Blind Sided

@rkchoutzuyu

Jaemin is a serial flirt. It’s always been a part of his way for getting things to go his way. Most people like to be showered with attention and Jaemin tends to use that to his advantage. While his flirting isn’t necessarily the conventional Prince Charming style, his doting compliments and teasing at least make people crack a smile, which leads to them opening up to him. In high school, this helped him get some of the nerds help him with his homework by going on a study “date.” However, as soon as the other person tries to take the carefree flirting a step further, Jaemin immediately becomes cold. He doesn’t understand himself well enough to really understand what he wants in a relationship.

That doesn’t stop him from going on a date or two though! When his friend suggested that he go on a blind date with a girl named Tzuyu, Jaemin accepted quickly. Dates are an excuse for food and conversation, two of his favorite things. However, it’s been awhile since he’s been on a date and when he thinks about the dates he’s been on, they never were explicitly called that. As the date got closer, his hands started to sweat from nerves and he would overthink about all of the different scenarios that could play out. He knew that nothing serious was going to happen but he still couldn’t help but shiver when he thought more about being at a dinner on a blind date. It seems like a formal venue compared to his library or coffee shop dates.

As he stands outside the restaurant that he was to meet the mysterious Tzuyu, he fumbles for his phone. He scrolls to the text from the mutual friend, reanalyzing the instructions. Positive that he’s at the right place, he shoots a text to the number his friend provided him. Not sure what to write, he simply types “Hey, it’s Jaemin. I’m here,” and shoves his phone into his pocket. He looks around, when he hears a phone buzz close by. His head snaps to the spot; a girl is checking her phone. After taking a long deep breath in and out, Jaemin puts on a fake confident smile and approaches her. “Hey, I’m Jaemin. Are you Tzuyu?”

It had been months! Almost 3 months to be exact and while she got texts here and there from Sakura, it was not a long lasting conversation and she hadn’t seen the girl. They hadn’t met since her birthday in June. Tzuyu had told herself since putting her idol dreams on hold that she was going to try out college and dating and other normal things. Sakura didn’t seem like a possibility for her since she became a trainee-she wasn’t even sure her best friend felt that way about her, anyway. That’s why she took a chance with a blind date when her college friends asked to set her up. What was there to lose? Maybe she’d meet someone amazing that she could date for a while-she had no idea what it was like to date anyone. This was a good thing, she told herself.

When the big day came, she was so nervous. She was wearing things that were unusual for her. Tzuyu’s style being very pastel and girly. Her red halter top and skinny jeans were much more mature. Her makeup was very neutral except for the soft coral lip color. Tzuyu used her phone’s camera as a mirror for the tenth time. She was standing by the door of the restaurant much too early. Every time someone passed she looked up to check if it was her blind date. How would she even know if it was him if she’d never met him before. Her friends had given him her phone number but her phone remained unringing.

Finally, when their meeting time was about two minutes away, her phone buzzes in her hand. Who said a watched phone never rings? It’s Jaemin and he says he’s there. Before she has the chance to look around for him. Tzuyu smiles at him and nods. “I’m Tzuyu, nice to meet you.” she speaks back normally, like she would anyone else. She is, however, hyper aware of the hammering in her chest. As they head inside, Tzuyu takes in his looks. Jaemin was handsome and they were about the same height but she wasn’t bothered by it (though she was very glad she’d worn heels). The thought that he might be put off by her height made her blush a bit.

It was as the hostess led them to a table that Tzuyu realized she had no idea how the experience was supposed to go. After all, she’d only seen dates in movies and dramas and there was usually some kind of spark where the main character felt incredibly into her date. Jaemin was very handsome, no doubt, so maybe the feeling would come later. “ I’ve never done this before. You’ll have to lead the way.” she admits as they take their seats. Men liked taking the lead, anyway, right?

Following the girl suit, Lily also took a seat, interested to spend time together even when both of them would be engrossed in their own piece of literature. To have a potential companion like that sounded beyond thrilling to the studious girl. Reading for entertainment was after all so much more fun if you had someone that could relate to your enthusiasm about a couple hundred pages framed in a thick cover. Placing her notebook aside and reaching for the newest work which had caught her interest she open her book with no hesitation, ready to get lost between the pages.
Only when the girl speaks again does she break her concentration to look up, shaking her head in denial. Please. If you feel confident and comfortable in your own zone, you should never force yourself to progress. Only when you really feel up for it should you really indulge on that journey, in my opinion, muttering the last part she was threatening to get lost in the story again but a phrase in the book made her remember that she had left something unanswered which Tzuyu had said. Oh- I’m fine with taking the book home though! We can do that as well.

