TROYE SIVAN ‘ANGEL BABY’

in his recent interview for his latest film, "three months", troye sivan voiced his opinions on casting non-queer actors for queer character roles.

"[....] i would never say to someone, 'don't do it', like you know, a straight actor playing a queer role. i would say, though, to the people who are casting the role, have you really looked? like, why are you casting that person? you know what i mean like, because i think that there's so much queer talent. i find it very, very, very hard to believe that there wasn't anybody who could play this role while being something that could be life-changing for someone to watch at home. you know what i mean like, when they see themselves on the screen in a real way, it makes a big difference. [....] it's much more exciting to me when i feel like it's coming from a really authentic place where the person can pull in the performance from real-life experiences and when they really really connect or we can understand that experience."

i just think this deserves a much larger platform for agreement and approval.

purposely choosing to ignore current events about the murder of black lives, for the sake of not wanting to see any “negativity” is so fucking stupid. blocking that out doesn’t make your fantasy bubble dreamy, it only shows willful ignorance and/or being blinded by your own privilege. that also goes for those who say police brutality is an american problem and it doesn’t affect them— the lack of sympathy is truly telling and anti-blackness exists everywhere so that’s relevant. if you’re present on social media, i guarantee you’re just one click away from at least knowing what the hell is going on. it’s so important these days since misinformation spreads like wildfire.
