hey, my kurdish friend wanted to point out that the iranian woman murdered by the police in tehran was a kurd and her kurdish name was jîna emînî. she has mostly been referred to as mahsa amini, the iranian version of her name, in the media & that can ofc still be used to make sure posts about her reach a mainstream audience. however people should make sure to mention her given kurdish name foremost, as well as highlight the fact that she was a kurd in the first place, because that played a part in her facing the violence that she did.

While I’m not thrilled with some of the wallpaper choices in this 1908 home in Toulon, Illinois, the price of only $289.9K makes it fixable. It’s a very unusual historic home.

Look at how pretty and homey it is.

The entrance hall is a bit tacky, but maybe if you just painted the wall a lighter pink or green, it would work.

Original pocket doors.

The light fixture in the sitting room looks original, and it has a nice corner fireplace.

This is a very large room that looks like a wall was removed. Love the transoms over the doors.

The kitchen is so unusual and as true to original as can be.

I would have to ask if they would sell some of the pieces. They are superb.

How sweet is this old pantry?

I’ve never seen lights in the corners of beams. Plus, there’s a built-in cabinet. Very nice.

Lovely little office or craft room. This house has the transom open/closer mechanism, too.

Pretty powder room.

Lovely sunroom.

Nice window. You know, I bet a darker burgundy paint would tie in with that.

The home has 5 bds.

Cool bathroom. It’s so full of light.

Bds. are a good size.

This bath’s a little funky w/the 70s tub.

4 car garage.

And, 1.38 acres of beautiful land.

So much potential- look at the rooftop deck.

this headline should be “police kill innocent child in reckless firebombing”

The innocent boy’s name is Brett Rosenau. He was 15 years old, not 14 like some news outlets have reported. Here is a link to donate to his funeral expenses. His father, whom Brett is named after, was shot by police on December 31st, 2006. He was 24 years old and his son was months away from being born.

His mother Amanda Lopez has lost both her partner and son at the hands of police.

In the late 1930s-1940s, Michael Bond, author of Paddington Bear, saw Jewish refugee children (Kindertransport children) passing through Reading Station from London, arriving in Britain escaping from the Nazi horrors of Europe.

Mr. Bond, touched by what he saw, recalled those memories 20 years later when he began his story of Paddington Bear. One morning in 1958, he was searching for writing inspiration and simply wrote the words: “Mr. and Mrs. Brown first met Paddington on a railway platform…”

“They all had a label round their neck with their name and address on and a little case or package containing all their treasured possessions,” Bond said in an interview with The Telegraph before his death in 2017. “So Paddington, in a sense, was a refugee, and I do think that there’s no sadder sight than refugees.”

Paddington Bear - known for his blue overcoat, bright red hat, and wearing a simple hand-written tag that says “Please look after this bear. Thank you.”

Paddington embodies the appearance of many refugee children. His suitcase is an emblem of his own refugee status.

“We took in some Jewish children who often sat in front of the fire every evening, quietly crying because they had no idea what had happened to their parents, and neither did we at the time. It’s the reason why Paddington arrived with the label around his neck”. – Michael Bond

Michael Bond died at 91 in 2017. The epitaph on his gravestone reads, “Please look after this bear. Thank you.”

Please look after all the young Bears in Ukraine.

If you had five billion you could hop from job to job, calling entitled customers idiots all across your city, putting the fear of You into every shithead in town until people become afraid to be rude to servers and cashiers, lest you emerge from the back room like some kind of manners-enforcing specter

I find it fascinating that people who choose not to have children are generally assumed to feel really strongly about not having children (or even to feel really strongly against children, anyone’s children, in general). I am probably not going to have children, not because I REALLY REALLY HATE the idea of having children, but because I don’t really really love it. Out of all the major decisions I will make in my life, this one is the only irreversible one. I can sell a house, quit a job, divorce a spouse, whatever. I cannot unhave a child. I cannot opt out of being a parent once I become a parent. I can’t even take a step back for the sake of self-care or whatever, or else my child will suffer.

So for me, having children is fuck yes or not at all. The default will be to remain childfree. Having children should be an opt-in decision, not an opt-out one. Until/unless I develop really strong feelings about wanting to have children, I won’t have them, even if that means I never end up having them at all.

Sometimes you just come across something that puts into words what you have yet been unable to.

Lol there’s this YouTube video of some guy confesing why he loves his girlfriend and he’s like I’ll love you even in the next life when I’m the wife and you’re the husband, and men are in the comments like “he was killin it until the sex change part”, “yeah that was hella sus”, “bruh theres sugar in his tank I’m sure of it”, like non stop all having the same reaction some women too. Which is crazy to me bc that’s like not a radical statement at all. To say I’ll love you in the next life whatever form we take is like basic India arie lyrics like if he said that 20 years ago I think people would understand he’s thinking cosmically it’s typical twin flame spiritual black hippy shit, but nowadays everyone’s devolved into Neanderthals and they want to drag us back into caves with them. We r going backwards

do y'all even know how much i hate being an "elder queer" at 40? a whole goddamn generation before me was wiped out by a plague that politicians deemed not their problem bc it was killing the "right" people. like. this was OPENLY STATED. i spent a large chunk of my childhood going to funerals. nevermind the fact that killing queer people for being queer wasn't codified into law as a hate crime until i was a junior in high school.

i should NOT be an elder queer, i should be middle at most. i am a middle aged queer. most of the elder queers died.

when i was growing up i didn't go to pride parades, i went to pride marches. because that's 100% what they were in the 80s and 90s.

from the absolute bottom of my heart, LEARN OUR FUCKING HISTORY. a generation was nearly wiped out so you young queers could be here. don't let that have been in vain, please.