Even though they spoke here and there, the best part of the day was that they were sitting together, both enjoying their own book and getting lost in some other world. It was quite interesting to be in the same place while also in different worlds. Tzuyu looks up after a little while and looks through her pile. She pulls out ‘The Lucky one’ and holds it out for Lily. “You should take this one.” she says and stacks away her own, making sure to dog ear the page she was on.

“I’m sorry to leave already but let’s exchange numbers so we can meet back here and give our thoughts.” she says, already pulling out her phone and showing her kakao ID to the other girl. She hadn’t agreed but Tzuyu didn’t think that she wouldn’t after they bonded so well over their love of reading.

they must look an odd pair, yein thinks, as tzuyu practically has to pull her along to get to the food truck she pointed out. blue and yellow, alice and mimikyu. they’re both cute though, so yein doesn’t mind that they don’t match … and the colours are complimentary. the staff or down on their luck drama students they’re paying to run around the event as zombies probably don’t care that they don’t match either. she wonders if they’re paying the staff commission per number of bands they turn in at the end of the night.
“uh, yeah,” yein says, though she’s not too sure. there’s space for breathing room for at least herself, and she’s only just met tzuyu. she could hide in there and leave the other to get eaten by the dog-zombies, but even yein’s not that mean, not when she owes somebody for something, and tzuyu’s been dragging her ass around for the last however many minutes. with faux confidence, yein slips into the space, and finds it goes deeper than it seemed from the outside, leaving plenty of room for tzuyu to slip in beside her. “no, yeah, for sure we can fit. come on.”
once they’re both in, the wait begins. maybe yein didn’t think about this as hard as she should have, being stuck in a tight space with someone she barely knew. she can’t blame herself though, even a slightly awkward situation like this beats having to keep running in her heels.
“how long do you think we should wait for? like how long until the ones chasing us find new victims? … a minute or two?”

Tzuyu slips into the tight space and tries to rest against one of the surfaces around them. She leaned her head back and closed her eyes for a second, catching her breath. She’s completely unaware of the awkwardness from the other girl. She didn’t find it weird and for some reason she was way too invested in pretending for that night. It was interesting but now they were safe. She hears the other girl speak and perks up. “I’m not sure” she responds.

She brings herself away from the wall and then peeks out trying to see if they’re safe. It seemed like they were. Tzuyu shrugs and looks over her shoulder at Yein. “I suppose we could get out now. These people don’t seem to be getting paid to stick to the chase” she comments, noting how quickly the staff moved on to someone else. Imagine if they were as persistent as actual zombies must be. In reality this was a horrifying prospect to Tzuyu. Even when Halloween was fun, it was actually scary as well.

She takes a minute in the small space to completely relax before she steps out. She offers one hand to Yein, holding it out to be held. “I think after all that running, we can have some food to replenish our energy.” she says.

with @rkchoutzuyu
ryujin is in her final year of highschool and for how much excitement that brings with it, it also makes her feel a tad bit lonely. she’s realized that the majority of her friends were upperclassmen, people that already graduated and left her behind. not in behavior, because they’re as friendly and nice as ever when she hangs out with them after school or on weekends, but in spirit. she’s found it hard to make friends, close friends, with people in her class mostly because they already have established friendships and she feels like an imposter if it were to intervene between them.
so she spends her days either studying on her own or having lukewarm conversations with a classmate or another. which is why ryujin is so glad to be spending today with tzuyu. she knows the girl has been a little bit down lately due to her participation in the mgas, which didn’t end up that well if ryujin assessed the situation right. she’s not sure though but she’s not about to ask tzuyu that and end up sprinkling salt on the wound, no way jose.
instead ryujin is going to make sure to make this a fun day to cheer up her friend. she’s not the best cook nor baker but she’s willing to try her hardest and that has to warrant for something right? “do we need anything else or are we good to go?” she asks tzuyu, a bright smile tugging at her lips.

