So... we're heading for an era of extreme reactionary backlash.
The question is it going to be like 1980's style or 1930's style.
We shit on rainbow capitalism (as we should), but it is a good indicator of social acceptance of LGBTQ people. When brands are loud and proud about how much the support gay people('s money), it means the social conditions have moved in our favor and the potential backlash is weak.
Right now, the power is shifting back to the fascists. That's bad.

Urgent Appeal for HelpGazaChildren: Help refugees flee to Khan Younis!
Because of the looming invasion and brutal bombing throughout the most densely populated area in Gaza, Rafah, many refugees are looking to evacuate to Khan Younis!
The bombing is random and even the areas not included in the evacuation notices are bombarded. Many refugees are asking Hussam for funds to help them evacuate to Khan Younis to help keep their families safe.
The above is a screenshot of a facebook post from someone in Rafah. A tent can be as much as $700 and the transportation costs anywhere between $250-$400 per family. This cost is primarily for gas alone!!
Please donate so that people may be able to evacuate while also being able to afford basic necessities.
Even if you're unable to donate, please share this post and the fundraiser even outside of tumblr and on other platforms! This is incredibly urgent!!

being ID is hard. i want to talk about how hard it is to be ID and be on the internet.
i only really use discord, i look around on reddit but dont post and im not really part of communities. im very lucky because i have some really close friends on discord. friends who look after me.
those friends have seen me be kicked from basically every single server i join. im labelled as bad, weird, aggressive, stupid. and every single server i join is a disability server because i wanted to try and avoid this. i dont join new servers anymore.
i had a server for wheelchairs ban me and the owner said he would teach me how to talk right so members would be okay with it. a server of mostly brain damage banned me for not talking right, and one of the members would pick out small words i used because they werent all exactly correct how they wanted them. no one cares that i cant change the way i talk
in a server for brain damage, i keep asking people to stop venting about how bad it is that people mistake them for ID. i try and say that yes its rude that people assume your needs. yes its rude that people dont listen. but please stop acting like being ID is a bad thing
i asked a person that once, and they got mad at me, said they werent offending me and it was fine, and even spoke about how they were gifted. i dont remember all the words and conversations for my examples but all of it made me feel horrible
sometimes i think im having a good conversation with someone. then i find out they told the mods i was bad and uncomfortable so im banned now. and i never know until that happens. i dont know why it happens

no matter what im never welcome. all because im different. because im a type of disabled they dont understand and can never understand. because i get upset about things they dont understand and i get confused about things they dont understand and so much more
im lucky that i have friends now but for most of my life i never had any friends. when i did they werent real friends, it was people who felt bad for me or just wanted to make light conversation, no real friends!
please try and be nice to people who are different to you. try and be friends. try and let us in your spaces. i know im difficult for you but i have to be me every single day.
In writing, epithets ("the taller man"/"the blonde"/etc) are inherently dehumanizing, in that they remove a character's name and identity, and instead focus on this other quality.
Which can be an extremely effective device within narration!
- They can work very well for characters whose names the narrator doesn't know yet (especially to differentiate between two or more). How specific the epithet is can signal to the reader how important the character is going to be later on, and whether they should dedicate bandwidth to remembering them for later ("the bearded man" is much less likely to show up again than "the man with the angel tattoo")
- They can indicate when characters stop being as an individual and instead embody their Role, like a detective choosing to think of their lover simply as The Thief when arresting them, or a royal character being referred to as The Queen when she's acting on behalf of the state
- They can reveal the narrator's biases by repeatedly drawing attention to a particular quality that singles them out in the narrator's mind
But these only work if the epithet used is how the narrator primarily identifies that character. Which is why it's so jarring to see a lot of common epithets in intimate moments-- because it conveys that the main character is primarily thinking of their lover/best friend/etc in terms of their height or age or hair color.

The news keeps saying that “aid in Gaza is running dangerously” low, but with Israel seizing the Rafah-Egypt crossing there is literally nothing. That was the lifeline of Gaza. Now that Israel is encroaching on Rafah full force there’s nowhere for aid to go & people are dying a slow painful death

This comes in tandem with Rafah closing its main maternity ward—because the IOF keeps intentionally firing in its vicinity—and Israeli settlers burning the perimeters of the UNRWA headquarters in Jerusalem. This has forced them to close.
Things in the West Bank are no better. The IOF tear-gassed and fired at Palestinians on a raid in Qalqiliya, which resulted in the hospitalization of a 15 year old. How can you look at all this and just be okay with dismissing it as “they’re just terrorists” is the 15 year old Hamas too. Are the pregnant women with no place to go a threat to the great state of Israel

As a Jewish historian, I fucking hate Israel in ways most probably will never be able to comprehend. I'm going to try and explain it anyways. The central creation myth of Israel is that it is Jewish, and then consequently, that Israel is a part of Jewishness. Its easy to simply state this is false, but fully comprehending this and putting it into practice in thought and deed seems rare to me.
The evil at the heart of this violence predates the recent acceleration of genocide. Israel is a colony, and more than that, an antisemitic fraud itself. After WW2, when Israel was being founded, the Jews of Europe generally did not wave goodbye to their neighbors and head to the promised land. Many were expelled from their homes. Zionism itself, as an action, was a false choice at the time. A mere excuse to place an ally in the middle east, and an excuse to complete the expulsion and destruction of the European Jew. The Zionist Jew is more than complicit in this, they actively seek the destruction and assimilation of all other Jews.
Many fail to realize, and largely because of Israel, that Jews are not inherently white, Ashkenazi, European-descended people. Our faith and culture has an immense variety that is spread all across the globe. Jewishness, in population and volume of culture, exists more so outside of Israel than within it. Israel is for a very specific kind of Jew. The kind that lets Yiddish die, that attaches themselves to European things, that makes themselves and their practices as white as possible.
And they have the nerve, the fucking belligerent GALL, to frame themselves as the necessary saviors of our people. To the Zionist, questioning Israel is to question Jewishness itself. They bake adoration for the colonial machine into their very prayers, and push them on us even as children. To *not* oppress, to *not* kill, to *not* genocide, is to invite death. This is the core of fascistic thought, of course. "Kill them before they kill us." And they KNOW this too, they really do. The truth of that irony does not matter, because as is true for all fascists, the truth itself does not matter to them. They wanted this, they wanted this even before the British saw it in their best interest to give them the land. Any excuse to RETVRN, as the neo-nazis say of Rome, or the German Empire, or whatever the fuck stupid country they want to poorly animate the corpse of.
