For years, I have wondered what a fish swimming in microgravity would look like. Finally, my curiosity has been rewarded. Here is a sphere of water in microgravity, complete with a fish. Personally, I am impressed that, despite the fish’s best efforts, the surface tension of the water is strong enough to keep it confined. This may not bode well for microgravity swimming pools at space hotels. (Video credit: IRPI LLC, source)

Here is a wall made of sticks I picked up in the forest, tied together with strands of my own hair. When the seeds I planted grow into vines, the walls will be strong.

There is a window. It's ugly. Hastily put back together with superglue and bloody hands, it has lost its transparency. The light streams in a little too warm, a little too red.

I was born to be green, but I do good work in red.

You try not to look too close at these broken boundaries as you ask if it's your fault.

What am I supposed to say? Should I answer you before my walls are done?

Feel like I should mention that the “having sex” part of the relationship has to be proven in court, which is often humiliationg and causes people to face ostracisation and violence afterwards.

By stating that only emotional and affilial importance is a requirement for the life insurance, they’ve said that gender, sexual orientation, etc. are not required to be revealed at court to prove you are in a relationship. And that’s the reason aphobes oppose us being in the queer community, if they can make a negative response to doing something have severe consequences, they can also make not wanting to reveal information also have those consequences. The ace community is an umbrella for various justifications beyond “not having a sex drive” and can shield closeted folks. Have solidarity with asexuals, for fucks sake.

Last week there was a court case in Sweden that was brought forward entirely thanks to aphobia and luckily was resolved by the Swedish court recognising Queer Platonic Relationships (QPRs). So there is a thread explaining what happened: :thread emoji:¨

Two women lived together on a farm, had shared finances and for all intents and purposes were in a relationship. Some perceived the pair as merely friends while others saw them as a couple.

In 2018 one of the women died and this is where the aphobia comes in 2/

The woman who died had life insurance and the payout was designed to go to her husband/partner or cohabitant/secondary relatives. This ignited a debate between the woman's family and the woman she had been living with as to who was entitled to the compensation 3/

Both sides agreed that the women were living together at the time of death, the disagreement was based on whether they met the definition of a partnership. The family argued that there were just friends as the women didn't have sex and therefore couldn't be partners. 4/

Swedish law states that 'a relationship means that the persons shall live together in a relationship where sexual cohabitation is normally included'. The supreme court said that this statement does not mandate how it should be in the individual cohabitation relationship. 5/

They instead said that the law indicates that the relationship should be at an emotional level where sex is usually part of similar relationships but isn't a requirement. Therefore cohabitation can be determined on other factors, regardless of whether a couple are having sex. 6/

They said that 'of importance in the assessment is whether there is a special affiliation and trust between the people and a willingness to share life together that is similar to what usually exists between those who choose to marry each other.' 7/

This meant that the court deemed that the women were in a relationship and that the other woman should receive the payout. This is huge as far as asexual awareness is considered, most countries have laws that penalize partners in sexless marriages. 8/

It is a massive step towards recognition for QPRs and normalising the idea that significant relationships without sex can occur. There is the original article if you want to read more:

This is so weird- It looks like they made a bathroom, cut off half the stairs and blocked them to put up a wall and a door, then removed the stairs from the door above. What a reconfiguration.

Okay but this is only allowed if it's a living tree; if where it breaks through the ceiling is covered by leaves and branches on the other side, having a living friend with roots and leaves in the house sounds amazing, if you're not a coward just putting a massacred trunk there.

The fact that Mark Cuban can do this is just further proof of how much capatalism is f*cking people over.

Billionaire investor Mark Cuban launched an online pharmacy Thursday that offers more than 100 generic drugs at an affordable price with a goal of being “radically transparent” in its price negotiations with drug companies.

For example, the leukemia drug imatinib is priced at $47 a month on MCCPDC compared to the $9,657 retail price.

The online pharmacy’s prices for generics factor in a 15% margin on top of actual manufacturer prices and a $3 pharmacist fee, the statement said.

PLEASE SPREAD THIS INFO

yes this is pretty unbelievable right now—but just look at the replies and reblogs of this post—look at all these people on twitter talking about their own experiences with it now too—this is actually real

and yes everyone is waiting for a catch, but remember it is a PRIVILEGE to think about not sharing this information out of spite for billionaires rather than needing this opportunity regardless of how long it lasts or if mark cuban is doing this for his own gain

so please share. thanks

How to stop getting angry at people on the internet: instead of feeling rage and adding fuel to the fire by lashing out at someone, just block them and move on. Don't hold on to the comment, to the message, delete it! And then watch a cute video. Disable comments. Disable anon. None of those things make you seem weak. You don't have to take anything "because this is the internet" or "because you put yourself out there". Honestly people can talk a lot about how important it is to be nice but people will always be rude, even when they are good people, even when they don't want to be rude. It's better to block than to hold to that anger and keep mulling it over

really really tired and mad at lower support needs autistic & speaking autistic (autistics who speak most of the time) stealing terms & space meant for higher support needs autistics & semi/nonspeaking autistics

higher support needs autistic & semi/nonspeaking autistics deserve words and space for us

not everything has to be about you!! not everything is about you

there is difference between being ignored and being decentered

you can be marginalized without being most marginalized

you can be marginalized while not being marginalized in other areas

autistic community should be for all autistics not just palatable autistics useful autistics acceptable autistics

@five-thousand-loaves-of-bread Hi! Would you mind elaborating on some of the ways lower support needing autistic people may steal terms or spaces not intended for them?

