Loki Is Alive
Here is a compilation of my favorite reasons why our beloved trickster isn’t dead. I hope this cures some of your post-Infinity War depression!
1. Marvel said he will play a key role in defeating Thanos. I don’t think that pathetic stabbing attempt counts as a “key role.” So there is definitely more to his ‘death’ that meets the eye.
2. There was a time when in the distraction of Heimdall and Hulk, we don’t see Loki at all. No reaction shots, nothing. Are you telling me he was just standing there? No, Loki was biding his time. He was devising a plan, and it was much bigger than murder with a cheese knife.
3. Before his disappearance, he is scared. When he returns, he is all confidence and jokes. Maybe it wasn’t him returning??? (think his clones - we know he can make materialized ones from TDW)
4. He knows better than anyone how strong Thanos is, and how powerful the Infinity Stones are. He wouldn’t use a little dagger to try and stab him, now would he?
5.“I assure you, brother, the sun will shine on us again.” He sounds way too sure of this for the weakest attempt at murder anyone’s ever seen to be his plan.
6. “…undying fidelity.” I think that one speaks for itself.
7. Also on that strange word choice, “fidelity” means loyalty, but it can also mean “the degree of exactness with which something is copied or reproduced.” There are the clones that I keep bringing up. Hmmmmm…
8. He never returned to his Jotun form - after he dies, the magic keeping him looking like an Asgardian should disappear.
9. He kept alluding to the fact that he’s a frost giant not once, but twice: “I’m not Asgardian,” and “…the rightful king of Jotunheim.” This should draw attention to the fact that he doesn’t turn back.
10. Thor says he might be gone for good. Might, because Thor isn’t even positive. Poor guy’s as confused as we are.
11. The directors, writers, and Hiddleston all giving super vague answers about Loki. The only “proofs” that he’s dead are the reporters’ interpretations of what they’re saying. If you just look at what was said, it doesn’t confirm or deny anything.
12. Tom Hiddleston on Loki’s fate: “Loki is the God of Mischief, the Lord of Misrule, an Agent of Chaos. Chaos isn’t threatening to Loki, and… everything’s fine.” I’m not really sure if this proves anything because I’ve seen many different interpretations of it, but I’ll let you decide what it means.
13. The writers know that we’ve seen him fake his death twice, and if they want us to believe this one then they would have to do a lot better than disappearing off-screen for three minutes, sharing some hopeful but cryptic words with Thor, and then essentially doing, “MBLEUGH IT’S ME.”
14. I’ve seen multiple people saying that the tesseract has the ability to see into the future or something similar. In the time before he turned it over, he could have used it and seen a future in which they both lived; hence his reassurance to Thor that they would both make it out alive.
15.There’s a theory going around (which I rather like) that Loki knew Thanos wouldn’t stop chasing him until he was dead. So he faked his death and went to another powerful god-type figure with an army to get help: The Grandmaster.
And I can barely find anything proving he’s dead…
