While this bill doesn’t require states to allow same-sex marriage, it does require them to recognize same-sex marriages performed in other states.

So anyone wanting to get married can travel to another state, get married, come back, and the state has to recognize their marriage as valid.

Well I read the first book and it was a wild ride, time to dive immediately into the second book!

God you guys, I’m thinking about the Voyager probes and bringing myself to tears.

These two tiny, and very insignificant constructs, have been thrown far into space. Their original purpose was to explore as far as they can, and send data back to us on Earth, so we can explore beyond out own limited means. 

But they serve a secondary purpose as well. They contain open letters to any intelligent life in the universe that might find them. 

We have included in these probes Golden Records. These records contain a myriad of things. 

The most important are instructions on how to play these records. 

They contain sound. Music, people laughing, people saying hello in half a hundred different languages, a child saying his name, birdsong, thunder, waves rolling over a beach, and so many others. 

We want them to be able to sample the whole of humanity’s noise, which seems to grand at surface level, but shrinks when compared to the seemingly infinite cosmos. 

Both also contain data which, if translated properly, will show these distant strangers what we look like. Both at surface level, diagrams of us on the inside, and they will show us engaging in different sometimes mundane, sometimes fantastic activates. One is a woman eating ice cream. Another is a human doing a spacewalk. 

They also contain a map of our solar system, so that when these records are found, these strange strangers might be able to see where we are and come visit. 

We have extended an open invitation to life in the universe to come here, to see us. 

We know they might be radically different then us. We know they might be the exact same. Either scenario, if true, is terrifying. We have taken a gamble with the hope that someone might be out there, and that someone might be kind. 

But there is another factor in play. The universe might very well be empty. We might be shouting literally into the void, with no audience to entertain. 

But we simply hope to be acknowledged. 

(I cannot explain or put properly into words exactly what I want to say. Humans are complex. I wanted to talk of that complexity. I could not. I wanted to put into the words the feeling the very existence of these records give me, for both humanity and whatever life might be out there. I could not because I simply find the emotion too complex.) 

I know I shouldn’t hang my feelings about my art on the shoulders of other people, but the things you guys are saying the in the notes makes my heart so full
