-slur flag someone made, but it’s different from the OII one and the pink/blue stripes one.—mod D

Tje OII flag colors were chosen because they weren’t blue or pink, but their own colors, but the original post unfortunately did describe them as “[h-slur] colours”. So, while it’s not directly connected to that word, it was used in the post once by people who’ve reclaimed it. There’s nothing inherent to it that’s tied with the word itself, but I could see how some people would personally want to move away from that.

Thanks for explaining!—mod D

If your ever looking for new mods ide love to be a part of this blog

So I went on your blog to check out the sort of stuff you’re posting and like I really wouldn’t be comfortable taking on a mod who supports stuff like this? https://lollipop-2014.tumblr.com/post/159914750802/what-about-intersex-people-women-with-pcos-where The OP (idk if you follow her, but you did reblog it from her directly) is a pretty obvious TWERF if you take a look at her blog, and even if you didn’t look at her blog at all, the post itself is pretty laden with. You know. That intense, intense cissexist attitude that tends to be the marker of transmisogynistic feminism.

I know TWERFs can do that thing where they list what sort of intersex people they do and don’t consider “female” and act like that’s validating and uplifting intersex women, and I guess it might be pretty convincing if you don’t know a lot about trans issues, but they’re misgendering people, assuming they can speak for every intersex person’s experiences, violently excluding and denying trans women, and like... look, either you intentionally agree with that sort of transphobic drivel or you really, really need to learn more about trans issues so that you can watch out for that stuff in the future. This blog never has and never will support transphobic attitudes. Tbh I don’t remember us ever having had a cis mod. (Not that I’d be opposed to a cis mod so long as they were intersex, but just saying.) If you’re not both prepared and able to support trans people 100%, this blog really isn’t the place for you, as a reader or a contributor.—mod D

Also I feel like in a lot of areas of running this blog we as a group were way too insular? Like my feelings have gotten a lot more loose as I’ve been here basically on my own, but I feel like say a year or two ago there were a lot of areas where things are really a matter of personal relationship to being intersex where all the mods just kind of loudly insisted that our opinions were the only ones that mattered, and none of us really questioned if this was alright. It doesn’t help that our most popular posts are like three years old now

man i feel like this used to be a really helpful blog and i’m not equipped to be running it alone but none of the mods except mod c ever really said “hey I’m getting off tumblr” at all and I was never really in a position where I felt like I exerted enough control over the blog to make big changes like going after new mods or whatever

I think sometime soon I’d better get mod C on emails/IMs and have a long private conversation about where things should go from here because for a really long time I was in denial about how I’ve become like, The Face Of This Blog and I’ve had to come to terms with it recently but I’m also definitely not comfortable making any big changes or decisions

dyadic and perisex are the same thing, right? if so, which is more appropriate to use? thank you

we’ve talked about it in more detail before (you could probably search perisex on our blog for like, two years worth of juicy discourse), but basically: yes, they both mean “non intersex” and the mods of this blog all feel that perisex is an inappropriate term to use and dyadic is preferable and the one that we use.—mod D

i have a trans friend who keeps making jokes that since he's on hormones it's like we're "both intersex now, but [he] just got there later than I did!" how do I make him realise how horrible he's making me feel by saying insensitive stuff like that? I mean it makes him so gleeful to be having these changes and I really don't want to hurt him you know?

tell him you’re really happy that he’s on hrt and enjoying his results but that intersex is a term meant for people with conditions they were born into and recognizes their shared experiences of having bodies that naturally fail to fit in to the sex binary. if you explain to him that he’s using the term wrong and hurting you, but that him not being intersex doesn’t mean his transition (& his body) isn’t cool and meaningful, he’ll probably respect your feelings and back off from those comments without your friendship taking a hit in the process.—mod D
