"If there was one thing I knew, it was monsters."

Nothing good comes from magic. It's dangerous, deceptive, and as unseemly as those who wield it. Althaia learned this as a child and simultaneously realized she needed to protect herself from it.

No year, day, or minute has she regretted her decision or the paranoid title it earned her. If Althaia had her way, she would stay at home where the mounted protections have left it the safest place she knows.

But wants can't always be had, neither can everything be planned.

Althaia did not plan on volunteering to stay in a place where magic not only fills the air and tickles the throat but where Venenifer, beings who can manifest magic as easily as breathing, run rampant in the easy acceptance of those around them. But how else could she find out who framed her family for treason while also trying to save them from destitution?

There was no time to draw straws. No time to think or plan anything out. Only act. And she does not plan on failing her house.

Having to work with unconventional allies and a tricky not so queen, Althaia also finds her life entwined with mysterious and dangerous mages called 'Puppeteers' who seem to have it out for her.

As time runs out, she must work to survive both the Puppeteers and the very people she's working with, as she seems to be the only one who cares for her safety.

wiat can someone explain to me why chat ai is bad, im so ootl on this /gen

Yes, of course!

So, If you are familiar with the ethical debate around AI art, you should know that today's "AI" is not actually AI. The AI we have now is not artificial intelligence. It is merely a program cobbling together things fed into the machine to produce a new image or piece of writing. However, what is created is not actually NEW. "AI" art and Character "AI" scrapes artists' and writers' original works from the internet without their consent, then mushes it all together to create the desired outcome of the prompt it was given. These artists and writers are not consulted or compensated before their art is used. This means that your favorite fanfic writers and artists' work is regularly stolen and used to create someone's "AI" art image or Character "AI" conversation without them knowing or being able to stop it.

Along with this, there is a more culturally relevant reason to not support Chat "AI." As the writers' strike continues, it is becoming increasingly more worrying that large film companies might replace human writers with "AI." This would not only put immense amounts of people out of work. It would also almost completely erase creative job options. They aren't only trying to start using "AI" to write scripts. Due to the recent SAG-AFTRA strike, they have proposed scanning the likeness of an actor to be used indefinitely without that actor's long-term compensation. And the elimination of artists in the graphic design field is self-explanatory. Why would a company pay twice as much money to commission an artist for their work, when they could get a result for half the price in mere seconds?

Capitalism is literally trying to illuminate the need for creatives in the workforce. This is disgusting. From the beginning of time, people have created art. They have sold art. They have bought art. Large corporations are trying to make that obsolete.

If you care at ALL about the creative community and the future of art itself, do NOT feed the "AI." It is actively working against you.

Relatable protagonist checklist

Here’s a quick checklist to creating a relatable protagonist. I often get bombarded with questions of whether a protagonist is likeable (from my clients and also here on instagram - that seems to be among the popular ones!).

But the truth is - a good story has nothing to do with whether your protagonist is likeable. A good protagonist will almost never be objectively likeable until they’ve learned the lesson the story is trying to teach. It’s to do with whether your protagonist is RELATABLE.

As long as we can understand where that person is coming from and why they’re making the choices they are, we can understand them on a deeper level and become invested in their story, as we actually start to CRAVE that change — their character development.

And there’s absolutely nothing more satisfying then seeing a character journey unfold right, and they become the person we knew they could be from the start.

My Character Bible has all the steps you need to create a fully fleshed strong protagonist that will carry the story for you!

Pick up my 3 extensive workbooks for writers, with dozens of fully-customisable templates. These are my first ever original E-books and templates available outside of my coaching programs!

The Writer’s ToolBoox contains: The Character Bible, The Plotter’s Almanac, and The World-Builder’s Chronicle

I'm saying this as a fan, but also as somebody who worked their arse off writing screenplays at film school, don't hate on the writers when they go on strike.

Writers control the story of the show, there is so much detail and fine tuning done in the scripts. Everything an actor or a director adds, is adapted from the script. There is no show without the script, but still screenwriters are horrendously underappreciated and underpaid.

Director, actors and producers usually end up with most of the credit.

Writers deserve to be seen. If your favorite show is delayed because of the upcoming strikes, don't be surprised and please don't be angry at the writers. They are fighting for their art to be appreciated.

Some of your shows are gonna get cancelled.

Some will come back but lose their momentum and you'll wish they'd been cancelled.

This isn't the fault of writers. This is the fault of the studios.

The Writers' Guild has made a list of demands that will cost $500 million a year across the ENTIRE industry. Every studio, every streaming service, every film, every show, every writer: total cost $500 million. One streaming alone could foot the entire bill and still be in comfortable profit. Its half of what Amazon spent on Rings of Power alone. A little more than what Netflix spent on The Gray Man.

The studios can easily afford this. They're just being assholes about it.

Don't blame the writers.

u know, having a “career” in art is cool and whatnot but i really do just do this stuff cause i have a lot of fun doing everything myself and making the little visuals and writing my little book and making my songs in my bedroom and doing everything exactly to my taste. it makes me happier than probably anything else in the world. i think so much of art has become a competition or a showcase of skill or something these days but i really do believe in creating things simply because you enjoy it.

you should always be your own biggest fan!

Tag Game: Word Find

The exceedingly lovely @oh-no-another-idea tagged me for this! Thank you so much!!!

My words are frost, dust, burst, and west, and I shall take these from my wip, Puppet Kingdom. :)

-----

Frost Snow + Dust

I make to respond when a hand snakes into my peripheral and snatches my books away. A new courtier swishes past me as she joins the others, leaving flakes of gold dust behind her like excess snow.
They look as familiar as strangers to me, but there’s little question about them knowing who I am.

Burst

I make to say ‘it’s all right’ on instinct, but the words die in my throat. Everything is not alright, and in this moment, I allow myself to stop pretending.
Three knocks on the door give us a five-second warning before it bursts open.

West East

At least now that I had what I needed, I was fully able to hole away in my room until the storm blew over. That is unless Avyanna sent for me. Then I was doomed.

-----

This was a lot of fun, and a bit of a dusting off of PK, which I haven't read in a while.

I shall leave this an open tag today! Whoever would like to do this, I give you the words daily, don't, danger, and dawn. :)
