I was today years old when I learned that when you type “otp: true” in AO3 search results it filters out fics with additional ships, leaving only the fics where your otp is the main ship

Gamechanger

Here’s a cheatsheet of all the available hidden search functions. “-creators:[whatever]” is another exclusion that can be particularly useful.

you can click on this button once daily to help palestine and support other causes in the middle east for free. it takes literally 5 seconds and could help save lives so please take the time to click and share this link.

Proceeds are donated to the UNRWA, which is one of the major funding agencies providing aid to Palestine. Recently, the US and other major countries have escalated genocidal efforts by cutting funding from the UNRWA, as AlJazzera reports : Which countries have cut funding to the UNRWA and why?

This is a direct action you can take to say fuck you to the government directed genocidal efforts, bookmark the tab, add a calendar notification daily, do what you want. Or if your prefer: Donate Directly to UNRWA

regarding the genocide song contest:

  • various past eurovision contestants are campaigning for the removal of israel and some national finalists are now choosing to boycott. olly alexander, who will rep the uk, condemned the palestinian genocide and was subsequently attacked by israeli media (in a blatant rule violation the ebu did nothing about)
  • slovenian broadcaster rtvslo is purportedly trying to negotiate the removal of israel
  • 1000 artists from host country sweden are preparing to send an open letter to the ebu to ban israel; the swedish left wing has also called for israel to be removed immediately
  • iceland is officially threatening to boycott eurovision pending the removal of israel
  • word on the street is that if iceland does compete, it will send palestinian artist bashar murad who is openly anti-israel and has collabed with previous icelandic reps hatari, aka the guys who did this back in 2019
  • iceland is now leading in the odds whereas israel has been steadily dropping, suggesting that the bookies are aware israel is becoming increasingly unpopular
  • lastly, in a move so ridiculous i'm beginning to suspect eurovision is a figment of our collective imagination, israel is seemingly gearing up to enter eden golan, a moscow-based russian singer. while russia is still banned for terrorism.

if you're european: please contact your participating broadcaster and demand for the removal of israel, or try to contact your nation's selected artist to put pressure on the broadcaster. if you're swedish, please try contacting svt or authorities with security concerns regarding the inclusion of israel. if israel does enter eden golan, complain about her selection and ties to russia. and absolutely DO NOT vote on, watch or promote this show if israel does end up competing.

Here is a document with contacts for all participating broadcasters, artists and sponsors, including a template email translated to 20+ languages

once again, to the people charging money for fanfiction: be more freaking careful before you get us all taken down?!?!?!?! you shouldn't be doing that at all because you don't have any right to make money off someone else's copyright, but making noise about it risks legal repercussions even for people who don't charge! STOP THAT.

and DEFINITELY don't be advertising it on AO3

just saw a post where someone was admonishing PAYING readers for not commenting/complimenting. you've received money to write smut about characters you didn't create and don't own, yet you have the gall to also demand what all unpaid writers live on? for an imagine???

It’s due to the age of content creators. In the time of someone getting paid through sponsors/ads from dancing in a TikTok, doing a commentary on a YouTube channel, or simply taking photos of themselves or of cats and posting on Instagram, people (especially newer fandom folks) want to get paid for simply making something.

Making money off fanfic is no-no rule number 1. A plot may be yours but the world and characters are not. Do not make money off of other people’s property. It’s entitled and greedy.

This opens the doors to lawsuits and getting sites which host fanfics shut down permanently.

Demanding someone’s money or even attention/time/whatever just because you made a thing is immature and borders on delusional. No one owes you those things especially when it already belongs to someone else.

The ghost of Anne Rice is coming for you all with cease and desists and screaming ‘I told you so’

PROFITING OFF FAN FICTION IS ILLEGAL! SELLING FANFICTION IS ILLEGAL!

Fanfiction exists in the legal area of Fair Use and Transformative works. THIS ISNT LIKE FANART where people make money on their red bubble accounts. I have watched sites hosting fan fiction get destroyed from cease and desist notices from 20th Century Fox lawyers, I have been there when Anne Rice would go after anyone personally.

I swear to god I see someone selling bound fan fiction on Etsy I’m gonna burn your house down.

STOP ATTEMPTING TO PROFIT OFF FAN FICTION IT IS ILLEGAL. It’s not entitled and greedy, IT IS ILLEGAL ILLEGAL ILLEGAL.

That 81 person can see shrimp colors

I took exactly the same image, increased the saturation, and shifted it to a part of the spectrum most people can see better.

For all your no-YOU-have-the-weird-color-vision argument-solving needs.

Also, the car is orange.

Posting this in case anyone is color blind and doesn’t know it lmao

One time this man approached me in a bar talking in Spanish. So I assumed he was Spanish and we started speaking, we had a whole ass conversation and at some point he was like. So what part of Spain are you from? And I said well I’m Italian actually. What part of Spain are you from? And he was like. I’m Greek.

ImageImage

One time I was in Argentina and I was so tired of trying to speak Spanish because I’m not very good at it lmao so I broke into exasperated English and the retail seller girl quickly understood me and engaged me in conversation. We talked for a while, she introduced me to a makeup brand, and then I decided to buy it. While she was packaging the purchase, she asked me if I were from the US or perhaps the UK and I just said “oh no I’m Brazilian hahah” and she looked me straight in the eyes and said, in clear Portuguese, “I’m Brazilian too”

When my dad went to China on a work trip, his Mandarin speaking wasn’t great but his listening was fine (his first language is Cantonese) and he encountered a German guy who had moved to China to work. My dad knew how to speak German because he studied it in university (but wasn’t great when it came to listening to new vocab he hadn’t studied before), and the German guy knew Mandarin because he lived and worked in China, so they had a conversation where my dad spoke to the German guy in German and the guy responded in Mandarin. I’m sure it confused a lot of their coworkers who just saw the Asian guy speaking German and the white guy speaking Mandarin.

Some years ago, I worked for a manufacturing company that had a service depot in China.  One of the engineers from the main office here in the US spent most of his time at the depot.  The problem was that he didn’t speak *any* of the various Chinese languages, and no one at the depot spoke any English. They all, however, spoke Spanish.

I love the world

My late uncle (English) met his ex wife (French) in Germany, where they spoke almost exclusively German to each because that was their only common language to start with.

They had two kids, both of whom are fluent in both English and French, but don’t speak a word of German between them XD
