The elevators in Arasaka tower were wide enough to hold a crowd of people, but Adam still had to duck when he entered, and by the time the previous occupants of the car had hastily cleared out, the doors were eager to close behind him. This time something caught them. He turned around to find Hanako’s pet prettyboy stepping in with his usual lemon-sucking expression.
“The fuck do you want?” he grumbled, shifting his weight and feeling the car shift slightly with him.
The whelp was unfazed. “The security for the parade is insufficient. Hanako-sama–”
“You think her brother would put her at risk?” Adam interrupted, leaning in. The kid had spine enough not to be frightened, but he was still trying to keep his polite little veneer. Worthless. Every time he left the side of his princess, he left behind an entire contubernium of men behind. Maybe he thought he could cover his ass, but all Adam could see was the exact flesh and blood price of his service. A steep price for a fancy suit who still had to eat and shit and sleep.
“If you’re so worried about her, maybe you should stay by her side instead of bothering me,” he added, pulling his mandible into a mocking imitation of his old smile. The whelp was furious, but he became distracted by the doors opening behind him, and then Adam unsubtly boxing him out. “Now be a good dog, and run along home.”
