Nagisa Kaworu Analysis Superpost

Kaworu’s a fairly enigmatic character both in-universe and Eva’s fandom circles. He does, however have a lot of subtleties which can be easily overlooked by any viewer. This page is a gigantic guide to his character from the anime, the Rebuilds, as well as the games, official and unofficial manga. It also delves into his relationships with other characters (Shinji, Rei, and Asuka). As such it addresses common as well as subtle points of his character and common misconceptions. The pages that aren’t boldfaced are personal analyses I’ve made over the years. Others, marked in bold, belong to others. I’ve also made warnings to the respective links as well.

Inspired by cemeterything's platonic dynamics of Kaworu and Asuka.

On one end, I like the idea that Asuka's disdain for Kaworu derives in the fact that he seems simply 'better.' This ties into a fear of being replaced. On another imagine Kaworu being taught by Asuka. He isn't good at everything. He understands things like interactions, of boundaries, on paper. It gives him a more vulnerable angle. That this quasi-god being capable of ending everyone and everything should he will it is capable of not being good at something. Kaworu finds these interactions beneficial due to his inquisitive and curious nature. Asuka doesn't feel that need to be number 1. She sheds it if for a moment. At that very second she realizes, you don't need to be good at everything. All you need are people that see your for your worth and hardly mind the rough edges.

They don't even have to be friends, either. They could be acquaintances on good terms. They're a bit vulnerable in the extent that they're both figuring things out. Figuring out their people and who they want to surround themselves with. And that's alright.
