Let me talk about The Last Jedi trailer for a bit

You guys have no idea how excited I was for this. I was not mentally prepared for what I was about to watch and I was fucking shook. I have CHILLS going through my body still.

Now imma make a list of what shook™ me, which is pretty much everything.

  • Rey. REY. I knew Rey was powerful but I didn’t know to what extent. But the scene where she maDE THE GROUND UNDERNEATH her FUCKING CRACK WHILE JUST FOCUSING ON THE FORCE HAD ME GASPING FOR AIR
  • The whole scene with the new AT-ATs in the red desert. THEY LOOK COOL AS HELL
  • The scene where they show Kylo looking out the window, the way they shot that made him look like Anakin from the back made me cry a little
  • thE COMPARISON that Luke made between Rey and Kylo. How she has the same raw power that he has. The TERRIFIED LOOK LUKE GAVE REY
  • When they showed Carrie in all her glory I started bawling
  • Kylo on the verge of tears as he’s about to blow up the ship his mom is on that I’m pretty sure he won’t go through with it (AND PEOPLE FUCKING SAY HES HEARTLESS BITCH WHERE)
  • Snoke’s opening monologue where he can be talking about either Kylo OR Rey
  • Finn and Phasma FUCKING DUELING AHAJSLAJ
  • Poe’s speech about how they’re the spark that will light the fire that will bring down the First Order. I’m really glad they didn’t kill him off in episode VII
  • The Porg
  • Kylo punching a hole in the elevator wall, destroying his helmet
  • Those weird crystal foxes
  • THEORY: They’re gonna pull a Darth Vader betraying Palpatine with Rey, Kylo and Snoke. You can’t tell me that Kylo ain’t gonna save his girlfriend Rey in that scene where Snoke is torturing her
  • And last, but not least, the scene that made me jump 10ft in the air and scream “I FUCKING KNEW IT” x100
  • You guys know what scene I’m talking about
  • REY 👏 AND 👏 KYLO 👏
  • I am shaKING AS IM TYPING THIS
  • I can’t even put it into words about how I feel
  • Kylo must be so smug right now because he was right about Rey needing a teacher
  • THIS SCENE MADE ME TRIP OVER MY TABLE AND EVERYTHING AROUND ME
  • Let it be known that I’ve shipped Reylo since the beginning

To all the people saying that that last scene was a misdirect

1) The lighting is extremely similar

2) It has already been established earlier in the trailer that Luke is afraid of Rey’s power: his fearful face, “it didn’t scare me enough then; it does now”. We assume therefore that he will not want to teach her for fear of history repeating itself (ie. Ben Solo’s fall). So it is reasonable to think that Rey would ask someone else to teach her… someone who’s already offered… *wink wink nudge nudge*

3) Just look at their faces. Rey’s all like “I should not be doing this what am I doing” and Kylo’s like “holy SHIT she actually considered it”. He looks surprised but also a bit doubtful, as if he’s not sure what he should do. In short, they look like enemies who have to warily make an alliance. It’s the first step in the enemies to lovers trope. They could be talking to someone else if it was a misdirect, but the subtleties in the acting make me think that they’re not.

4) Put this trailer in context. People were really pissed, and rightfully so, at the Jedi Finn misdirect two years ago, and also at half the shots in the trailers for Rogue One not being in the actual movie (you could argue that that happened due to problems during the production of R1, and you’d be right; but we haven’t heard if these problems with TLJ). One would hope that Lucasfilm has learned from their mistakes.

5) What would be the POINT? Misdirects are used to lead the audience into thinking something will happen to then show some kind of plot twist. Rey and Kylo creating an alliance would already be unexpected. If A) They do not create an alliance, what would be the point of making the audience think they will, when most expect them not to in the first place? And if B) They do create an alliance in the final movie and that scene in the trailer is used to manage expectations, what would be the point of ~creating~ a new scene just for the trailers… when you can just use a scene from your movie?

6) Those two shots just fit so well together. If eventually I turn out to be wrong, I’ll have to give kudos to the editors for their amazing work, because they just look seamless.

ok but real talk why is palpatine so stupid like the literal entire reason he got anakin to fall to the dark side in the first place is bc he knew anakin would betray the jedi to save his family. so like. does it really not occur to him that anakin would betray HIM to save his son? why on earth would palpatine think force-frying luke in front of vader was a good idea. he only has himself to blame for that one smh