Tzuyu hadn’t been a great friend. After graduation she focused on herself and tried to reach her dream-which have proved to be harder than she had thought. Tzuyu underestimated the difficulty of adult life. Plus, things eventually keep piling on. She didn’t think about it as much as of late, having thrown herself into studies once again. Her mind was filled with plenty to distract her. That was probably the largest contributor to her having gotten through her funk.

Having Ryujin over also gave her some sense of normalcy. She was hanging out with a friend when other friends were too busy for her these days. Not to say that the other girl was a backup, but they’d finally had time to spend some time together. Tzuyu looks at her table and does a mental checklist. Flour? Check. Sugar? Check. Eggs, butter, salt? Check, check, check. Cinnamon and vanilla extract. Check AND check! All there. She was ready to begin. “This is all of it. This is not something I do very often so please forgive me as I try to keep my thoughts in order.” she answers Ryujin, thinking about the smell of cinnamon rolls that will hit her nose soon.

She couldn’t wait.

Tzuyu grabs a bowl and pours flour and cinnamon. “Start by mixing this together.” she says handing the other girl a bowl. The next step she’d get ready for the girl. She starts breaking eggs into another bowl and adding some of the other “wet” ingredients. “So, how’s school ? Almost done, right?” she asks, trying to keep conversation with the other girl as they baked.

make me feel meh ;

the prizes won at the end of the night were randomised, much to chungha’s dismay. spinning a wheel meant that there was a high chance she would get something like candy when she was hoping for something’s cooler. she knows it’s to avoid everyone getting the same kind of prizes first. so that the inventory of a certain prize doesn’t run out. chungha logically knew this but that doesn’t stop her from being annoyed by it.

what’s worse is that she isn’t allowed to spin more than once despite the fact that she has more than one life band. it wasn’t negotiable. she tried to explain that it wasn’t because she wanted more than one prize. just so that she can spin just in case she gets something she can’t do anything with. they don’t relent. once chungha gets up to spin she has to hand over her bands then take a whirl. it’s stupid. when she gets her prize she huffs in dismay. nonetheless she thanks the staff member in charge and hops down to let the next person go ahead.

“what a waste….i don’t want this,” she says out loud, looking down at the tickets in her hand. she’d probably lose them before they were usable. was there really no away around this? she would rather a “prize” she can do something with.

Avatar
rkchoutzuyu

Everyone must have looked at the list of possibly prizes and mentally chosen something they would rather get. Tzuyu had. When she saw how the prizes would be chosen, she was disappointed but tried not to show it. It would be fun! She’d been doing nothing but sulk since the MGAs. it was long enough that she needed to start enjoying things again. Maybe spinning the wheel will be entertaining. It’ll be an experience itself and worth more than any prize! Of course, she was lying to herself if she said she wasn’t eyeing the concert tickets. It was mostly because she was wondering what they could possibly be for. And secretly hoping it was for convex.

After quietly watching others spin the wheel, she finally decides to go up and use her life bands for her ONE spin. Working at the gym really helped her in some situations, but not this one. She didn’t even realize how much force she’d put behind the spin until the wheel spun too fast and wouldn’t stop. She wasn’t allowed to stop it manually so instead she just watched it go. Until it finally stopped. She looked at the prize and tried to be excited about it. Discounts to an amusement park should be exciting. Except all of her friends seemed to be busy these days. If she was truthful, there was only one person she wanted to go to an amusement park with: Sakura. and they had’t talked in person for a while. Being a new trainee seemed like too much work.

Tzuyu thought back to the last time she went to an amusement park with Sakura and she was very glad that her face had heavy makeup and it was impossible for anyone to see her blush.

She holds the discount coupons and starts walking away, wondering what to do next since she didn’t have plans beyond zombie night. As she walks by different people she catches a glimpse of a familiar face. Tzuyu couldn’t decipher the look on the girl’s face and she didn’t quite remember her name, but she knew they knew each other. Awkwardly, she leans over to get a look at the girl in the angel costume and also put herself in the other’s view. Her costume mostly consisted of her face being hidden (as much as possible) so that the “bottom” face of mimikyu looked like the real one. It also made it very hard for others to see her, thus the awkward position. “Hi” she says, greeting the other like an old friend, “what prize did you get?”

running up that hill.

