An open note to readers of fanfic

Sometimes I stare at the computer screen when the words don’t want to come and I think, “Fuck, who am I kidding? This is terrible writing, and this story is shit, and no one cares, anyway.“  And I close the window and go do something else.

But every now and then I get an amazing, heartfelt, beautiful comment from someone who loved something I wrote, and it reminds me that, at least for that one person, I did write something worthwhile. And so I open the window again and I write one sentence, and then another, and then I start to find my way again.

So on behalf of all fanfic writers everywhere, I want to say thank you, thank you so much, to all of the readers who take the time to leave a comment and tell us that something we wrote mattered to you, that it brightened your day or made you laugh or cry or get horny or whatever.

Please don’t think we’re ever bothered by your comment, or that we don’t want to hear it, or that what you have to say isn’t important enough. It means so, so much. And on some days, it’s what keeps us going.

Wet hair hangs in his face, clinging to his skin, and he runs his tattooed hand through the dark strands. The curves of his muscles in his arms and chest are visible through his shirt as the dripping material hugs them tight. You don’t respond to his query, too busy admiring how he manages to make sopping wet look so good until a laugh jolts you from your trance.

He tries again. “How about I get changed and then I’ll come over?” This time you nod. “Okay. Cool.”

He opens his door and steps inside. You follow.

Part 13: The Apartment Again

August

The front gate guards bow to you after you show your ID and passcard to Namjoon’s apartment complex. You use the card to open the second, unmanned gate.

There is a small break in the vacation. Namjoon and the group have interviews on their UN work that need to happen now. Someone came to pick him up yesterday, but you’re going to drive the two of you back to the cabin tonight. You want to get going early so it’s still light when driving on the long back roads.

You made a stop at your place to get a few things. And then Namjoon gave you the key card to his apartment to pick up some books, a waterproof watch (some fancy one that probably cost a portion of Korea’s GDP), and sunglasses since he’d already broken two pairs on his current trip.

Oh God sometimes this story is way too real it hurts a lot and at the same time thinking about the things their loved ones must have gotten thru. Such a high price to pay for fame and fortune indeed...
