BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., (February 28, 2017) - Netflix today releases the trailer and confirms a March 17th launch date for its new original documentary series Betrayal: Bucky Barnes at 100.
Following the shocking revelation that Sergeant James Buchanan ‘Bucky’ Barnes did not die in Switzerland in 1945 as long believed, Betrayal: Bucky Barnes at 100 assembles a group of experts to analyze and disseminate the revelation that Captain America’s loyal sidekick is, and perhaps always was, an operative of the secret Nazi science division, HYDRA.
Working with leading historians and political analysts, Betrayal: Bucky Barnes at 100, Directed by Clarissa Carter, grand-niece of S.H.I.E.L.D founder Margret Carter and written by Duncan Jones, grandson of Howling Commando Gabriel Jones, Betrayal: Bucky Barnes at 100 attempts to piece together the tragic and bloody timeline of the man now known the world over as ‘The Winter Soldier’.
Combining never before aired interviews with those who knew Barnes best with on the ground reactions from those now scrambling to uncover the truth from the wreckage that once was S.H.I.E.L.D. Oscar-nominated Channing Tatum provides the narration for Betrayal: Bucky Barnes at 100.
“Barnes’s impact on modern history is unmatched,” says Clarissa Carter. ‘If even a third of the crimes he has been accused of committing are true, we looking at someone who has completely shaped the geopolitical climate of the world for nearly fifty years.” “It raises the question,” adds Duncan Jones, “what happened to Barnes after he fell? Already a HYDRA agent, did he return to his handlers in Austria? Or was he captured while still loyal to the United States? You’re either looking at the greatest criminal of the modern age, or the world’s longest suffering POW.”
“Betrayal: Bucky Barnes at 100 is a wholly immersive journey throughout the last century. The filmmakers have unprecedented connections with those involved in Barnes’s case, giving us a rare vantage and even rarer access to some of the darkest and most secretive moments of American history,” says Norman Jackson, Netflix VP of Original Documentary Programming.
In conjunction with the launch of Betrayal: Bucky Barnes at 100, Netflix will also present five documentaries discussed in the series, including Scott Sinclair’s ‘The Howling Commandos’, Walter King’s ‘Welcome Back, Cap’ and David Davis’s ‘In The Hands of HYDRA’.
Directed by Clarissa Carter and Written by Duncan Jones, Betrayal: Bucky Barnes at 100 is an OffShoot Films, StarCity Television, and JJPB Production, in association with POP!
