DAY 6: 3am conversations with tomioka giyuu.

your phone lit up with a text message, sent by a man who you knew would be awake at the devil’s hour; you don’t mind though, after all, you are still awake yourself. 

giyuu: are you awake?

your fingers hover over your keyboard, contemplating over your answer before you sigh externally, what is there to contemplate about?

you: yeah, i am. guess you can’t sleep either, huh?

giyuu: as always.

you roll over from your previous position to your side, now holding your phone over your head as you rest on your back. another set of text bubbles pop on the bottom of the screen, notifying that he’s typing another message and you wait for him to send it.

giyuu: can i call you?

silence washes over the room, more deafening than it was before; there must be something wrong — because giyuu never asks to call, and every time he does, it’s always something important.

you decided to beat him to it, choosing to press the call button before he did — that is enough of an answer for him. you allow the line to connect, ringing in your ear before the sound of a soft whisper answers you,  ❝  [name]?  ❞

the collected male on the other side of the line hugs his knees close to his chest, trying to warm himself up against the harsh cold winter outside his bedroom window despite the temperature has been turned up. it was one of those days.

❝  hey, tomioka-san,  ❞  your response is equally as soft and once again, you roll over to your other side — your phone pressed between your ear and the pillow. you pull close a bolster against your chest, waiting for an answer. when there is none but slightly uncharacterised uneven breaths from the usually composed male, you spoke again,  ❝  you alright?  ❞

giyuu takes a deep breath before nodding to no one in particular but himself, the rustling sound indicating the action to you.  ❝  yeah, just needed someone to talk to,  ❞  it sounds stupid, because he called you at 3am with vague explanation — he still wonders how you have not hung up by now and go to bed.

❝  that’s okay,  ❞  in a way, your voice comforts him — put him at familiar ease.  ❝  i’m your friend. you can always call me, and that’s okay.  ❞   you must be a mindreader for having read his mind even through the line; giyuu smiles silently to himself.  ❝  hey, you know what happened today in the art class?  ❞   when there is no response but a hum from the other line, you continue,  ❝  uzui-san blew up the studio again! can you believe it? god, i wonder how ubuyashiki-sama still has him employed.  ❞

you continue to ramble on and on, and giyuu listens intently, releasing a soft hum every now and then to indicate that he is still there on the call with you, but soon those fillers decrease overtime. seconds tick by and dawn comes around, yet you are far from done, but when there is a lack of answer, you stopped.

❝  tomioka-san?  ❞  you call out, but find soft snores reach your ear. a soft smile graces your features, a giggle following.  it’s saturday, thankfully, you’ll come around to his place later. you hung up with a soft,  ❝  sleep well, tomioka-san.  ❞