yein never planned to spend her halloween running around. she hadn’t really even planned on staying at the zombie night for long. she was going to get some cute pictures in a photo booth and line her stomach with some spooky snacks in preparation for hitting the clubs for the rest of the night. she isn’t sure how she ended up running from a staff member with tzuyu ( @rkchoutzuyu ) but she’s made her bed, one way or another, and now she has to lie in it.
tzuyu is a decent runner, better than yein at least, so yein’s been holding onto her hand for most of the time they’ve been running. yein’s got on a pair of high heels, cute, black, patent things to suit her little alice in wonderland costume, but high heels nonetheless, and she’s not as steady on her feet as she was at the start of the night. if she wasn’t so stubborn, she would have given up long ago, and thrown just given the staff her last life band, but yein’s pride prevents her from doing so. ugh. it didn’t even match her costume.
“tzuyu,” she whines, quickly bringing them to a halt. yein looks around, scanning the area for a good hiding spot, eyes eventually landing on a vendor’s truck that was neatly tucked into a corner, with just enough space for a couple of people to hide in. she points it out to tzuyu. “there. come on.”
Avatar
rkchoutzuyu

In truth, she wasn’t expecting to run. She runs on a daily basis for fun and is quite good at it.She feels good about having come out on halloween. Tzuyu had been feeling lonely these days and it was nice to meet all sorts of new people. Strangely, she didn’t imagine that this would involve trying to run for her life bands with her new friends. That was suddenly the case when Yein and her found herself being chased by zombies. She knew it wasn’t zombies for real but the magic of the day was to play pretend. Tzuyu was dressed up as mimikyu and that was very fun and cute-but it was not very practical for running. She was holding on to Yein’s hand and was probably what was keeping both of them safe. However, between her costume and Yein’s heels, it was not going to be easy getting away.

While Tzuyu is very smart, she also isn’t very quick in certain situations-namely, stressful situations. It never occurred to her to hide. In fact, she thought it might make them more of a target since their chasers were actually human. Maybe they also had to act the part of zombies. When Yein pointed out a good hiding spot for them, she decided it was worth a shot. She held Yein’s hand tight and tried to run faster towards the vendor’s truck.

It wasn’t without effort but she manages to arrive by the vendors truck. “Do you think we can fit here?” she says noticing the small space. She looks over at Yein and gestures for her to go in- hoping that hiding will throw zombie staff members from their tracks.

Maybe it was an obsession and so what? Or maybeDongyoon was addicted. When he got Iri he was overwhelmed with happiness, andfor two years Iri was all he needed, then he got Puddle, thinking that wouldmake him feel less lonely, even despite having an endless amount of friends.Dongyoon used to be a social guy, a really social guy, he was good atmaking friends, good at talking to people, and when he came home to his pets hedidn’t get happier, his happiness remained the same, his pets made sure hecould get that attention, affection and love in the afternoon and night that hegod from friends and strangers during the day.
But Dongyoon isn’t exactly the guy he used to be, leavinghome, talking to anybody, he doesn’t want to, he doesn’t have the energy to doit. So now he really needs his pets, needs the love, affection and attention hegets from then, the love, affection and attention he doesn’t try to get fromanybody else. But for some reason Puddle’s and Iri’s love wasn’t enough, so hebought more pets, growing his small family, from three to five. Now havingthree dogs and a cat, and they made his day happier, they were simply the onlyones giving him reason to live.
And yet he can’t even take them for walks? He needsthem but can hardly get himself to be there for them, he’s constantly tired, getting more pets despite maybe not deserving them. So Tzuyu’s a help, a reallybig help for him.
He laughs slightly when she asks for the reason forhis name, rubs a hand behind his neck as he knows the name might sound stupid “Iactually got a new cat too, I don’t know where he is, but his name is Kit Kat,I guess Kitty Kat kinda was named after him?”, he looks around for a second, sees if he can see his cat, but it doesn’t seem to be in the living room rightnow. “And thank you for taking my dogs for walks, it’s embarrassing I can’tthem myself”
“…oh yeah, how much would you like me to pay you?”

The explanation for the name only made her more hopeful but there was no mention of her caring for the cat. She looked around and he didn’t even seem to be around. Kit Kat! That was so cute. She was excited but no kitten appeared. She focused her attention on the dogs that already knew her and the new one who seemed as excited to meet her as the Iri and puddle. Tzuyu smiles at Dongyoon and shakes her head. “It’s no trouble at all. I’m actually really happy to do it.” In a way it was like having pets without the responsibility of a pet. She could barely be responsibly for herself, let alone a pet of her own.

