IDK sometimes this website makes me feel like “death of the author” is soon to be followed by “death of the text”, where subjective interpretation and wish fulfillment is all that matters, and readings with the right political capital gain acceptance on that merit alone, even totally unsupported by the work itself.

Death of the poster.

This post is actually about how sexy i am.

Doing some bible study.

This book is really fucked up.

Keep reading and ignore the fuck above me.

Actually I’m currently reading revelations. I’m about halfway. It’s reading like a drug fueled hallucination I honestly prefer genesis.

No wonder you think it’s fucked up, holy shit.  Read the middle.  Jfc.

Well that’s not why I think it’s fucked up. All the peace and love apologetics in the world won’t change why I think it’s fucked up.

Hun, you didn’t even read the book.

You don’t need to read a book to know that the Christian god is a sociopath.

Egregious claim, but I’ll ignore it because I want to ask why the fuck you’re reading the thing then if nothing will change your mind.  Why are you reading it if you hate our religion to begin with

Because I was raised Christian. Because I think it would be intellectually dishonest to criticise the Bible without having read at least some of it.

Now let me ask you something.

What would you call a man who holds you over a flame but says he won’t torture you if you promise to worship him for the rest of your life.

> What would you call a man who holds you over a flame but says he won’t torture you if you promise to worship him for the rest of your life.

God didn’t do this to us.  Now that that dumbass random ass question is out of the way, I’m gonna address the rest of your stupidity by doing this:

You literally just criticized the Bible while only admitting to reading “at least some of it” holy fuck how unselfaware are you

So what you’re saying is. Non-believers don’t go to hell?

I thought atheists gave up on that lie about us.  Yet it’s still 2017 and they still believe it.

So do non believers go to hell? Yes or no. And I’ll go from there.

I don’t answer stupid questions.  If you can’t decipher the answer from my last reblog in which I LITERALLY told you that was a lie, then that’s not my problem.

So non believers don’t go to hell?

Then what is the point of Jesus dying four our sins?

Yikes @ it taking you that long to figure out that that’s what I was saying.

> Then what is the point of Jesus dying four our sins?

So we could have eternal life and be saved from original sin?  Thought you read the book? :)

So everybody went to hell before Jesus died?

Ahhhh got it.  You’re deliberately misunderstanding me.

So they don’t go to hell either.

Se the thing is you haven’t given a single definitive statement yet so you can conveniently say I’m deliberately misunderstanding you. YOUVE SAID NOTHING!

Now you’ve implied that non believers don’t go to hell Believers don’t go to hell And people who died before original sin was removed don’t go to hell.

THEN NOBODY GOES TO HELL! Origional sin has no meaning and Jesus died for nothing.

Now you can remedy this by giving a single conclusive statement but I get the sense you won’t do that simply for the reason it stops you from saying that I misunderstood you every time I open my fucking mouth.

> YOUVE SAID NOTHING!

Nice projector.  Can you play silent movies on it?

>Now you’ve implied that non believers don’t go to hell Believers don’t go to hell And people who died before original sin was removed don’t go to hell. THEN NOBODY GOES TO HELL! Origional sin has no meaning and Jesus died for nothing.

Holy fucking yikes and I thought I was bad at math.

> I misunderstood you every time I open my fucking mouth.

You have though.

> Now you can remedy this by giving a single conclusive statement

I have.  Again, not my problem you can’t read.

And not a single concrete statement on what you believe was made.

Not one.

Literally nothing.

You’ve got absolutely no substance to anything you say. It’s almost incredible if it wasn’t so trivial and annoying.

I’m gonna ask why you think God is a sociopath or that god a ethereal being can be heald to our mental health standards

The only thing I can think off the top of my head was the whole “ hey kill your son wait dont kill him I just wanted to see if you do it” also remember this was thousands of years ago

God: Kill your son for me.

Abraham: K.

Abraham: *ties Issac to an alter and prepares to kill him*

God: Lol j/k. You don’t have to, but now you know I’m not fucking around, right?

Abraham: Lol God ur so funny.

Issac: -_-

Wait the question is which one are we talking about because if it’s The Old Testament that is so fucked up I can’t even. My mom always told me that is the one you should really read lol

The OT is wild.

@ikkinthekitsune I think you might have something to say on the matter.

I always view the Old Testement as what God was like before he had kids and then once he became a dad, he mellowed out and had to revise the whole thing.

Technically, since God exists outside of time, it doesn’t really make sense to say that He changed.  Instead, the idea is that the thing that changes is the relationship between humanity and God from the human side, with God’s true nature becoming more recognizable as humanity is better able to understand Him.

