Comics To Buy Instead of Fence

Well, the person behind the horribly racist, homophobic, and all around disgusting Captive Prince series is writing a comic, which is being illustrated by Johanna the Mad, an artist who is known for racist, pedophilic content. They talk about inserting the “female gaze” into a sports comic about 16 year old boys… Basically, it’s a shitshow of creepy content creators with a history of fetishizing mlm creating a comic about “queer” 16 year old boys. Understandably, people are deeply upset about this and do not want to support it! So, if, you know, you have morals and want to buy comics starring LGBT characters that are created by people who aren’t appalling, here are a few options for you!

Powered by the GirlPower! vibe of the live drawing panel and a bottle of Coke, I goofily showed gingerhaze some of my Lumberjanes doodles from my plane ride home after CTN. She was extremely kind and my cynical heart grew 3 sizes when she took a picture of the sketch I had of the above drawing to, potentially, send to Brooke Allen - fabulous illustrator of the comic itself. Whether she did or not, who knows, but it was swell! 

It inspired me to come home and color the darn thing, so there ya go. I was actually drawing ALL of my favorite couples doing a jig on that ride home, so mayhaps I’ll color the rest.

April and Molly are Team Valor.

Jo and Jen are Team Mystic.

Ripley and Mal are Team Instinct.

  • They’re stuck in the middle of nowhere so it’s a slow progress
  • there’s only one gym, but plenty of pokéstops, all very weird
  • the ‘face in a tree’, ‘stone table with runes’ and ‘forest graveyard’ for example
  • that last one is off limits after the incident everyone refers to as the Ghost-busters Reboot
  • ‘Amelia Earlheart statute’ pokéstop is to be avoided also
  • just don’t go there
  • no matter how tempting this 300cp Butterfree is
  • Ripley caught over 80 pidgeys but only evolved one to a pidgeot
  • says evolving is boring and she likes them small and cute
  • She has a 519cp Venomoth though
  • no one knows how or where she got it since she definitely didn’t evolve it
  • Ripley started an egg- walking service
  • she’d walk around with other people’s phones, hatching their eggs
  • for a price of course
  • 2km is worth a lollypop, 5km cost you 5 marshmallows at the next campfire
  • 10km is a chocolate bar, but please don’t make her walk those
  • A Ripley high on chocolate is not something you want
  • April is everything Valor stands for
  • competitive, all about battling and a bit on the crazy side
  • her 812 cp Flareon ‘Flame’ is her pride and joy
  • she spends a lot of her free time by the river
  • she has 270 Magicarp candy
  • everyone fears the day she has enough to evolve a Garyados
  • april and jo are the ones that are always fighting over the gym
  • she refused to talk to jo for a day after she defeated her Flame with a 700cp Warwortle
  • Jo is completely focused on evolving and finding all 150
  • her pokédex is amazing
  • the janes lost her for a day, but she just got sidetracked looking for an Abra
  • She goes on long hikes with Barney(team instinct)
  • Jo is the type that walks into trees while staring at her phone
  • Barney is even worse
  • They keep each other out of danger this way
  • well..most of the times
  • Jen is a force to be reckoned with
  • everyone thought they had to teach her how to play
  • turns out Jen is a huge geek that had been playing pokémon since the rest was still in their diapers
  • she has the whole ‘I was playing it before it was cool’ vibe going on
  • She’d drop everything for a Jigglypuff
  • the Voltorb story is legendary (but don’t talk about it when Jen’s there)
  • this Voltorb kept running away from her
  • she claimed the game was bugged
  • no way it was able to run away from her for the fIFTh time
  • she caught it after four days of chasing
  • the roanokes found her in her jammies doing a victory dance on a dining table at 5 am
  • Mal and Molly…where to start
  • they started on the same day and kept sneaking off together
  • “to find pokémon”
  • yeah sure
  • the day they reached level 5 was the worst
  • like Romeo and Juliet levels of tragic
  • they wanted to pick the same team, but Molly was on an overnight hike
  • and Mal was stuck in medical(bee sting and bruised ego, long story)
  • So now they claim to be team harmony
  • Their relationship is stronger than a game anyway,
  • so now they just compliment each other while battling All. The. Time.
  • ‘Mal your Goldeen is so strong! You could defeat anyone.’
  • ‘Stop it, there’s no way I could defeat you, you and your Sandslash are amazing.’
  • ‘No, you’re amazing.
  • ‘No you are!’
  • *insert smitten looks here*
  • Battling is more flirting than actual battling with those two
  • Barney is the one keeping up the Instinct reputation
  • defeating and claiming the gym all by themselves
  • (Ripley was busy catching rattata and Mal was..distracted)
  • Barney has a 800cp Lapras from their time by the Scouting Lads
  • It’s name is Jeffrey (Marsh) btw
  • And it was just in the gym one day
  • Valor and Mystic were fighting again and then out of nowhere
  • this amazing 800cp Lapras from Instinct
  • Everyone was freaking out and trying to find out who xBurn-y123x was
  • April was just livid, since someone took down her Gengar
  • “Jo I swear if this is you on the extra phone your dads gave you-”
  • Rosie had to calm them all down
  • “It’s just a game kids, no need for murder”
  • no one listened so then she confiscated all their phones for a day
  • claiming that they should enjoy nature for a while
  • “no need getting into fights over a stupid game”
  • but jo used said extra phone to open the app that night
  • Barney had lost his place in the gym, she saw
  • the new Valor leader had left a 834cp Machoke
  • Huh.. ‘LumberRxsix23’
  • She didn’t know that one.