Somehow, this sentiment didn’t extend to walking Dongyoon’s pets. She was caught off guard by his question as they hadn’t actually discussed it before. Really, they’d known each other for a while now and she didn’t even think about it. “Hmmm” she considered. She had no idea what the rate for a dog walker was. “How’s 500 won?” She wonders slightly if it’s too much. “And…can I also play with your cat? Maybe not walk him but I can give him some love with I stop by?”

Despite her better judgement, she looks at Dongyoon carefully before asking. “Are you okay? You seem tired and a bit sad.” She didn’t want to pry but she’d known him for a few months so she wanted to check up on him. It is very important for her to do so.

the muscles on her face hurts from pressing on with the redundant smiles, sakura can’t seem to wear it off as she’s with someone that means everything to her. her best friend, a lifeblood to who she is. she grips the other girl’s hand tightly, squeezing it as they’re way past the opening. taking pictures for memories is important as she doesn’t want to forget a single moment. “we should take pictures of our bracelets and all of our adventures! is that okay with you, tzuyu-chan?” her eyes look over at tzuyu before pulling her phone out of her pocket to take a quick picture of their wrists against each other’s, showing off the tickets.
eyebrows raise in concern but sakura isn’t one to be afraid of tall heights beyond her petite size, she loves the adrenaline that flows through her veins as she’s on it and the thrill of it all. needless to say, roller coasters are stimulating. “yes! are you okay with getting on it? i want to make sure if that’s okay with you first.” she’d like to check up on her friends first before making any final decisions. “there’s no peer pressure at all. i wouldn’t want you to feel that way, tzuyu-chan.” she exchanges a glance, caressing tzuyu’s cheek with her hand. is this too much? she can’t help but contemplate but she conveys her reassurance by touches of affections.
“it’s your birthday. it’s all about you, princess.”

Tzuyu had to stop herself from leaning into the hand that caressed her cheek. A wide smile appears on her face and she nods. “Of course, I want to!” she says confidently. “Everything will be okay as long as you’re with me.” It’s a bit corny to say but she feels that way. She also says it because she feels as though she doesn’t call Sakura anything near as cute as her best friend’s nickname for her. Sakura calls her a princess and it doesn’t cease to make her blush. She loves the nickname and she wonders if ‘peaches’ is an insult in comparison.

It came from the heart, the nickname. Tzuyu couldn’t help but compare Sakura to a peach, sweet and cute and pastel, if you will. It didn’t make that much sense if she thought about it too much. If Tzuyu was a princess, should she then call Sakura her queen? The thought made her laugh out loud. “Sorry, I was thinking of something.” She said, explaining herself. Tzuyu pulls them towards the line at the rollercoaster. The decision had been made. She got more and more nervous as she heard the screams and the sound of the wheels on the tracks moving.

The line wasn’t incredibly long and before she knew it, they were taking their seats. There was no way she’d sit anywhere but next to Sakura. So, she chose her seat and saved the one next to her for her best friend. Her hand instinctively searched for Sakura’s. “I’m excited” she said

Kyungsoo glanced over, trying to study the girl’s expression. It was strange, seeing Tzuyu so unhappy. When they  first met, she was vibrant, happy and full of life. Pretty dress, perfumed hair, everything a young lady her age should be. Look at her now, and the alarming thing was, it’s only been a few months.
He’s seen this type of thing happen before and, well, never knew what to say to comfort people.
“That’s a shame because you have a beautiful voice.” Ernest compliment, it was the least he could do considering the circumstances. “I think it would make a lot of people happy if you were to sing again. You had fans, you know, from the youtube channel…” He turned his eyes back on the road ahead. “When I looked up one of your videos a few days ago, I saw some people wondering when your next upload would be.”
“That said,” he continued after a moment of pause. “What makes you happy is most important. So, Tzuyu, do whatever feels right.” Although a wise person once said we never grow from doing what makes us comfortable so Kyungsoo, following that advice, was always the type to push.