A mom with a two-year-old, a twelve-year-old, and a twenty-year-old would relate to each of her children in very different ways, right?  So why wouldn’t God relate in different ways to a man who had just left a pagan society (Abraham), a loose confederation of herdsmen who saw gods as superhuman patrons to propitiate (the tribes of Israel circa the Exodus), an expanding agricultural power with a bad habit of syncretism (Israel in the land of Canaan), the faithful monotheistic remnants of a broken nation dealing with a painful captivity and its aftermath (the Jewish people in and after the Babylonian Captivity), the oppressed subjects of an empire in which philosophy had begun to take root (the Jewish people under Roman occupation and early Christians in general), and our own world, which has made significant steps to understanding human psychology and the laws of nature?

It’s easy to fall into the trap of assuming that people who lived thousands of years ago could be taught modern concepts without much of a problem.  It’s even kind of understandable, since attempting to teach peoples in roughly equivalent cultures nowadays is clearly not impossible.  The problem is, of course, that we have the advantage of being able to point to billions of people who live more comfortably because of our modern concepts, whereas people thousands of years ago would look around them and see nothing but temptations to backslide.

So it’s worth considering two things whenever a narrative included in the Bible talks about God doing something that sounds completely repugnant to modern sensibilities.  First, what is the cultural context within which God is acting?  And second, within that cultural context, what lesson does God intend to teach?

If one assumes that Abraham had been raised in a culture that practiced child sacrifice, for instance, the binding of Isaac makes a lot more sense – God would have been using the form of an existing ritual to subvert that ritual, making it clear that it’s obedience that He values rather than blood and that He has absolutely no interest in the sacrifice of human beings.  (And, in a Christian sense, it has the secondary effect of saying, “I will sacrifice far more for you than I have ever demanded from you.”)

The Old Testament also makes a habit of attributing literally everything to God, which makes a certain amount of sense in the context of trying to teach a people that believes that everything happens at the whims of a slew of gods and spirits that there’s a single, omnipotent Creator whose laws bind the entire world.  It’s not even wrong, necessarily, just lacking in nuance – the New Testament affirms that God the Son is Logos, the ordering principle through which the universe exists and according to which the universe operates, even as it makes it clear that God desires the salvation of everyone.  So there’s no reason why God couldn’t honestly use, say, disasters that arose spontaneously from the laws of nature to convince his chosen people – who would be expecting an anthropomorphized warrior god rather than a force of nature – of His power, because the laws of nature are a manifestation of His power.  (I’ve seen possible physical causes suggested for the Ten Plagues, the splitting of the Red Sea/Sea of Reeds, the splitting of the Jordan River, and the destruction of Jericho’s walls, for instance, which doesn’t so much remove the miraculous element as shift it to the incredible coincidence of multiple such events happening for the benefit of the same people at a specified time.)

It’s also worth pointing out that the values of ours that make Old Testament narratives seem so repugnant are often New Testament (or sometimes even late Old Testament) values – love your enemy, the despised “other” is your neighbor, salvation is personal, disasters aren’t divine judgment, blood sacrifice is ugly, mercy towards others matters far more than ritual – and such values only function in the context of a God who has chosen to make Himself supremely vulnerable.  While 1st century Judea and the Hellenized culture of the surrounding Roman Empire might have been in a position to understand and build on such a revelation, however, a supremely vulnerable omnipotent God probably would have made no sense at all to earlier cultures.  As such, it only makes sense that God would have allowed earlier cultures to interpret His revealed nature in light of what they needed Him to be in the context in which they lived, knowing that a full revelation would eventually serve to subvert such interpretations.

TL;DR, progressive revelation is a thing, and the Bible makes a million times more sense when cultural context is taken into account.

I actually went looking for this post because it reminded me that i used to be a very cringy reddit athiest.

Truly to go back in time and smack myself on the head would be very cathartic.

Every single person in this post is a fucking lunatic

Yet another post that reads like four shakespeare characters who come out in the middle of the play to talk about something completely unrelated for comic relief

(Enter RADISHN’T, MOTHMAN MISATO, BOIMG FROG and CATS'N RAINCOATS, stage left. They are having a HEATED DISCUSSION.)

RADISHN’T: Prithee, which one of you had planned to tell

Of diff'rent flavours gained by simple act

Of brewing tea with water hot, not cold?

MOTHMAN: Egad! you poured the water cold? Wherefore?!

FROG: An answer from you, Radish, I must beg.

RADISHN’T: Indeed I did, dear friends - why does this shock?

Without the guide of others I assumed

That heat was merely added for the sake

Of expediting this solution’s brewing!

Half a decade I have spent, or more,

Not questioning this worldview I had made.

In fact, I am myself a bit surprised

That you might think that I, your dearest friend,

Might have a patience of sufficient stock

To wait until a pot of water boils.

FROG: Three minutes overtaxes patience so?

The microwave will beep when it is done!

CATS'N: My friend, this answer vexes me the more!

Can it be true that thou dost boil by nuke?!

