Terribly Random? This Is Normal For Me

Warning: This blog hasn't had its shots and tends to bite if you poke it. (An eclectic collection of random thoughts and musings, things I like, many fuzzy creatures, and pieces of my writing.  I really love answering asks and prompts!) [Icon art by nerdpatrole]

I have decided to be the chaos I want to see in the world.

My fiancé and I discovered that when you’re in the Anomaly/Nexus of No Man’s Sky (aka the online multiplayer area) you can transfer items to any other player who happens to be close enough even if you aren’t partied up with them. You can also get your pets to lay eggs. So now I’m running around the Anomaly playing Easter Bunny and hiding adorable critter eggs in other people’s backpacks.

Why? Because right now someone out there is looking at their inventory and going, “Where the fuck did this egg come from?!” And that makes me happy.

I had no eggs today, so when I went into the Anomaly, I found a player who still had the starter ship and transferred ten panes of glass (a crafting item) to them. Then a totally different player slipped pulse engine fuel into my backpack!

I didn’t even see them! ‘Twas brilliant! This might be my new favorite thing to do in this game.

This is my new child, Walnut.

Walnut is 70% legs, 20% tails, 10% head and 0% arms. Their favorite thing to do is to skitter off to “scout ahead” and disappear into any knee-high foliage. Walnut also believes that the mission agent should be their friend and feed them snacks.

I disagree, but Walnut doesn’t believe in the words “no” or “down.”

Walnut does believe the power of puppy dog eyes, though.

This is Glitch, who hasn’t quite decided whether to be a dragon or a moth but is going to be damn fancy about it in the meantime.

Glitch used to be named “Luna” until they somehow accidentally turned into an entire-screen strobe effect for a good five seconds and messed up my audio so badly that I had to shutdown the game completely and reboot. (NMS is kinda janky at times but in bizarrely humorous and endearing way.) After that, the name Luna was deemed too dignified for them.

Died for the first time in No Man’s Sky today. Got eaten by a tentacle monster. And then the game quoted Lovecraft at me.

@greentrickster told me that’s what I got for wearing my Cthulhu shirt today. 🤣

And I was right! <( ̄︶ ̄)>

Aaaaaaaaand it turns out there’s a customized pithy quote for every type of death.

This time gravity got me on a planet that was basically all obnoxiously steep mountains while I was trying to get back to my ship.

Our quest to be the galaxy’s ultimate chaos power couple continues. I accidentally became the captain of a freighter while playing Amazon delivery driver for the merchants’ guild. My fiancé nearly jumpstarted his villain arc when a trade ship decided to fly between him and the asteroids he was mining.

I’m also really enjoying being the tall one for once. Ha! Who can reach the top shelf now?!

(…Both of us. We have jet packs. Everyone can reach the top shelf.)

In the continuing adventures of Psuedo-Mando and Chaos Chameleon, I keep getting distracted from what I’m doing any time there’s a Knowledge Stone within ten miles of my location and also jumped by pirates. My fiancé, on the other hand, keeps getting chased by sentinels for robbing various buildings and is very annoyed that the pirates aren’t jumping him, because they drop good loot.

I also parked my spaceship on a floating rock, jumped off it, and realized far too late that my thrusters didn’t have enough fuel to recall my ship to my current location. And the floating rock was higher than my jet pack could fly. At least I had some nice scenery to look at while I panicked.

My fiancé and I started playing No Man’s Sky together tonight. I, naturally, had to do all the loving fiancée things, like dancing on the nose of his spaceship and shooting him in the back with my mining laser to see what would happen.

He named the new planet he found “This Land.” I named our base on This Land “Your Grave.”

🦕🦖 That’s how you can tell it’s love.

“Millennials are so cringe.”

Not gonna lie, brazen cringiness is a superpower. You just hit a point where you realize that you have so few fucks left that you can’t be bothered to spend them on other people’s opinions of things that make you happy.

Being this cringy takes effort-

I would have died of embarrassment if I’d been caught dead wearing these as a teenager.

So stoked to get to explore Dathomir in Fallen Order! It’s sort of surreal, though, because my introduction to Dathomir and the Nightsisters wasn’t the Clone Wars series. It was this:

This was my favorite of the EU books as a teen largely because it focused on Han and Leia’s relationship (my very first OTP) and also because it featured a planet of matriarchal, force-wielding, badass ladies. And Han won an entire planet in a card game. (Yes, the planet in question was Dathomir.)

There are some significant differences between book Dathomir and what has since become canon. First, it wasn’t just the Nightsisters on Dathomir - there were clans of Dathomir women whose force magic tapped into the light side, who were also matriarchal. Both sides were interrelated - it was an ideological divide. Second, using the Nightsisters’ type of dark side magic caused visible, physical damage (bruising). (Over all, it was an interesting concept, but some of the writing hasn’t aged well. It was progressive for when it was published in 1994 - not so much by today’s standards.)

Honestly, I like what they’ve done with the Nightsisters since the book for the most part (I do miss the balance of not having the planet be 100% dark siders), but there is one thing that got left out that always disappoints me: In the book, rancors are native to Dathomir (that’s why there’s one on the book cover). And all those badass, force-wielding ladies? They rode rancors. They kept them as massive, lethal pets. It was the best thing ever.

I was hoping that maybe - just maybe - Fallen Order might throw in a rancor somewhere to fight. Or even just seen shambling in the distance. But no dice.

Le sad.

Merrin deserves a terrifying rancor to ride in style.

Boba's rancor master mentioned that the witches of Dathomir rode rancors. And Boba is like: I wanna do that too! :D

😲❤️🎉

This makes me unreasonably happy!
