Ultear offered a warm smile to her friend and lover in return. Hugging him more tightly, she inhaled his familiar scent, trying to absorb all of his warmth, both literal and figurative. It had been so long and her heart had ached every day she was separated from him. “As did I, my love.”

The tree arc mage was known to be a light sleeper, always ready for anything life threw at him, so it was no surprise that he was awoken by the softest spoken of words. Azuma turned over to face her, taking in her tragic beauty. “No, I’m awake. Is there something you wish to talk about?”
she inhaled softly at the sound of his voice, so familiar, so needed. wrapping her arms around the back of her knees, she drew them to her chest and directed her gaze at them. she knew not sleeping for as long as she had was unhealthy, that it was draining her of life. but still, she felt better just by the mere sound of his voice.
“Nothing important. Just another nightmare. I’m feeling better, thank you.”
She disliked being vunerable, but it seened inevitable with him. Normally, she hated people trying to take care of her, but she enjoyed him caring for her, as she did him. She turned her head on her knees to greet him with a soft smile, eyes almost closing as she did so.
He sat up next to her, laying an arm around her shoulders and gently pulling her close. “Ultear, I’m concerned for you and all aspects of your health- mentally, physically, and emotionally. I didn’t want to push you or seem confrontational, but I can’t let this go on. You haven’t been eating much, you’re tired all the time but you won’t sleep, and I know that smile is not genuine. If there is something I can do to help you, please tell me. If you need someone to vent to, I’m always here.”
Azuma placed a kiss on the top of her head as reassurance, both for her and for him.
She let herself be pulled to him, even letting go of her legs to wrap her arms around him in exchange. She exhaled softly, letting her eyes fall shut. Ultear rarely felt safe, but under his arm, soaking up his warmth, she felt she might be able to sleep peacefully, something that occurred very little.
"I'm sorry for causing concern, and being foolish. I thought not sleeping may end the nightmares, but it has brought me weakness instead. I'll try my best to sleep again, for you. I . . . thank you."
A soft sigh left her at the kiss he pressed to her forehead and a true smile tugged her lips up slightly. Even after all this time with him, kindness still gave her pause, made her tense up. But still, this feeling couldn't be denied. She'd found home in an unexpected place and this time she'd do whatever she could not to lose it.
the shadows beneath her eyes dark, ultear shot up, book she had been reading falling from their bed to the floor. she had almost succumbed to slumber, to the exhaustion that held her captive. after the nightmares she’d had last time, she promised herself she wouldn’t sleep again. it was taking a toll on her, making her weak and paranoid.
“ azu, are you asleep ? ”

@shywiind Ultear smiled slightly at the young girl. She did so for the simple reason of loving children, just as she had taken in Meredy for that reason. "Hello Wendy, it's been quite a while.
