The sky cracks and tumbles open,

thunder echoes showers

and I am soaked up to my ankles

in warm spring rain.

It was fall then, and I thought of you –

It is spring now, and I think of you.

You, freckles and round cheeks

and painted fingers and anger

and laughter and girlish energy.

it is raining / and raining and raining, big fat drops slapping the cold glass / window panes shudder / house trembles / trees shake and sigh.

there is just not enough of you here, in this warm dark room / inside this shaking house / the wind and rain can cry that holding on to you is wrong, but they have not felt / the warmth of your arms / around me. 

they have not kissed your shoulders / they do not know our tears. 

STOAT MOON.

Full moon hangs low in the sky

Bright white like the belly of a stoat

Casting a pale glow onto the library tower –

and the lamplights make your eyes glow.

They glow like forgotten promises

and they glow like the words I’m not brave enough

to say.

Tide runs out to ocean,

beach bone dry

Vegetables dashed with knives

cutting board nicks– so little is a fry.

A wicker basket holds a sock

his other half is far away

A little boy waits and waits;

his friend no longer wants to play.

Green vines snarl up the wall

of an old house

covering it in verdant curtain–

separated are the eye and the home.

Weeds crawl across a divide.

but still

to our knees we all fell like the tree

We watched our kings and queens prepare to go

like geese to the south

like hummingbirds to the north

like wind over water.
