Last Wednesday, FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler announced a proposal for new rules that would allow for a “ fast lane” of Internet traffic for content providers who are willing (and able) to pay a fee. [1] The proposal reverses the FCC’s previous commitment to net neutrality and open internet and allows ISP’s like Comcast or Verizon to slow down and censor services that don’t pay the toll.

We have to be totally honest, this situation is seriously grim. But there is still hope. The FCC already knows that the Internet community wants net neutrality, but they think they can put their spin on these new rules and sneak them through. If we can prove them wrong right now with a massive public outcry, we can literally save the Internet once again.

We need to stop the FCC now. Big business groups are already ramping up lobbying efforts with the FCC in swarms since Wednesday’s announcement in support of censoring the open Internet and to ensure this dangerous proposal moves forward. [2]

This is a critical moment. In the last few weeks more than 65,000 people have taken action with us. Can you help us get to 80,000 by the end of the day today?

I’ve been following this cause since last year.  I’ve signed petitions, I’ve called representatives, I’ve been to protests, the whole nine yards.

I’m making a formal text post for @sandy-sims because what I want to say here probably won’t fit in a single ask. Most of you probably know that Sandy’s been having an incredibly hard time lately both outside and inside tumblr, and even though I don’t really like posting about anything outside my gameplay, this deserves an exception.

This isn’t exclusive to the simblr community; fandom in this website is an absolute joke. People are regularly hounded and abused off this hellhole of a website and at this point it’s impossible to just join up to have a good time. I’m not going to point the finger at any one demographic, but it isn’t difficult to be nice to others, and if you choose to be needlessly cruel to others than you’re either too young or immature to be here.

Sandy joined us to publish her Finding Marley story; it was a big hit because it was different and so painstakingly crafted. Each scene was obviously constructed with effort and care and edited the same way. People enjoy the things she makes, which is why she’s become so popular, and I’m glad she’s gotten as popular as she has because each of her posts are beautiful and personally I don’t know what I’d do without them. She isn’t “worshipped” in any way shape or form, so drop the fucking buzzwords. People recognise that she is talented and kind, and are kind to her in return. Funny how that works, right? Almost like being nice attracts nice people. I’ve known Sandy and have been following her for a long time and not ONCE has she been anything other than overwhelmingly kind and positive. She doesn’t owe anybody here anything - she isn’t posting FOR us, we just happen to be lucky enough to have her share her story with us. So remember that. Nobody on here is obliged to “make you things”, stories or cc or whatever.

People post personal things, too, because our blogs are personal platforms. Sometimes we need places to talk about things or to explain why things are happening. Sandy is in a bad place right now so is it really that seul to see her post about it????? These situations are powerful, but anon haters are typically pathetic and cushy, so I suppose they wouldn’t know. Either way, it’s not rocket science to skip over a personal post every now and again. Plus, I actually like hearing about Sandy’s life!!!! She’s as interesting as she is kind and I think she’s so so brave for putting up with all of this. This isn’t the first time she’s been harassed and it won’t be the last, because this place is filled with self-important little toddlers who have nothing better to do than send nasty things to kind people.

Anon hate hurts, yknow. It does. Even if it’s one or two messages - they can make all the difference. Doubly so when someone is made vulnerable by stress and their life outside this website, which Sandy currently is. So 10 points to anons for being cowards; I’d love to see them not hiding behind that anon button.

But I just want to say that I appreciate Sandy for everything she is and everything she does, stressed or not, no matter what. This isn’t me kissing her ass, either - it’s the cold hard truth. She is sweet and talented and impossibly tolerant, all of which are qualities we need far more of. She’s one of my biggest inspiration, as well as the inspiration of many many more simmers besides myself. She matters and despite the faceless cowards in her inbox, she is loved.

You are loved, Sandy. Never forget that.
