i know haven’t been on this blog in a hot second but here’s your reminder that my bobby was raised in the mormon church and it impacted a lot of his life growing up. he stopped going to church when he was 17/18.
his mother is an ashkenazi jew, which is to say bobby is an Ashkenazi Jew, and when he stopped going to church he started trying to learn more about that side of his heritage by practicing jewish holidays and going to temple with his close friend kitty pryde.

BOBBY DRAKE HAS ALWAYS BEEN THE INCORRUPTIBLE MORAL COMPASS OF THE X - MEN… BUT WHAT IF THINGS HAD GONE DIFFERENTLY….
it starts in the very beginning when bobby is first gets attacked as a high schooler by his classmates when a rumor starts to circulate that he’s gay. his powers manifest that day to defend himself and he accidentally kills one of his attackers. bobby, not knowing what else to do and panics and runs. even though it was self defense the event makes major news headlines as a dangerous mutant attack. this attracts the attention of the master of magnetism himself, and magneto travels to long island and finds a terrified bobby and offers to help him, assuring him that he wasn’t wrong to defend himself and that he can teach the young mutant to protect himself and others in his same situation.
bobby joins of the brotherhood of mutants as iceman, using his organic ice form to keep his identity a secret and helping magneto toward his goal of peace for mutant kind. he truly believes that humans will never let mutants live peacefully and the only way they can protect themselves is with force. but he eventually leaves the brotherhood when magnetos methods become too much for him.
he continues as iceman, not affiliated with the x-men or the brotherhood and staying out of inter-mutant conflicts bobby mostly works alone to protect innocent mutants and directly attacking anti - mutant hate groups such as the friends of humanity and the purifiers. his methods are grizzly and efficient and he feels little remorse about killing in the name of protecting people.
bobby still does not come out as gay until later in life, in his late 20s, due to a mixture of trauma and compartmentalization and even when he does come out he is fairly guarded about it, due to him being an extremely private person. part of the reason why he didn’t come out until so late is because, similar to in canon, he doesn’t want another reason for people to hate him. he is distrustful of people and fears that if they learn his secret they will react violently like what happened in his past.
bobby is devastatingly powerful, and because he’s much less afraid of using his powers he is much more versatile and creative. he is not ashamed of his powers like he normally is, because even subconsciously in canon bobby usually is.
Iceman’s control of his powers are so vast that it extends to the molecular level, to the point that he can freeze all of the molecules of an object / being with a thought, as well as unfreeze it. an example would be freezing the blood in the veins , thereby stopping flow to the brain.
wherever there is any moisture, iceman is a threat. iceman has demonstrated the ability to be transformed into nothing more than water or water vapor, yet remain conscious and retain the use of his powers. in his organic ice form iceman is virtually indestructible, allowing him to reform his body should it become shattered. in his ice form, he is able to use the moisture in the air to form spikes, shields and attach other extra appendages to his body and rebuild anything that is broken off.
it’s important to note that bobby never stops caring, no mater what verse, and a huge part of why he is able to do the terrible things he is in this au is because he cares so much. he has extrmemly strong sense of empathy and justice and will do whatever it necessary to protect innocent lives.
