I feel like a lot of fans see Taylor as a toy to play with and not as a human being. Who are they to pick and choose who her songs are about, who is better fitted to be with her, who she was in love with... It's so annoying!!!

Yup…and Taylor is pretty clear she resents it and thinks people like that are assholes. She couldn’t be more scathing about it on this album.

The Tortured Poets Department is the most Taylor Swift album she’s ever put out. It’s the culmination of everything she’s ever done. It’s the teenage petulance of debut. It’s the hope and naïveté of fearless. It’s the lack of filter of speak now. It’s the emotional rollercoaster of red. It’s the pride of 1989. It’s the angst and the rebirth of reputation. It’s the hopeless romanticism of lover. It’s the storytelling and literary allusions of folklore and evermore. It’s the dark reminiscence of midnights. Which is why I think it’s resonating more with those who have been here the whole time and can see the echoes of each era in this album.

it’s kind of mind blowing how much people can’t seem to grasp that Taylor’s feelings for Matty were real in the moment hence these songs but she’s also clearly telling us they were a result of mania and basically a breakdown!! Two things can be true at once. It felt like love as it was happening but now she knows it was the idea of it tied up in his broken lies and promises.

yes! like, they were both real and not real. schrodinger’s situationship.

genuinely the way taylor clearly falls hard and fast and hopelessly in love every single time is very endearing. writing "this happens once every few lifetimes" and "no one's ever had me, not like you" on the same album that covers the breakdown of two relationships that were also seemingly destined and life changing and unmatched by anyone else is exactly what makes her so good at writing about relationships. if a songwriter doesn't feel everything with their whole chest and throw their whole being into it then I don't want it

I’m just going to whisper this in my little corner over here…because yeah we all can interpret songs differently…and that’s the great thing about art…yada yada yada…

Buuuttttt…all these write ups that Taylor is trying to tell a story about a guy luring her away from her long term relationship and that it’s his fault she lost that life and how devastated she is and how much she hates him because he caused her to give up that life…

Ummm…what the hell are y’all smoking? How did you arrive at these wack conclusions? Did we listen to the same album?

“I almost didn’t think of the scale of it. There’s the sort of bigness of [Taylor Swift the phenomenon], and then there’s the Taylor I spend time with in the studio, who is just the sweetest and most down to earth. [She came to me with] a concept and a story, which is my favourite way to start songwriting. We had such a fun time. And then when it came out I was like, ‘Oh, shit!’”
