He doesn't have to wait for long. It's a few minutes before he catches Rin's shadow all the way down across the hallway, and he pushes off the wall, manages to take about three steps before Rin pauses and blinks at him.
"Makoto."
Their eyes meet--Rin's noticeably softening, and Makoto smiles.
He holds out a hand. "Come with me for a second?"

It is the oldest of the exodus cities, and strives most to resemble the arrogant cities of Earth’s past. Every city all at once, leaving it devoid of its own identity or sense of cohesion. The only common thread tying its streets together is the same thread linking past to present in a continuum of countless lessons gone unlearned. Makes sense, pretty simple. Those that wrecked the first attempt and suffered few consequences for it would of course be the only survivors able to escape and try it again somewhere else. The Mawrth Vallis Ark was the first to land and root and thrive, its inhabitants the most eager to consume another planet as soon as possible. That is the city’s founding ethos, and will be forever, until it consumes itself.
Which Ark was that, anyway? Sousuke isn’t up to speed on his Martian history because he chooses not to be. Fuck Mars.

having just done this recently and feeling unglamorous about it, i think makoto would first spill coffee on sousuke during turbulence and feel awful about it, so sousuke would flirt by queueing up a movie to makoto's until makoto stopped being embarrassed long enough to notice. they can choose intentionally bad movies from there to chat over. then they can play the trivia games together until they either won a fake $1,000,000, sousuke falls asleep, or they give up because the games ask both too many questions about the tallest mountains in the UK and the british monarchy. makoto has to literally run to a connecting flight but sousuke got the digits.
