Kalex related, but only..

at the very end..

Ok..today I want to talk about something completely different..hey no worries..you will get your Kalex shot at the end...but this is going to be a very very long story.

A few days ago, a friend of mine asked me why is it, that you want Kara and Alex together so much..why is it, that many lesbians want to have the female heroes have a lesbian relationship all the time? So, I did tell him what I will tell you now.

I will use many references to the TV Documentary “The Celluloid Closet”..haven’t watched it? Go on, you miss something very interesting. Also, again if you find some grammatical errors, you can keep them. *lol* sorry, english isn’t my natural language, I am German.

OK, let’s start. Since TV History started in the late 1851 - yes that is true, look at Wikipedia, there were also movies about homosexuals. We even have a clip of the Edison experimental film from 1895 were two man dance together.

At that time homosexuality was used for something to make fun of as we can see here in these pics.

as we see gay man were extremly feminine and looked almost ridiculous. This went on and got - in my eyes - more horrible with the first Sissy’s coming up in the movies as we can see here.

So what is a Sissy? Let’s take a look at Wikipedia for it:

Sissy (derived from sister; also sissy baby, sissy boy, sissy man, sissy pants, etc.) is a pejorative term for a boy or man who does not conform to "standard male" gender stereotypes. Generally, sissy implies a lack of courage, strength, athleticism, coordination, testosterone, male libido, and stoic calm, all of which have traditionally been associated with masculinity and considered important to the male role in Western society. A man might also be considered a sissy for being interested in traditionally feminine hobbies or employment (e.g., being fond of fashion), displaying effeminate behavior (e.g. using hair products or displaying limp wrists), being unathletic, or being homosexual

Sissy is, approximately, the male converse of tomboy (a girl with masculine traits or interests), but carries more strongly negative connotations. Research published in 2015 suggests that the terms are asymmetrical in their power to stigmatize: sissy is almost always pejorative and conveys greater severity, while tomboy rarely causes as much concern but also elicits pressure to conform to normative gender roles. Applied to an individual, these terms become a form of social control, enforcing normative gender roles and often drawing on the unfounded link of gender nonconformity with homosexuality.

These Sissy movies came up between 1932 and 1935. So far there were only Gay man in them. Only a few scenes with lesbians could be seen. Except for one movie that came up 1930 called “Morocco” with the wonderful Marlene Dietrich. In this movie we did see something very unusual and almost scandalous at that time. A Woman in men’s clothes. Marlene was wearing a Tuxedo in this movie, and smoking and kissing another woman.

But so far even in all those movies the homosexuals didn’t had a real relationship. It was all for fun. Even Marlene Dietrich (who was a lesbian as many do believe) had an relationship with a man in “Morocco”. Homosexuality was still a taboo in the society. It was fun talking about it and making fun about it, but god forbid that these “creatures” or “monsters” would have a relationship and show this in public. In 1933 the movie “Queen Christina” came to the movie Theaters. The goddess Greta Garbo (I really love this woman) was playing Queen Christina, who kisses her best childhood friend “Ebba” a woman. An uproar was in the newspapers about it.

It was a short kiss, such a “good morning” kiss. But even that was too much for the audience. Also in this movie Greta Garbo played the Queen as a tomboy, who refuses to wear skirts. Useless to say that she did fall in love with a man and wanted to run away with him.

All these movies made the Woman society running wild. Mrs. Gustav Ketterer from the Federation of Woman’s club had a TV appearance in which she pleaded for better motion pictures without showing those abdominations.

But as usual, Sex sells. And the big Movie companies did nothing and tried to cannibalize the homosexuality in every way possible without showing too much. Subtle was the word! But as the Church got involved in it and saying they were against it - wow, that is something new - things changed. So the Movie Theaters had to play by the rules. These rules were:

Scripts were rewritten but homosexuality wasn’t ereased from the movies but changed. From now on Homosexuals were cold blooded Villains as we could see in “Draculas Daughter” or “Rebecca” from 1936 and 1940.

movies about lesbians who kill and prefer to kill Women. In 1948 a movie came out about men who did kill other men with a rope. So this is also the name of the movie.

of course it wasn’t said explicit that these men were gay. But everyone knew they were. But as in the military “Don’t ask, don’t tell”. As for Lesbianism in the movies. The Censors turned a blind eye on them, as long as they were behind bars. Or they were all hard as steel. This was shown in the movie “Caged” from 1950. A movie about Women in jail.

The movies were from Man to Woman. You can take a look at it, but after that return to the kitchen and do what you need to do.

We are now turning to the coloured movies. So we are in the50′s. Seeing gay was almost as horrible as being gay. So the movies turned to something like “I can help you, that people won’t notice that you are gay.” As seen in the movie “Tea and Sympathy” from 1956 were a man helps a gay man with his walk so he won’t get noticed to be gay!

many movies did follow with gay man like “Rebel without a cause” with James Dean 1955. But also, there wouldn’t be a happy ending for Gay’s. Because they don’t deserve a happy ending. So this went on and on. You get the idea. Over the time, things did change a bit. I say a bit, because now we are in the 90ties. Homosexuality is still a moral thing. Xena and Gabrielle got on the screen, and a new word came up. “Subtext”. It was something like “They are lover’s, or they aren’t”. It was completely in the mind of the audience what they wanted to do with it. And yes, in my eyes they were lovers!! When they kissed, either one was powerless, it was a dream or they were in a different body. So it was never maintext. But still the show was a big hit. And even after all those years, the magic of the subtext is still on.