@foxyatlas & @birdycrow anyone in the comments: hi thank you for question!! i also link past posts written by me or other autistics to borrow words. so sorry long post. n sorry i tired after writing so no tldr. tone control is difficult but i’m not mad at you asking question.

the loudest voice & most visible members in autistic community are white, lower support needs, mostly speaking, late diagnosed autistics. they dominate the actually autistic movement. they definitely deserve to be in the community and advocacy but many of their world view of autism end at their version of autism, and because they are most visible, talks abt autism kind of ends at their version of autism. they say "this is what autism is like" and only include how they experience autism. their autism is one experience of autism but not the only experience of autism.

they say functioning label and severity label always bad. they say no one allowed to use them. i agree & admit being forcibly labeled high low functioning bad, but many lower support needs autistic ignore nuance. many semi/nonspeaking and/or higher support needs autistic have trouble with language and some (not all) find functioning labels & severity labels easier to use than having to explain entire support needs (link).

they say no one is high functioning no one is low functioning. act like all autistics are similar and by similar they mean like them (mostly speaking but loses speech at times, white, lower support, etc). they say "autism is not a monolith" and "if you met one autistic person, you met one autistic person," but then say low functioning high functioning all the same. but lower support needs autistic person who can live independently and hold down job (often at great harm to mental health) different from higher support needs autistic person who needs carer part-time or full time & autistic person who can't live independently. is important difference. differences should be okay to admit. having different levels of support needs lead to having different experiences. (link)

and yes dichotomy is simplification (i talk about it here: link). but there exists autistics who can't live independently, who needs help with basic ADLs like dressing feeding grooming, who is incontinent, who cannot mask and so act stereotypically autistic, so on. we are not "just stereotypes." but many lower support needs autistics say people like us don't exist. that depictions of people like that is ableist/infantizing stereotypes to make autistics look bad. that we are bad representation (fictional high support needs autistic can be bad representation but the reason for calling them bad rep should not be bc they are high support needs).

also frequently hear lower support needs autistic and/or speaking autistics say that because they have bad days where they can't be independent, they understand what it's like to be higher support all the time. or that because they lose speech sometimes, they understand what it's like to be nonspeaking all the time. and because of that, they can speak for higher support needs autistics and/or semi/nonspeaking autistics. but not the same. if your bad day looks like our good day then we not the same. lower support needs autistic experience valid and their struggle valid and should get to talk about it but need to learn to talk about it without speaking over or speaking for high support autistics. better explained here (link) (link).

and i think people have different definitions of low/medium/high support. like some people say they high support but they can hold job & live relatively independently. while most of my high/higher support needs friends say they high support because they cannot live alone and if left alone they danger to self. i don’t think this by itself is necessarily “steal” per se but it does confuses me very much. i don’t know the lives of other people so i don’t like saying this specific person they’re not high support. but general phenomenon i see is, particularly people who can live independently etc, in their definition of support needs levels, they don’t include people who can’t live independently, do basic ADLs independently, need help & supervision constantly, have trouble communicating needs, etc. and so even if they don’t mean to, they still erase us and speak over us. we are not acknowledged & many ppl who can live independently don’t even know or remember we exist. it hurt. (link)

another thing i see is people say “go nonverbal” & nonverbal episodes and stuff when talking about losing speech temporarily or selective/situational mutism. someone in comments say this just is different definitions and misuse words and not steal. and this by itself without other contexts i agree. but i say steal when “going nonverbal” or losing speech becomes the only discussion of speech difficulties in autistic community. or when topic is about being nonspeaking/nonverbal and people derail and focus only on “going nonverbal.” or say because they lose speech temporarily they know what it’s like to be non/semispeaking all the time and can speak for non/semispeaking autistics. happens more often than you think. (can be nonspeaking all the time but also can be semispeaking all the time. can have speech language difficulty all the time and only speak few things.)

i can count with one hand the number of times i see people who are not nonspeaking/semispeaking talk about non/semispeaking beyond a one sentence mention.

not all lower support needs autistic do all these. but some lower support needs autistic very aggressive about it. i say “steal” because i see people aggressive. others may not be aggressive about it but they don’t listen to more marginalized autistics. may reblog posts by us when one of us conveniently get on dashboard but don’t really intentionally listen to us uplift us and include us.

meet enough people like this to make generalize post even though know not every single lower support needs autistic is like this.

thank you for question! hope i make sense
