Welcome to The Hopeful Romantic!

My friends call me Mal and my family calls me Lia (I respond to both). I write romance and relationship-focused stories. I believe in soulmates, happy endings and finding 'the one'.

I always dreamed of becoming a writer but knew early on that I wasn't meant to be a starving artist in a garret. So, I built a career I'm proud of and wrote whenever time allowed (which was almost never for the longest time).

During the pandemic, I realized that I was tired of waiting for the stars to align to pursue my writing. So, I created this account to initially share my original novel, Happy Ever After. And then I started writing fanfiction for Open Heart, now Chenford (on AO3) and the rest is history.

Aside from fics and edits, I post positivity quotes and coffee memes, swoon over Hallmark movies and share random musings.

I enjoy answering questions, so don't be shy. I also take fic requests -- anons are open!

Valentine Memories

Premise: When Alan finds a box of childhood memorabilia, Cassie teases Ethan about his romantic past.

A/N: This is based on an ask I received from @jerzwriter. Submission for @choicesmonthlychallenge To Be prompt "XOXO"; @choicesholidays Valentine's Day prompt "Be my valentine"; @choices-february2023, Day 14 prompt "Valentine's Day"; @choicesficwriterscreations Valentine's Day event.

It was a bright blue winter day with freshly fallen snow dotting the flat green landscape around Interstate 90. They left Boston late enough to avoid the weekend crowds heading off to ski lodges in the vicinity but early enough to make a day of it in Providence.

When the car turned toward I-95, the south-easterly sun’s harsh rays bounced off the windshield. Briefly blinded, Cassie Valentine pulled the visor down and silently cursed.

She meant to grab her sunglasses before leaving the apartment, but she’d overslept and had been in a rush. The last thing she wanted was for Ethan to give her a look that implied he hadn’t truly expected her to be ready on time.

The delectable Dr. Ramsey could be a real troll on occasion.

Cassie would have said this to Max when she got accepted to Edenbrook. 😆 He was not happy she was moving to another city instead of doing residency closer to home.

Choices Pride Month Event

In celebration of Pride Month, CFWC is delighted to host Pride Bingo again.

The event will run from June 1st through June 30th.

One lucky winner will receive a fanart commission for a 2-person, full-body chibi with a full background from the lovely and talented @bayleedraws-sometimesx.

The winner will be randomly selected using Wheel of Names and announced by Tuesday, July 2nd.

About the categories:

  • The categories are inspired by Pride Month themes worldwide over the years.
  • We have purposely left the categories broad for you to interpret them for your characters as you see appropriate.

Submissions must focus on characters who are part of the LGBTQ+ community (or 2SLGBTQIA+, as we say in Canada).

Miracle of life, my ass!

It was a miracle the world’s population was edging toward eight billion, given the indignities that pregnancy wrought on women’s bodies.

Cassie Valentine barely controlled a grimace as her patient let out an inhumane scream and tried to push a watermelon-sized human being out of her hoo-ha. The mammoth pregnant belly heaved and metamorphized with each contraction, blood and fluids gushing out from between her thighs.

She was in week three of her intern year ambulatory electives block. She’d chosen Women’s Health, thinking learning more about her body would be cool. However, most of her rotation had been spent in labor and delivery since that team was short-staffed.

Apparently, this was a popular time for giving birth in Boston. What else could horny Bostonians do during the long, cold winter nights?

A/N: This was an Anon request. Submission for @choicesmonthlychallengejune2022 Day 8 “I’d love to go out with you”

When Cassie Valentine had been in medical school, she had heard all the horror stories about residency. Long hours, grumpy attendings, and the absolute mental and physical toll it took on a person.

Now that she was almost at the end of her second year of residency, she thought that despite everything there wasn’t anything else that she wanted to do. Even after today, which had been particularly difficult with PITAs and surly colleagues, so she was feeling wrung out.

She leaned against the wall to rest her aching back and closed her eyes, dreaming of a scented bubble bath and a glass of chilled white wine.