But even in the 90ties it was still a taboo to show a realtionship between two woman on TV. This changed 2004 in “The L-Word”. A show about women who love women. And it was shown in love scenes that make even me blush. But also it had a bitter taste sometimes - at least in my mouth. Because those lesbians weren’t lesbians like you and me. They had really hard problems, slept with each and anyone who wasn’t on a tree by three etc...you get the idea. Sometimes I had the feeling that I am an abnormal lesbian because I didn’t and don’t know all of these problems. My lesbian friends don’t know this either. But it was a huge success. And that is all that counts. It got money on the bank from the producers and TV Stations. But this is only my personall oppinion!!! Please don’t harras me here!!! If you loved “The L-Word” and know these problems they had you have my whole support here.

So the TV Stations did scent the big money out of lesbianism. Which brings on to a new phenomena these days. The “Kill the Lesbian for shock” phenomena. We had several series in which the lesbian got first happy, and than killed. So again the message was “A lesbian doesn’t deserve to be happy”. Oh yes, this did also happen with Xena!! and also with “The L-Word”. Remember when Jenny got killed?

But things did change. The lesbian community won’t accept anymore death on their beloved characters. The best example is Lexa from the TV-Series “The 100″. Lexa and Clarke (who is bisexual) became lovers after one season. But after their first night Lexa got killed by a strain bullet. Wonder if this was a “Straight” bullet??? This death triggered an uproar in the lesbian society. The “LGBT Fans deserves better” was born. The fans did tweet like crazy to the producer J.Rothenberg about this useless death. And also Facebook did explode with messages. On the Conventions they had stickers, posters with “LGBT Fans deserve better”. The Producer did loose a huge amount of followers after this death and is now - at least that is what I think - the most hated person in the 100 Clexa fandom. And they got in the media a lot.

The LGBT society is so tired of being played tricks on them. We do deserve better. We are tired that we - in the eyes of the TV Stations - as LGBT still don’t deserve a happy ending with our favorite characters. So times are changing. Which brings me to the point why Kala and Alex need to become a couple. These two just belong together. It would make perfect sense. They know each other by heart. They trust each other. And they love each other. They are foster sisters - NO INCEST - So it would be possible to get on the big screen!! And they have chemistry. See this picture here?

They are a perfect match. They even look like lovers on this pic. And this would be a big step in a big TV series like “Supergirl”.  At least until.....no..don’t want to think about it. They would be stupid if they would kill Alex!!! The show would go down if these two aren’t together anymore. So what I would love to see is a extremly slow burn between those two. They should have to fight their feelings, because of the sister thing!! Let them show how they struggle with it, the problems that comes with it..telling Eliza about it and ugly James (well at least that would make my day to see his dumb face) and Winn. And of course to hank..all the responsibility. They are working both in the field, what would happen if someone seriously got hurt?? know what I mean....

anyway on another note. Someone told me that I should step back from the Hashtag Trending thing because than the Karolsen Fans could also do that. And at first I thought that is right, because maybe we will get more from karolsen than Kalex. But on the other hand..I am also sick and tired of all the playing around...and beating around the bushes...if we don’t make ourself heard than nothing will happen. If we don’t try it, we won’t get what we desire!! They will think all is great and wonderful, let’s stay this way and give Kara her ugly boyfriend!!

So, if you wan’t to help me, just PM me, and I will get back to you. So, this is it. I wanted you to know how the movie studios do play tricks on us since over 80!!!!! years. This has to stop!! Hope you didn’t fall asleep on my text. But I guess it was necessary!! So go on #kalex ship them like crazy and let’s make this dream come true!!

Still don't understand all the hate Legend of Korra (and more specifically Korrasami) has gotten recently.

"But it was too forced!" "There were no big hints they liked each other romantically!" "They didn't kiss so it's queerbaiting!"

You do realise the finale aired in 2014, before same-sex marriage was legal all accross the US (France had just barely made it legal the year before!), with basically no precedent for queer rep in cartoons let alone the main character, right?

I remember watching the last episode the day it aired. I had just realised I was bisexual myself at the time. Seeing two women hold hands while lovingly staring into each other's eyes was GROUNDBREAKING. The crew had to FIGHT to make it happen, and Nickelodeon's S&P STILL censored it to hell. But that was the FIRST sapphic relationship I'd seen confirmed in a cartoon, and I was certainly not the only one. I felt SEEN. I felt VALIDATED.

It was one of the big steps forward for queer representation in media. We wouldn't have what admittedly still little queer rep we have now if it hadn't happened.
