As a biologist I am reblogging this so hard.
Biological sex is not and has never been a binary. The complexity of the natural world cannot be contained in neat little societal boxes. Stop using science to justify your bigotry.
Humanity keep learning that the world is so much more complex than they originally thought… except human gender and sex, apparently.
I had a biology teacher put a bunch of small boxes on a table with neat labels on them.
He explained that this is what humans always want to do. Put everything in neat little boxes with neat little labels because that’s how our brain works.
Then he went and pushed everything harshly off the table and said: “Meanwhile, this is what biology (and nature) actually is. There aren’t any little boxes with neat little labels, every time we think we have something figured out, something else comes up that makes everything null and void. This is the nature of science.”
This is why, in Thesis, when you’re referencing previous articles in your work, they can’t be older than 10 years, although other specialties are more strict with 5 years. My degree, which is in Environmental Science, let me get away with 10 years, but the more recent, the better.