Regardless of the situation, deep down Tzuyu was still Tzuyu. The complement made her smile and it did warm her heart. Any other time she would have jumped at the chance and teased Kyungsoo. She might have said they should sing together but then she remembers who was deemed worthy of a chance between the two of them. It was her dream to sing and become an idol still but she couldn’t find the courage to do it. She offers a nod “Thank you.” She says “That means a lot. Truly.” For a few moments she stays quiet, just the sound of her breathing as she adjusts her pace.

Do whatever feels right’

“Singing makes me happy” she says before she can really stop herself. In a way, she was still struck by Kyungsoo even though things were different now. “I just …”she stops, thinking about what exactly she would say after that. Just what? ‘I love singing and dancing and performing but, I’m scared. I’m embarrassed. I’m not good enough’, she thought to herself. Another deep breath as she faces that kind of thoughts in public. Nothing was more tempting than the darkness of her room and the softness of her bed. She wouldn’t lock herself in anymore, though. Hiding didn’t help.

“I just need some time to recover” she finally finishes. It was news to her as well. Tzuyu didn’t consider coming back and attempting to get signed. She hadn’t considered abandoning her dream either. The last two months had been mostly limbo. The conversation with Kyungsoo was as revealing to him as it was to her. She speeds her pace a little big and calls over her shoulder. “How are you feeling?” shifting the focus for a moment, lest she spill all her feelings to Kyungsoo in the middle of the run.

they’re in an area that sophie now knows almost like the palm of her hand. despite living in jongno, hongdae really has become sophie’s home, and barely a day goes by without her visiting it, whether to work, do some busking or just hang out at the local bars she’s slowly but surely getting to know. she walks quickly through the streets, short legs moving fast, but thankfully the other girl can keep up.
she smiles widely when tzuyu laughs at her joke, the comedian inside her happy, and it’s good that the girl has recognized the meme, because the internet jokes make up about eighty percent of sophie’s sense of humour. “we’re here, now,” she says as they arrive at her workplace. the bar is not too big, bright lights turned on as one of her workmates cleans the floor before they open to the public. “hey, can we hang out here for a bit?” she asks her manager, drying glasses behind the bar, and when he nods affirmative, sophie turns to tzuyu with a grin. “let’s take a seat!”
she directs them to a table in one of the corners, and digs out the deck of cards out of her backpack. they’re old and a bit ratty, a few of them sticky from alcohol dropped on them during some other poker nights, but still sophie always carries them around, ready to whip out whenever the chance arises. “oh, my godmother taught me, actually,” she replies with a grin, remembering the games she played with anna and how happy she was the first time she beat her. “she’s super good at it, so i had a good teacher,” a chuckle accompanies her words as she spreads the cards over the table. “okay, so, have you played with a french deck before? do you know the cards and what they mean?”

Tzuyu takes in the different look of a bar when there aren’t people crowding it. It’s just a normal room with tables and a bar and people who are working. It’s not loud. It feels like any sit-down restaurant except somehow, it’s a bit cozier. Tzuyu follows happily and sit down across from the girl who takes out a deck from her backpack. She briefly wonders if the other expects to play cards often, but she doesn’t ask questions. “Your godmother taught you to play poker?” of all games “Why?” She still couldn’t shake the association with gambling although she knew it was just a game if someone didn’t wager. Although, that was part of the game, she thought.

Sophie continues and she looks on in awe and ready to learn. She’s attentive but thrown off by the question. Was that something she was supposed to know? “I’m not sure what you mean?” she asks, worried that she knew less than she thought. She did know what the deck was and what the cards meant but not what they were called or that they had a meaning. It was something one gets used to, rather than names in her experience. So, her response is similar to a dear in the headlights. Eyes wide, body rigid until the danger passed.

Already she probably wasn’t what Sophie was expecting, she thought. Barely any experience with anything but with an eagerness to learn. She grimaces apologetically and shrugs. “Maybe give me a brief explanation. I don’t know much about some things, I’m afraid.” Admitting you don’t know something is hard for many people. It was hard for Tzuyu. It was easier than pretending to know, however.

