I just got out of an art block and I'm having trouble doing the outline of my drafts, its really getting me down, do you know a way to make the outlining look smooth and neat? Also, I absolutely love your work and its so cool to see that you're a fellow British too!
ahh thank you! i’m not so great at tutorials but i know where you’ve been - first thing I’d do if you haven’t already is change your pens stabilizer setting to something higher (like s-3 or s-4). this’ll give you more control of the pen and to get more comfortable with it, just take a blank canvas and fill it with lines and squiggles to loosen your hand up. nothing worse than lining with a stiff hand so do as many warm ups as you need til you get in the flow of it! (u WILL get there!)
another thing i’d recommend is not spending too long on the sketch. the more time you spend perfecting the sketch, the more frustrating it’ll be when the line art doesn’t totally match up, or looks “worse” by comparison. plus it saves a lot of time just to get the foundations and build from there! (tho not as practical for super detailed pieces, ofc)
its important to remember tho that clean linework doesn’t always make a better drawing. plenty of artists use looser lines or no lines at all to great effect and it can be fun to experiment with - hell i didn’t even line things until a few months ago, just kept adding to the sketch! just try things out and see what works for you, i’m sure you’ll be back into the swing of it in no time (o˘◡˘o)
