When will the bellarke ff awards launch this year?

As of right now we don’t have any plans for a bffa 18. An event on this large of a scale requires a huge amount of nominations in order for the polls to be as varied and unbiased as possible and, after canceling last year, we just don’t think enough people will be interested and/or participate.

So this means no awards this year? :( Sorry that this has happened to you. What a shame it is. This was the highlight of the last three years and truly looked forward to this year. I hope you all take the time away from this project that you need. Please know that many of us do appreciate you guys and all of the time and work you put into these awards. Very sorry to see this go.

We’ve received a couple of questions asking for clarification, so just to clear it up: there will be no awards this year. However, we are not standing in anyone’s way if they want to create their own awards and host them, but ours are officially cancelled. We’re incredibly sorry. And thank you for your kind words, they are appreciated!

Heavy Hearts

This fandom has been around almost three and a half years. We’ve seen a lot of ups and downs, but there has been some brilliant content produced in spite of it all.

Our team, mainly our HBIC, Jade, spent months and months tirelessly prepping for these awards. Going over documents, brainstorming, trying to improve upon the foundation we have built over the last two awards. We wanted to be better, to do better, for you guys. In addition to all the physical and mental labor that goes into this, a lot of emotional labor weighed on us as we approached the beginning of these awards.

There has been a lot of chaotic energy surrounding certain factions of the fandom. There has also been, from what it looks like on our end, some manipulation of nominations. There has been actions taken that have made all of us feel like these awards aren’t even about having fun anymore. We feel like we’re being pushed into a corner, with people waiting for us to misstep, misspeak, make mistakes and use that as leverage.

This event was created out of love. We wanted to bring something positive to the fandom. And slowly and tragically it has become something the complete opposite.

We are humans, not robots. We are entitled to our own opinions and beliefs and after running this blog for 3 years, we can proudly say we have done our absolute best to keep this blog as unbiased as possible. However, it’s become nearly impossible for our team to function because we cannot even use our private twitter accounts to express ourselves.

We are extremely grateful for all the people who stepped up to help this year:

We cannot express how sorry we are, but we simply cannot take on this project anymore. Not with people waiting for us to fail at every step we take. It’s not fun, or fair. We understand people will still talk and assume, and if you cannot understand that we’re simply human beings, with real feelings, then there’s not really anymore we can say to help you understand.

We hope you’ll all understand, from the bottom of our hearts.

Hi! Is there a list somewhere if what authors opted out of being nominated? Just so I know before I send nominations in and realize I should have done different ones..

The only author that has officially opted out is Chash. This ‘list’ is also located in a sidebar box on our blog.

So does that mean we can nominate one fic in multiple categories? (As an addition to the last ask)

Yes, but please understand that if it receives enough nominations, it will only qualify for one in the end.

But feel free to nominate the same one in multiple categories if you think it’ll give it a better chance!

Can we nominate as much as we want? 1) For a single author, do we have to keep it a minimum 5 nominations (2 categories per section) or can we nominate for as many as we want and they only be featured in 5 categories? 2) For the "Author Section", it says the nominated author can only be featured in 2 categories. Does that mean we can nominate them in two categories for fics, and two author categories OR can they only be nominated in one author category in addition to the two fic categories?

You can nominate an author/work in as many categories as you like, though you cannot nominate the same author/work in both of your nominations per each category otherwise only one will count. Don’t worry about the author/work limitations, we do that magic during cross-referencing.

As an author, I just need some clarification. We cannot ask people to nominate us, as started in the rules. Can we mention in our stories to nominate if they liked? Or are we not allowed to say anything to anyone? Just don't want to break the rules! Thanks =D

You cannot specifically ask someone to nominate you or your work in a specific category or section otherwise that would be seen as them nominating on your behalf. However, you can mention that if they like your work then they can show their appreciation by nominating in the awards, as long as you’re not offering any type of bribery such as “if you nominate this work I’ll update quicker”. Hope this clarifies things for you!

PSA: Nominations

Because there is a need for clarification, apparently. If you don’t have a handle, and you provide no legitimate contact point (tumblr, twitter, e-mail, ao3, anything) -- your nominations will not be counted. We cannot verify that you have not sent other nominations before, or will send them again.

Each person may only fill out the nomination form once, this is to maintain a sense of integrity and fairness in ‘stuffing ballots’ and/or similar situations. We hope you can understand, and thank you!

For future BFFAs can I suggest a Best Meta Post/Best Meta Creator in the Creators section? I have so many I love that give me just as many feels as my favorite fics! Thanks. =)

That is definitely something we can consider for next year.

At the end of this years awards we will do a feedback survey, just as we did last year-- that will be a great place for these kinds of ideas!

Why do you need our twitter/tumblr accounts? Is it to announce who we've nominated or to keep track of people...? Also, I didn't see a spot to put links in for the nomination form and I read/got the impression that we need to submit those. Did I miss the spot?

1) We need handles (we only need 1, not all-- some people are only on one or the other) because we need to be sure people are not nominating/voting more than once. That information stays private. We will also use it to contact you and confirm that we received your nominations.

2) You can paste the links right into the nomination. We can deduce the title/author through the link, so that’s really the only information you need to provide.

Just so you know, it says that we cannot nominate yet :) The direct link in your recent post and through the navigation bar both say that the page is not found.

Sorry about that, it should be working now!

Nominations

The time has come, starting today, July 26th, nominations are officially open and will stay open until Monday August 7th @ 11:59 EST.  All you have to do is go HERE and take a little bit of your time to make sure that your favorite fanfictions, authors and content creators get the recognition and appreciation that they deserve.

Please refer to our rules for nominations, as there are some parameters that have to be met.

We understand that the nomination process can be somewhat stressful, therefore we’ve created a document - which you can copy here, that will help you store your nominations while researching making submitting your nominations that bit easier (please note all the sections are on additional sheets on the bottom of the page).
