this is a way better model... you'll still get transphobic & intersexist drs of course but i prefer this to male / female or even having separate questions for gender & sex.

[we can't see the full form, but i'd suggest having a "something else" option and dominant hormone question too.]

as a cis woman who's had a hysterectomy and partial oophorectomy, this would be helpful for me, too! it'd be pointless to try to diagnose me for disorders that affect organs I don't have anymore, after all.

being inclusive helps us ALL. 💖

Yes, exactly this. My OBGYN was forced to give someone a pregnancy test because she was AFAB, despite the fact that she was 70 and hasn't had a uterus for 30 years.

UPDATE THE MEDICAL SYSTEM

It's not just that this would 'work better', all studies of whether using "AGAB" as a predictor in medical contexts have indicated it results in worse outcomes because the categories are far too broad and overlapping on every conceivable axis that you might as well roll dice to make your assumptions about human bodies

Why Aren’t There Weebs in Star Trek Canon?

Where are the weebs? Not the ones in every main cast of every show and movie; I know there are neurodivergents galore in Star Fleet.

Where are the humans who take their interest in alien cultures way too far? Like, there are no humans culturally appropriating Klingon rituals? Where are the Vulcan weebs? There are Star Trek alien culture weebs NOW, in real life. Where are they in the canon?

I can’t stop thinking about this. Like, why doesn’t Worf have a story about how most of the kids avoided him, but there was this one who was way, way too excited about knowing a real life Klingon? Like, in an off-putting way. And now he’s some guy who keeps trying to go to Qo’noS to learn about Kahless from the source and keeps getting sent back by more and more hostile Klingon ships and taken back to Earth by more and more exasperated Star Fleet vessels.

Or where are the Vulcan day cares where they corral the humans who keep showing up and trying to act like them? Like, it’s cute, and they don’t want to discourage us from trying to be more logical, but we’re disruptive and it’s best to limit our sphere of influence, until we get bored and go home to our chaos planet.

Hell, where are the humans who ran off to join the Orions? You’re telling me no humans run off to be space pirates? To dress in cool outfits and kick ass and greet each other with a thrown knife? Like, I know Earth is a utopia and everything, but come on! A lot of humans still have to want Star Fleet excitement without Star Fleet rules. We don’t evolve that fast. Where are all the weirdos, the ones who don’t channel it into something healthy, like Star Fleet, or even outpost science?

And don’t tell me they get killed by whomever they run off to join. That would not stop us. That has not stopped us yet and I do not see it changing in only a few hundred years.

Like. Seriously. Where are the weebs?

Can everyone who reads this PLEASE reblog it?!?!?  Libraries literally saved my life as a child!

Being abused at home, bullied at school and lost in the world, the library and all the books I could escape to the most amazing worlds, kept me alive!

I would walk to the library, and spend all day, from 10 am to 9 pm reading there!! I got special awards for how many books I read, I wrote little blurbs on why i loved the books (probably why I love to BETA and do ARCs)

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE Just hit the green arrows and the reblog!!!

As a 50 year old woman, the library offers me so much. Digital art pads to borrow, 3D printing, book clubs that are face to face (yeah, the introvert likes face to face because a moderator will stomp on anyone getting snarky)

New books in LARGE PRINT! I’m visually challenged and as much as I love my kindle, The feel of a real book in my hands will always be a beloved feeling!

Our library also has quarterly books sales of almost free books!! For 5$USD we get in a day early and can buy as many as we want. Anyone else has to wait and there is a limit for the first 2 days.

Also many, many libraries have inter library loan(it may be called something different). This means if they don’t have the item you want, they can get it for you. This may include photocopy/pdf of articles. This can also include along with books and DVDs, microfilm/fiche which is also a huge resource. Check around for libraries that are listed as depositories if you want to look at government documents.

Remember that many colleges and universities have open stacks for the public. You will likely have to pay a membership fee but you will get to stuff.

The library was one of my favorite places to go as a kid and I still live to go and just. Sit and read. Or do homework. The university I’m at has a massive 8-story one I love to just wonder around in~ Great places

Libraries are amazing places, we need to protect them to ensure their continued existence.

I used to wander about the fiction section in my local library, and choose books with the most interesting titles - I discovered two amazing authors that way

If you feel disconnected from your local community & want to find ways to get involved, seriously consider spending some time at the library. Go to some events! Organize a reading group!

Support your libraries!

Read banned books!

People who don’t learn can be more easily controlled and told what to think!

Alien: You shouldn’t eat that.

Human: What?

Alien: That thing. Don’t you know it’s extremely acidic? Enough to cause eventual deterioration of your flesh?

Human: ….it’s a fucking pineapple.

Avatar

Alien: But that thing contains bromelain, it’ll destroy your body’s proteins!

Human: Not if I digest the bromelain first.

Alien: Humans are insane!

“Not if I digest it first” is an official human motto, in close competition with “not if I pet it first”.

A Cowtown Puppet Show Saved My Life

TW: Grief, Suicidal Ideation, Death

I needed to take a minute and say something about pop culture in general and MST3K and Stardew Valley specifically.

Culture matters. Whatever you want to call it: entertainment, pop culture, escapism, storytelling, literature, music, doesn't matter. The art we create and share does matter. Like, save-a-life MATTERS. Let me tell you a story.

i really love it when people here are “not normal” about the things they love. yes!! break down the scene that you’ve been obsessing over for weeks! create incredibly intricate theories based on a few throwaway lines! explain why you love this character so much—458 reasons and counting, and with visual aids! i love to see people putting their heart and soul into not being normal!!!
