If you experienced trauma in childhood or had a rough childhood, dude listen to me. Offer yourself play. You were deprived of it.

Keep bubbles in the house, blow bubbles in the yard, blow them in your room, get a coloring book that doesn’t have to be an adult one with mandalas, watch cartoons, laugh at stupid things, dress up as a superhero for Halloween, wear a Santa hat on Christmas and big light up snowflake earrings, lay down on the floor, lay down in the grass, eat eggos for dinner sometimes. It’s not stupid. You’re not childish. You’re giving your inner child what they had taken from them. They deserve it.

I don't want to derail this post because it's an important message, and OP has addressed it to the people who most need to hear it. But... can i just add, for people who don't feel like they can give themselves permission to do this, that you can give yourself these things even if you didn't overtly experience trauma in childhood?

Even if you never thought of your upbringing as painful or malicious, you can and should still give yourself things you missed out on. Take that class! Learn that skill! Eat the foods you like, or branch out into new ones! Jump in piles of leaves and decorate your walls the way you want them.

Give yourself the things you couldnt have as a kid, especially if you didn't really get to have a childhood, but even if you didn't have the childhood you wanted. Go for a bike ride with friends. Go stargazing. Whatever it was that you feel like you missed, it's important to seek those things and remember that play and joy aren't exclusive to childhood.

I don’t think you derailed this at all and think this was a really thoughtful addition. So thank you!

Im in fucking tears rn

Even if you had the best childhood ever and you still like doing those things, do them. There are no rules, so why not enjoy yourself

To the moderates that say "I'm sure Trump supporters would love to say Biden supporters are rude" or "Why don't you try hearing the other side out" or even "Why don't you try to have a reasonable argument with the other side."

Obviously my username doesn't give it away.

I'm a metalhead.

If there's one thing you should know about the alternative community is we don't like fascists. We haven't since the skinheads in WW2. We do not treat them kindly.

  • Under Trump's regime Hispanics in ICE camps have been given hysterectomies against their will while white women can't get one for their health.
  • Trump encourages violence against black people and other people if color
  • Trump brags about assaulting women and seeing children naked
  • Trump has the support of white supremacy groups
  • Trump has the support of the Taliban
  • Trump banned trans people from the military
  • Trump mocks disabled people
  • Trump banned trans people from the military
  • Trump joked about not holding an election several times
  • Trump refused a peaceful transfer of power several times
  • Trump suggested going over his 2 term limit several times
  • Trump suggested we sacrifice our sick and elderly for the economy several times
  • We have 215k+ dead from the pandemic that he could have prevented and prepared for (which he denied even exists several times)

Trump is a fucking fascist.

If you support him, we know which side you would be on in Nazi Germany.

And you are NOT fucking welcome here. I will not do anything to make you feel welcome here. I will not have a calm discussion with you. I'll call you what you fucking are. A fuckface fascist.

You're on the wrong side of history, and I'll not join you by being silent.

Fuckface.

Friendly reminder that even if Biden wins tomorrow, the fight is long from over.

Black lives still matter.

Capitalism still kills.

The earth is still on fire.

LGBTQ+ rights are still at stake.

Islamphobia and Antisemitism still exist.

We cannot stop fighting just because Biden wins. We need to go out stronger. Never stop fighting for what you believe in.

“I am apolitical.”

Nah, I mean, you very much *are* political. You just don’t realize it.

I’m so sick of all of these posts about how “no matter who wins we’re all one country. We need to call whoever wins ‘my president’ and respect them. And you can have different opinions and still be friends.”

I’m sorry (not sorry), but. No.

Because if by “disagree” you mean I have to be ok with my “friend” believing me and my friends and lots of other folks don’t deserve the same rights just because of our sex, race, national origin, sexual orientation, etc., that’s not a difference of opinion. That’s a fundamental difference of morals. That’s a human rights issue. And if you don’t believe that people matter and deserve to love, be loved, get medical treatment, decide what happens to their body, to thrive and grow, I can’t be friends with you.

If by disagree you mean we have different opinions on whether pineapple should be on pizza, who the best Harry Potter ship is, or who your favorite sailor guardian is, then I can deal. But don’t look me in the eyes and tell me that I need to get over myself and allow you to take away peoples rights and still treat that as a valid opinion.
