It was how long they fell that was the most concerning thing.
The two teens with numbers going around their hands were sharing words calmly, listening for the distant crunch of the mirror detectives going under the wheels. They were arguing about the specifics of what everything meant, of the ease at which the taller boy dispatched them, the immediacy of which the girl in the cat hoodie jumped to disposing of the bodies- the specifics of it didn’t matter- their reflections watched them from the doorway, a feeling of dread overcoming them both.

Ignore this if it’s too personal, but did you play shoka before or after you started going by all pronouns? There’s a lot of your performance of her that really does show how comfortable you’re become including she/her with he/him and they/them, if that makes sense.
Shoka is still pre anymore nouns actually, but I can definitely see my brain move in the direction of being like "ah yes, I think this is the move"
Also, genuinely, hanging out with Emma made me go "oh shit I get it"

shadow’s honestly a little surprised when it’s tails who finds him at the bar, three months after he gets off the train. usually when he disappears on these sorts of benders it’s sonic who comes after him and drags him back to civilization. “drew the short straw, did you?” shadow asks, because he’s still an asshole and no amount of time displaced therapy train is going to get that out of him.
“he’s out of town this week,” tails says flatly, and sits down next to him. “i don’t want to deal with the panic if he comes back and finds you gone again, even if it’s not permanent. this doesn’t have anything to do with you.”
shadow picks up his glass and toasts him sarcastically with it. “feeling’s mutual.”
