Holy moly, the eight generation of Loudclan was… it was something all right.

(I know this looks like a disaster, don’t worry I’ll explain.)

For context, Loudclan is a dynasty challenge meaning the leadership position must pass from relative to relative. Scorchstar inherited the leadership from his mother, Birchstar, the leader before him. (If you’re interested in past generations go check out my profile there’s a post for each of them as well as some extra doodles)

So: Scorchstar becomes leader at 63 moons old. His mates Mountaintuft and Shinedawn soon had their first litter of Goldkit, Fogkit, Sapkit, and Lightningkit, followed quickly by Scorchstar and Mountaintuft’s only litter of Shadowkit, Wormkit, and Stormkit. With heirs to spare, they decided that there was no reason for Mountaintuft to have another litter, as she had struggled with the last one. That was, at least, until the worst happened.

ALL OF SCORCHSTAR’S BIOLOGICAL KITS DIED WITHOUT HAVING ANY KITS OF THEIR OWN.

Now come on, you might be thinking, that’s not a big deal, he still has his adopted kits, and you would be somewhat right, except for the fact that the precedent upon the ending of a bloodline has always been to trace back to the eldest living descendant of the 1st cat to hold that position, which in this case would be Whiskerbillow, the grandson of Birchstar and nephew to Scorchstar. But wait, Shinedawn is also descended from a leader, and since his kits are the adopted children of the current leader, that means that they get are preferred when if comes to inheritance. So there it is, since Goldjump has inherited the position of Healer from her mother, Fogfur, the only remaining kit, will be the deputy and heir…

BUT WAIT— NOW HE’S DEAD TOO!

That’s fine, though, he has an heir, in fact, he has two! Owlpaw, who is 8 moons old, and Mottlekit, who hasn’t even been born at the time of his death. Hmm, well that’s gonna be a problem. Only an adult cat who has earned their warrior name can serve as deputy and heir, no matter what their mother Eagledart tries to argue about her lineage validating their claim. Perhaps there’s an older cat in the clan we can turn to who looks suspiciously like the late deputy…

Well would you look at that, how lucky it is that Lightstorm just so happens to confirm that her son Highshade’s father is in fact Fogfur, the former deputy, right when Scorchstar is looking for an heir? What a coincidence! Let’s just all, as a group, forget that he had definitely already had a kit with Eagledart at that point, I’m sure that she’s forgotten, and definitely will not suffer a minor mental break resulting in her coupling up with Whiskerbillow, the true, blood heir. That’s good though, right? Now the matter can be settled, Highshade’s mate Dogfur is expecting a litter that can serve as heirs, and all is well so long as Scorchstar (159 moons old and not doing well) dies before Owlpaw grows up.

…I SAID, SO LONG AS SCORCHSTAR DIES BEFORE OWLPAW GROWS— up...

No, no, that’s fine, cause now Shimmereye is 12 moons old too, which means that he can serve as deputy, and if Scorchstar has lived this long then he might as well stick around for— oh...

…Scorchstar died of old age at 163 moons old. Shimmereye, the youngest son of Shinedawn, Mountaintuft, and Scorchstar became the 10th leader of Loudclan at only 13 moons old. He appointed Owlspeck, only 14 moons old, as his deputy and heir, momentarily satiating Eagledart, but leaving Highshade and his family with nothing…

That is, at least, until 21 moons later, when he happened to fall for a certain young medicine cat, who just so happens to be the daughter of Lightstorm and her mate Seedshock, who has an even better pedigree than Eagledart… But of course Lightstorm wouldn’t encourage her daughter to become mates with the leader and have kits as soon as possible just because she felt her older son had been slighted… right? She and Eagledart have moved on since Shimmerstar inherited, it’s not like they both took mates and had kits with cats higher up in the line of succession, who might inherit if something were to happen to Shimmerstar, Owlspeck, and their families…

So… That was the 8th generation. We’re at 713 moons, and Shimmerstar and Snailtooth named their son Mothkit after Scorchstar, whose warrior name was Scorchmoth.

Cinderheart's plot would have been more interesting if she was not a reincarnation of Cinderpelt but instead just felt the weight and expectations that come from looking like and being named after such a strong and beloved cat.

I like the idea of her both looking up to Cinderpelt and the stories she has heard about her, while also growing to hate the feeling that she is expected to be just like / live a better life for her aunt.
