As someone who grew up with "I'm not going to praise you for doing what's expected of you; that's not being good, that's doing the bare minimum" I want to encourage you to celebrate every little thing you can. Everything that takes energy and effort should be appreciated and you're allowed to be happy about trying.

#was lucky enough to meet people at work who thanked me or praised me for things i wasn't thanked for before#and i thought it was a bit silly at first but then i realized the value#tell people around you thank you for small things tell them they did a good job#it pays forward

one of the reasons xuexiao keeps rotating in my brain forever is that it is in many ways a meditation on the limits of love. are there any? can the lack of them become a bad thing? if there are limits, where should they be? what can love forgive, and what can it not forgive? what can love change, and what can it not change? you could say that the love was not enough, yet it still profoundly affected all who it touched. could there be a universe in which the love was enough? should there be?

xuexiao is a study in these themes pushed to the extremes and that's one of the reasons it's endlessly fascinating to me.