FROG: Are you in turn, my friend, so shocked to know

That I have not the patience, like our Root,

To boil upon the stove our favour’d drink?

CATS'N: It takes less than a minute!

FROG: On what plate?

Perhaps your dinner cooks atop the sun?

CATS'N: How long can take your stove to fill the task

Of boiling but a single cup alone?

FROG: In minutes?

CATS'N: Yes!

FROG: I counted seven, once.

CATS'N: Perhaps you ought to have your timepiece checked!

If on a middle heat you place the cup

You soon will have the scalding drink you crave.

Two minutes, in a mug upon the plate

Or even less, if you should have a pot.

FROG: You cause me tears - is this how thou dost live?

You place upon the iron stove a mug?

A mug, ceramic, filled with water cold?

How do these flames, though medium in height,

Not shatter like a glass this fragile thing?

Surely, then, your kitchen is bewitched

With magicks far beyond the mortal ken!

(The FOUR realise they have wandered into the THRONE ROOM. The ROYAL COURT watches with fascination.)

KING: Ev'ry single person in this group must be a fucking lunatic, it seems.

Tried watching Sarah Z's video on Oppa Homeless Style and it was really dumb and one-sided

Everything anti-SJWs did, SJWs did too

Like, don't fool yourself

I was a feminist myself and unlike her I was an adult and actually remember shit about early 10s. I used to rally behind Anita Sarkeesian, for fucks sake.

oh yeah I remember watching that video in May, because people kept bringing it up in my notes

I think she tried to claim (or said something that sounded like it) that I'm a machination of the Oppa Homeless Style reddit guy

No, not you, but she did mention you two times as an example of fake Tumblr anti-SJW story... not realizing that it was a parody already.

ah right

the people in my notes seemed to think that she said I was a reddit fake iirc

I assume she got the facts wrong because she didn't inquire further than the KYM article, which I think hasn't been updated since 2015 or something

That's because literally every single story she brought up but yours and one other one were reddit fakes by one anti-SJW tryhard

And then she went off on a tirade about anti-SJWs in general for the rest of the video

Like, the war is over, what are you even on anymore about, nobody watches Sargon anymore

Actually sargons current operation is quite successful. Doing well in the youtube algorythm

When the fuck did you get back to Tumblr, you scared the shit out of me

What content is he even doing anymore?

I poke my little head in every now and again but almost never post.

He runs the podcast of the lotus eaters. Theres a few of them on it. And they post 2 or 3 20 minute videos a day. They made three today and they got like 70k veiws. And those were uploaded 2, 5 and 8 hours ago.

I mean i dont watch it but it seems like hes made bitesize talk videos with regular guests and its going well for him.

How do you justify killing and eating animals?

Is it because they are 'inferior'? But what is this inferiority based in?

That they are 'less capable'? Animals aren't destroying the only planet they inhabit, we are. Just because they can't do some things we can doesn't mean they are "inferior". We cannot do a lot of things that animals can.

But, even if we agree that they are inferior, is it justified to exploit the ones that are less capable than us? Is capability the defining factor in who gets to live and who doesn't?

"Yeah, so the CDC updated their Covid numbers this week . . . quietly of course so as not to draw attention to the massive way they just deceived America. Maybe they hoped we wouldn’t notice?

Turns out only 6% of the 153,504 deaths they initially reported actually died of Covid. That’s 9,210 Covid deaths.

That leaves 94% of the deaths with multiple other causes of death and other serious illnesses listed, 90% of them in nursing homes with advanced age.

90%.

This is an information war and we are a disorganized truth fighting an organized lie.

Man, even if you give them the respiratory failure/respiratory arrest and pneumonia numbers - people develop pneumonia from other respiratory infections, that could’ve been caused by covid, sure. But look at the other “conditions contributing to deaths where COVID-19 was listed on the death certificate”s listed. Heart failure? Sepsis? Malignant neoplasms (read: cancer)? Alzheimers? Fuckin intentional and unintentional injury and poisoning? Come the fuck on.

But what is to gain from inflating the Covid deaths? I understand the gain from downplaying them, but what is to gain from inflating them? Is it so hospitals will get more money?

Avatar

Fearmongering and additional excuses to inflate the state and take away your rights.

But the real threat of covid isn't death, it's the long term damage it does to your body

Which is the same as any other pneumonia

The infection rates are much higher, iirc

Govts expansion has been happening for years, the pandemic just sped it up, but preventative measures (masks in crowds, general distancing) are still good regardless of a pandemic

Never let a good tragedy to waste

No lessons learned in the wake of 9/11

This is something weird for me to talk about because i have almost no recollection of pre-9/11 society (it happened just under a month before my second birthday)

Sure... air travel security was lax before and needed shaping up. But the actions of the government and the way they went about things was super shady.

I imagine itll be the same thing with covid.