Avatar
The way Tzuyu avoided his question immediately had him wonder whether she didn’t hear his query, or whether she simply didn’t want to talk about it. Suspision regarding the latter has him worry, and he wonder if she is actually doing alright. Sure, she may seem fine hiding behind a smile but Taeyang, of all people, know how it’s like putting on a mask when something is off. It doesn’t mean that he want to pry however, so instead of pushing the matter he accepts that he probably won’t hear the truth about her well-being today.
“You know~ It’s the same old,” he responds without bringing up their shared past event. While Taeyang would love to chat about both their experiences at their attendance at the MGAS, he refrain from it when some sort of a gut feeling tells him not to bring it up. There is a part of him that wants to protect her, likely due to their first meeting being that precisely and that is surely something that will follow him during their entire friendship. “College, huh?” He repeats Tzuyu, maybe to buy himself more time to think, but also to show that he listens.
“That’s great, Tzuyu! What are you going to study?“ After the MGAs Taeyang is questioning a whole lot about his own choices, whether he want to continue pursuing his path to some day open up his own gym or if he should walk a different road. Luckily enough, he only has about half a year left before he’s done with his course, having only a bachelor paper left.

It wasn’t the same old, but she wouldn’t be pointing that out. There was a huge elephant in the room and they were both doing great at not addressing it. It had been a while since Taeyang had been at work. At least from what Tzuyu had been able to see. Though, she herself hadn’t been in while she hid from the world. “I’m really glad to see you. It’s been a while.” Is the only thing she comments about it. She offers a genuine smile before diverting her eyes again. It was a subtle move but Tzuyu knows that she can’t keep up the act for too long in the state she’s in.

“I’ll be studying home economics” she responds “It’s not the usual majors but I wasn’t quite sure what I should study. I want to add child development as well.” She considered culinary school as well. Tzuyu knew well that other than being an idol, she couldn’t wait to be a homemaker. Home economics, child development and culinary arts were all things that mothers naturally knew. It was something she knew she would use. Even after a huge failure like the one Tzuyu had, she couldn’t picture herself doing anything other than being an idol. There was nothing she loved more than music.

That dream was over, of course. She’d have to do the next best thing. Unfortunately, it wasn’t a paying job what she had in mind. Tzuyu would never love doing anything as a career that didn’t involve music and so, she didn’t imagine herself going to school for anything else. That had been her thought process. When she looks back at Taeyang she’s a bit more relaxed. “What are you doing now?” she asks, trying to keep them talking about him. “We should hang out soon.”

“A good hobby,” he commented. Much better than obsessing over video games or out partying until two, which some young people her age enjoyed. “Beneficial in the long run.” Kyungsoo paused there, realizing what he was sounding like as he shook his head with a smile. “Sorry, didn’t mean to sound like a grandpa. Sometimes I think Bin is right, I really did age too fast.” Perhaps that was why he often felt so out of place with this world of vibrant energies.
“I am doing fine, trying to run at a steady pace so I won’t be too out of breath to sing later.” He gesture towards the stage with his chin as they ran past the general area. “Yeah, I am hopping on there later. Going to try to go for a quick shower first so I don’t stink.” He highly doubted anyone could smell him regardless, but his sense of responsibility refused presenting himself like a slob, even when there was nobody to impress.
Actually, wrong, his parents would be watching.
“See the couple over there? My parents.” Kyungsoo pointed towards his folks, who were resting on the grass field and his dad was massaging his mom’s leg. “They wanted to hear a song, so I agreed.” Though of course, he wanted to do it too. “What about you? I would like to hear you sing again.”

She actually chuckled a bit at his comment. She remembered liking how much older he seemed. He was very mature and it inspired a feeling of safety. Plus, despite how young Tzuyu was in other ways, she could also have some grandma-like behavior. Though, surely, she was much more adventurous than Kyungsoo. “You’re definitely like an old man.” She teased. Hopefully he knew her enough to know she actually had quite a good opinion about him.

“That sounds like a good idea. Make sure you present yourself well. You never know who might be watching” she says and then points to herself. She didn’t know he was planning on busking but she was definitely going to watch. Convex had been confirmed to perform and she would never miss out on that. It would greatly improve her mood. She smiled when she looked over and saw his parents. They seemed cute and in love. Must have been nice, she tried not to think about her own love life. Then Kyungsoo brought up something worse.

Her heart drops and she remembers to keep her breathing steady. In through her nose and out through her mouth. She shakes her head lightly “I don’t really sing anymore.” It was a simple reply. She hadn’t actually sang anything since emerging from her depressive state. Her youtube channel was basically abandoned. Tzuyu had just barely found the strength to start living as normally as she used to. Sure, she loved music but she was terrified of rejection.
